PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller

Recommended Posts

The Front Office...

Now that is impressive Mariner, The talent and skill sets of people on this forum never ceases to amaze me.

The fact that you were able to accomplish your work so quickly despite clenching a KA-BAR between your teeth the whole time is impressive.

I think your front panel will be the perfect test bed for PointCTRL-Contact. PointCTRL-Contact will send a left mouse click relative to the current cursor position when finger contact is made with a surface. Basically touching the flat panel to your front would replace pressing the forward button on the FCU. The FCU would still function normally, Point CTRL-Contact is just an add on to be used in conjunction with PointCTRL.

Chanting out loud

I will not be distracted until I fill the DCS Forum orders.

I will not be distracted until I fill the DCS Forum orders.

I will not be distracted until I fill the DCS Forum orders.

I will not be distracted until I fill the DCS Forum orders.

I will not be distracted until I fill the DCS Forum orders...…..

edit:

I thought I saw a clear panel in the front, but it was a cord.

Roflmfao. Yeah, I ran out of crayons at the end!

Thanks Miles! That is pretty high praise considering what you are doing!

I am really excited to get it working! I will keep a log of sorts to give you feedback on how it interacts, of course, but it is going to be the.. sorry, I can't help myself... the CATS ASS!! LOL

I'm considering doing the front dash but I have a lot of catching up to do to just fly right yet!

UPDATE: Just got the automated programmer finished so "Household Six" can reload the new firmware on the production FCUs when ready.

Testing the future proofed FCU firmware next!

So excited about this. Been keeping the cash set aside for this in anticipation! The immersion looks fantastic compared to fighting with the mouse in VR...

Quick question Miles. It looks like you are tracking the controllers from an addition on the headset....so That would make this all functional with any headset...lighthouse type or inside out tracking, correct? I ask because I may be moving away from Rift to something like the HP reverb in the future. Thanks

Yes. It should work with any headset.

Mapped a modifier to my Hotas last night for mouse clicks.

Better than grabbing the mouse every time, but still not really immersive. Can't wait for these to ship! (But take your time, "do it once, do it right" my Dad always said...)

Let me ask you if there will be a later batch?

Currently I don't have a suitable computer, nor a VR Headset but I'm in the process of sorting it out and hopefully, after the summer, will start shopping.

Would be great if I would be able to get your great device later on

Cheers

@ Lt Jaeger, I will continue to sell and improve PointCTRL until something better comes along for flight sims and there is no more interest.

UPDATE I think I have everything sorted now. In anticipation of shipping production units next week, I am going to make some short, subject specific instructional videos. The intent is to keep them short so users can easily reference required information. I am going to try and have a few posted by Sunday.

Video Subjects

1) Concept of operation

2) Mounting the HMS

3) FCU on/off and setting IRLED timeout

4) DCS windowed vs full screen mode effect on PointCTRL

5) Setting cursor boundaries and movement ratio

6) Zooming with FCU

7) Future planned functionality

Thanks,

Miles

Great news Miles!

Excellent idea about the vids as well. I prefer learning stuff through watching, so this sounds perfect!

I have had that for quite a long time and while 100 times better than messing with a mouse, it lacks that physical feeling of flipping a switch. This will be a real game changer for anyone with home cockpits! I made a full scale Tomcat pilot setup. Right now I reach for the switch or button, knob, etc and get really close to it but since I can't see my hand and where it is in relation to the VR world, I can't make it quite real. This will solve that.

I shudder to think of the money and time that Miles has sunk into this so far. I can't throw money at him fast enough. I would love to see an article on how the project came about, all the steps and path through the project, lessons learned, after action - call it what you will document/article. We don't get to see that path very often.

Miles, you are a credit to your Greeniehood!

PointCTRL Live Stream ?

Hey Mariner,

I find it interesting you mentioned this because my son said I should do a live stream to mark the launch of PointCTRL. After he explained to me how it worked, I didn't think it would be all that interesting to people, but who knows. If a few people are interested we could do a random drawing to give away a PointCTRL.

If you guys are interested let me know. If we ask FireCat nicely, he can probably make a list and figure out the best time for everyone.

I think people would be very interested. Even if people can't join the live stream, I sure would look at it after the fact.

Also, what models are available for shipping in the first batch? Just CV1? Or will the generic one be available as well? Thanks

Here is the generic one, it comes with EVA foam some ABS sheet plastic, as well as double faced tape. You can order extra mounts if you have multiple devices and just want to change out the PCB.
