LeCuvier
Problem disappeared aftzer update to 2.5.3.21235 I just updated OB to 2.5.3.21235 and flew 3 dogfight missions where I used MW50 several times ON and OFF as I had to slow down to avoid overshooting and then go to full power again to climb, and the engine did not fail. Looks like something has changed, although there is nothing in the change log. I wonder if the change log really lists all changes, as this looks like a different engine. ED Team NineLine Posted September 5, 2018 ED Team Share Posted September 5, 2018 Things can and do get fixed and not listed, but I haven't heard of any changes to the Dora. LeCuvier
I just flew some more dogfight missions against P-51D and never had any engine problem. Definitely different from what I saw before today's update. I guess changes can be unplanned :) LeCuvier Windows 10 Pro 64Bit | i7-4790 CPU |16 GB RAM|SSD System Disk|SSD Gaming Disk| MSI GTX-1080 Gaming 8 GB| Acer XB270HU | TM Warthog HOTAS | VKB Gladiator Pro | MongoosT-50 | MFG Crosswind Pedals | TrackIR
IronJockel
I just flew some more dogfight missions against P-51D and never had any engine problem. Definitely different from what I saw before today's update. I guess changes can be unplanned :) There always was a certain tolerance for MW50 use in the game. This bug report is about that you can't use it as long as stated in the manual (10 minutes straight, then 5 minutes off and on again) without the engine suddenly without warning to fail. Considering that the 10 minutes limit is a safety mark, for an aircraft in prolonged use on the front it is safe to assume that it could be exceeded if needed. I remember reading a testimony of a pilot who forgot to switch it off and flew like an hour with it on. On the ground the crew couldn't open engine cowling as it was bent all over the place by the heat. However the engine didn't fail until the landing and was replaced after the sortie. Magic Zach
Do others have similar reports? That the 190 is more tolerant/less random? DefaultFace
Is it supposed to be better or worse? Because within 3 posts LeCuvier has managed to claim both.... ? 9./JG27 "If you can't hit anything, it's because you suck. If you get shot down, it's because you suck. LeCuvier
Is it supposed to be better or worse? Because within 3 posts LeCuvier has managed to claim both.... ? I wonder if you read the "Subject" lines of my successive posts. My 1st post on 5-September is "Problem even worse in Open Beta 2.5.23.21153" and that was before the Wednesday update. My 2nd post on 5-SEP is " Problem disappeared after update to 2.5.3.21235". And my 3rd post on 5-SEP (no subject) confirms what my 2nd post states. Yes, what I found was that the engine problem got worse with 2.5.23.21153, and since Wednesday's update it got better again. I'm not saying that the problem is solved though. That would require more stringent testing and I won't invest that time unless we get a message from ED that they have done something to fix it. Esac_mirmidon
The test should be using the 10 minutes period with WEP on, the recommended cold down then again another 10 minutes period. From my experience the engine blows out always in the first minutes of the second period. " You must think in russian.." MAD-MM
Hmm NineLine could simply ask his Programmer and tell us back its fixed now or not? This would be easy or? Without testing every time hopefully after every Patch its working now without patch notes? Once you have tasted Flight, you will forever walk the Earth with your Eyes turned Skyward. LeCuvier
The test should be using the 10 minutes period with WEP on, the recommended cold down then again another 10 minutes period. From my experience the engine blows out always in the first minutes of the second period. I tested using a free flight mission around Batumi. The mission is set in January with air temperature = -5 °C. I flew 10 min with max power, then 5 min throttled back to about 2,500 RPM, then again 10 min with max power, at about 2300 m altitude. I had to end it there as my fuel tanks were almost dry (the mission started with 50% fuel). The coolant and oil temperatures never exceeded max limits. The low air temperature may have helped. I wonder how many minutes of MW50 usage the MW50 tank supports. I did not find that info in the DCS flight manual but I don't think it will last more than 20 minutes? If someone could refer me to a more comprehensive manual (the one the Luftwaffe used?). LeCuvier
Re-tested with air temperature = 20 °C. !0 min at full power, then 5 min at 2,500 RPM, then full power again. This time the engine failed after 3 min 20 sec. So I guess the problem is not solved. Seems that an air temperature difference of 25 has a big impact. IronJockel
Thats the issue. Im testing always at standard temp, +15º Well considering the manuals at least western European temperatures should not be of concern. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

saburo_cz
Could be this unpleasant bug somehow connected with fact that the DCS Dora has manifold pressure with MW 50 1,9ATA on low gear but IRL was only 1,8ATA? F-15E | F-14A/B P-51D | P-47D | Mosquito FB Mk VI |Spitfire | Fw 190D | Fw 190A | Bf 109K | WWII Assets Pack Normandy 2 | The Channel | Sinai | Syria | PG | NTTR | South Atlantic F/A-18 | F-86 | F-16C | A-10C | FC-3 | CA | SC |

MAD-MM
Did ED Consider now to fix the issue with the D9 Engine before (or with) Release of the A8? ED Team NineLine Posted May 17, 2019 ED Team Share Posted May 17, 2019 As stated elsewhere there is a new cooling system coming to all Warbirds, this should resolve these issues. ED Team NineLine Posted May 17, 2019 ED Team Share Posted May 17, 2019 Better info on the issue so it's easier to understand and maybe avoid easier. Basically, any amount of overheating is terminal, even just once for a moment, it will never recover and eventually cause engine failure. The new cooling model should rectify this.
