Then you do not have the right to save it there. This is not an Ikarus problem.

That is too little information to help you. Sorry. Maybe the download was corrupt. Try again.

What do you mean by different folder?

Everything has to be saved in the Ikarus folder.

Above you said I need to try saving the profile to a different folder, I tried a couple different folders with no joy. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem. Ikarus worked fine until I updated. I don't know what more you need.

Just downloaded it again. I opened a profile, changed something, attempted to save the profile and I get "Ikarus has stopped working".

Does this help?

I have a separate D: hard drive. I tried saving a profile there, same problem. I tried moving the entire Ikarus folder there, same problem. Ikarus does not give me any error messages that I'm aware of.

Wish I would have kept a copy of the previous version.

I figured out how to download a previous version from Github, I downloaded 1.2.1.3f and it works fine.

Very strange. You get the File Save dialog and then Ikarus freezes after you have pressed the Save button?

Last week, before the 2.2 update,my gauges on my second screen stopped functioning on all aircraft.Does anyone have any ideas as to why this would happen? Thanks.

I see here no problems with 2.2. The data exchange takes place via UDP. The DCS version is not important to me as Ikarus developer.

It can only be because our export script, that develops McMicha, is installed in the wrong place or you use a older version. Please check that for 2.2.

It will soon be easier with DCS 2.5. Then, we will only support 2.5 for future updates from Ikarus and our export script.

I changed the development environment from VisualStudio 2015 to VisualStudio 2017 during this period. That could be a cause. But please answer my question.

OK. I will now compile all new future versions with VS 2015. Thanks Deezle, that was a good cooperation.

Unbelievable, how can something like that be ... Microsoft ...

  • 2 weeks later...

Just found this (due to CaptZeen not having an F5 profile).

I must say the utter lack of English documentation and clarity of usage is really poor. I know for a fact most German's speak English, so there is no excuse.

As for my setup, after 43 mins of trying I still can't get it to show the 'virtual cockpit' on my 2nd monitor.

I have a 27" 2560x1400, top centre, and a 1920x1080 roughly in the middle underneath it. DCS only knows about the top monitor. Helios works perfectly because I can specify which monitor I want the panels to appear on.

This software has no such user friendly mechanic.

I've edited the config.xml as a guess and put in a new cockpitposx of about 800 and cockpitposy of 1441, and it still puts the cockpit in the top left of the main 27" monitor.

Very annoyed, and utterly unimpressed.

And besides, this, how do you display the sub panels like the engine or comms panels on the A10C?!

EDIT:

For those of you stuck by this, here's what I've worked out.

1. On the main Ikarus app windows there are multiple POS. X and POS. Y columns with numbers in.

2. Each one of these has to be increased to account for WHERE YOU DESIRED MONITOR exists in screen co-ordinate space i.e. if monitor 2 is off to the right of your 1920x1080, screen, you have to add 1920 to each of the X positions... How DUMB is that?! There isn't even a global 'Monitor 1 X, Y' and 'Monitor 2 X, Y' so it can repopulate all of the sub panels and gauges automatically... no, typical 'programmer UI/UX' logic... you have to do them all by hand.

3. If, like me you have a smaller touchscreen under the rough centre of your larger main screen, then playing with the X is a royal pain in the ****.

4. There is (on the A10C at least) a garish row of un-labeled toggle switches that touching each one brings up a different panel (remember you have to offset each sub panel using the steps above.)

Hope this helps the few people stuck with the German instructions and crappy UX, good luck to you, I'm going back to Helios - this is appalling.

EDIT #2

BTW: Forget the above. When you try and save the profile with the changed X and Y positions, regardless of the name you give it, or the location where you save it, or even if you run Ikarus as an Administrator, it will crash on Save, 100% of the time.

Bravo.

I understand your frustration, I gave up in October (post 323). I was hoping to switch to this for support purposes. I am still using Helios myself. I'm sure alot of people are happy with this if they have it working. I would like to have been one of those folks. I dont think you can beat up these guys to bad though,, it is after all, FREE.

I understand your thought process, but it's not an accurate representation of the software world; the fact that it's free doesn't mean it shouldn't be fit for purpose and it should be user friendly and have documentation.

Almost every other pieces of free software pay attention.

These people didn't.

Just because it's free software for a niche market doesn't mean it should be so shoddily implemented or supported. Especially this long after release.

IMO I don't agree with the comments made by Elphaba. This is freeware and while the documentation may not be up to par, I appreciate the work done by the Simpit team to give us something more than what DCS provides.

However, I do acknowledge that the documentation is a little hard to follow and it took me awhile by trial and error to get some profiles to work.

Fortunately, we live in a free society and if you don't like or understand how to work this software, then just don't use it. Negative comments are really not necessary when something is provided free of charge.

Also, I think that you tried the most difficult profile to use. Try something simpler first and then go on to a harder one.

Finally, if you think the documentation for this software is difficult, just try the HELIOS documentation and interface.

With Helios, there are several videos in English to show you what to do and how to get it to work.

Have this dev team even bothered to do that? No.

Helios is free; it hasn’t stopped others pointing out errors, bugs and problems.

I’ve simply pointed out the lousy and unconsidered user interface (created by a programmer who doesn’t get or give a crap about UX) and the appalling state of the app that if you update a profile with your new stupid window positions, it crashes 100% of the time.

Free doesn’t mean unusable.

Free doesn’t mean unintelligible.

Free doesn’t mean we have to say “thank you sir!” Just because. Free or paid, we’re their customers. And as a customer it’s my right to say they’ve screwed up (crashes) and don’t care (poor UX & no documentation).

Sure, it’s my right to say stuff it and move back to Helios, which I’ve done, but it’s my right to tell them my opinion. Not to be silenced or guilted into just being ever so grateful they bothered in the first place.
