Hi all

thought I would share a little project I have taken on. Still waiting for delivery but should be here this week.

A set of jet provost rudder pedals with toe brakes.

I plan to use a Leobodnar board and hopefully hall sensors, but will take a closer look once it arrives.

Arrived today,

Very pleased with it, seems to be in good working order and well lubed, toe brakes feel sturdy, nicer than the plastic saitek ones I am used to.

as there is no centre spring I have been playing around with ideas.

Currently the best option seems to be a simple spring system.

Waiting for some more parts before I start trying to wire it up.

Hey Bignewy, nice find! Envious I must say.

Looks like a job for a few well placed Hall sensors.

I look forward to seeing how it develops.

Very nice kit there BIGNEWY, but why do you want springs?

Good question,

I am used to having a spring in pedals, my saitek ones do. I suppose I could give it a go without a spring, and using this simple method all I have to do is unhook the spring to try it out.

Well I have done that with mt saitek combat pro's ditched the detent as well for me this feels better, although there should be some resistance for helicopter and well even more so for air planes.

But actually I thought what about the bakes that could use some spring tension just to work against their travel.

The toe brakes are on a Hydraulic already which is nice, just have to find a good way of mounting hall sensors on them.

I had a go without spring tension on the main axis, it feels strange to me, so will probably carry on using the spring for now. Will get a better feel for it once it is complete and mounted to my pit :)

I suppose the rails and the springs can be removed because are used only to adjust the distance, right?

Yes they could be removed, but was considering keeping them, maybe have the cable in the pit for show with an adjustment handle.

also the rails have four anchor points which will make it easier to fit in place

maybe shortening them will keep the functionality and not need so much space to be mounted, anyway very nice!!

If space allows I'd keep the slide arrangement, besides it makes it easy to mount.

Mkay I'd thought the brakes would be Hydraulic, but wot their cable?

Just had a measure up, they fit very nicely in my pit with the rails on, so will leave them alone.

and you are correct Hydraulic, I have edited my post above to reflect that.

The cable is for adjusting the rails only, just a simple pull to release then adjust

Are so the cylinders are going to be a problem with moisture,.. need to clean the Hydraulic fluid out of the pistons/cylinders.??

Hopefully not to often, the caps are easy to remove and access so shouldn't be a problem

When do you take delivery of the rest of the plane? It seems a shame to just have the rudder pedals, don't you agree?

I can picture my wife's reaction :megalol:

I am just waiting for my hall sensors to arrive now

so my hall sensors arrived, had a play about with one, it will work great for the toe brakes.

Worked out a way of setting up the main axis with the hall sensor, rough setup in picture

Need some advice, is it best to use neodymium magnets? or is that overkill?

The stronger magnetic field the better...go with the neodymium.

The best and most compact solution is to get a radial polarized ring magnet and screw it onto a pivot shaft. With these it is also very simple to align the poles with the sensor.

From the pictures it seems that you have actually 6 pivoting points to measure the rotation of the pedals. Plenty to choose from:)
