The Hornets' Nest - F/A-18C campaign

The Hornets' Nest is a nine missions single player campaign for the F/A-18C over the Caucasus. This is a fictional campaign where you will have to conduct varied missions from A/A to A/G.

 

In just a few weeks, a group of insurgents has taken control of almost all the Georgian territory. Their claim is that oil resources should benefit to everyone.

However, this argument is considered by many countries as a pretext to take control on these resources.

 

Last week the insurgents captured the capital city and the regular government had to hide at Batumi which is the last major city that is still under the government control.

However, the insurgents are only 50 miles north of Batumi and may capture it in a day or two.

As a last resort, USA have sent the USS Stennis in the Black Sea to help the regular army protecting Batumi and to provide support to regain control on Georgia.

Only air support is planned and ground operations are let to the regular army.

 

The remaining resources of the Georgian army are small most of them have been captured by insurgents including MBTs, SAMs and aircrafts.

Insurgents have been able to use ground vehicles but air opposition is not expected yet.

 

A few important notes:

 

- The missions are balanced to be flyable with the currently limited capabilities of the Hornet (as per june 2019) so the missions may seem more easy in a few months.

- You should fly the assigned flight plan and you should follow your leader or the AWACS instructions because the missions use triggers. But you can change the payload and livrery.

- Sometimes you are leading the package, sometimes you are not.

- You are supposed to use the regular comm menu and sometimes the F10 menu.

- There is no voice-over for now.

- I hope you will have as much fun flying this campaign as I had making it. ;)

Hi Bovsam,

Looking forward to flying your campaign. I too have created missions as you can read about in the thread above; The Prelude which also links you to a CASE III Qualification mission.

just finished Mission 1.

Awesome and lots of fun/anxiety with target acquisition, AA refuel, and a trap.

 

One suggestion, the rescue helicopter is hovering on the left side of the ship right off the bow.

If you bolter, you have to nose over to avoid running right into him.

hi bovsan,

 

Well... I tried the first mission four times... On the first two, got acquainted with your style and the mission objective. On the third had to exit due to RL. On the fourth I did perfect, destroyed the HQ (not all cars, but both barracks and several adjacent tgts. Got all 4 mortars and rtb safely. Score 37 and results 0 (yep, ZERO).

 

On the fourth, after all that, the campaign said it was a failure and had no honor or whatsoever and ended.

 

I am sorry, but some trigger went bad on that...

 

I didn't like it... Sorry. Thanks for the effort anyway.

I had the same thing happen. Maybe the trigger should be NO EVENT instead of ON DESTROY? **Edit: I just tested it using NO EVENT on the triggers and it worked for me now FYI.

Hi bovsan,

 

Decided to edit my Logbook.lua and give the second mission a shot. Mission was ok and the only thing I noticed is that the name (ADDER) of TGT 2 is nowhere to be found on the map. I had to “cheat” and check F10 and look a lot for the tgt figures to “guess” where the TGT 2 was.

 

I’d recommend you give coordinates for TGT 2 or change the name.

Hey everyone,

 

A small update (1.01) to fix the reported issues is available.

 

Changelog v1.01:

- In all missions, you get some additionnal result "points" if you land on the carrier after completing one or more objectives (even partially).

- In all missions, the SH-60B should not fly in front of the carrier anymore.

- In all missions, corrected typo errors in briefing.

- In mission 1, the triggers now properly detect when objectives are completed.

- In mission 1, the location of the secondary objective is given by the AWACS when switching to the secondary objective (F10 menu).

- In mission 2, the location of the secondary objective is given in the briefing and by the AWACS when switching to the secondary objective (F10 menu).

- In mission 2, the escort only rejoin you after you complete the first objective.

- In mission 4, the triggers properly detect if the escort is shot down by the bandits.

- In mission 4, the triggers properly detect if the bandits are shot down by the escort.

- In mission 5, the target waypoints are now exactly on the targets.

Hi Bovsam,

 

I flew the fourth mission today. Nice set up again. I flew it twice and I had to do a minor change on the second.

 

 

I changed the bombs to MK83 instead of the originals. Got nothing on the first attempt. I tried it again and with a better bombing programming got better.

 

 

Also flew the 5th mission. Awesome set up.

 

 

Pretty cool to have the tgts coordinates pre-setup for us. Makes it easier to spot the right tgt. I liked the new message after landing.

 

 

Also flew mission 6. Pretty nice. The fixes you made worked out nice. All you have to do now is to add some voice overs and it will be perfect.

Thanks for this one, been flying mission 1 for a couple days trying different things.

 

Having a issue when returning to the carrier, so far 6 out of 8 times, one of the Hornets on deck is on the landing deck. First time I did not see it till the last minute and boom.

Might have to remove the bugger in the ME.

 

Any tips for getting the Wingman to engage the targets. He responds and then just follows me around. Would be nice to inflict more damage that the little I can do alone.

I will add a note on how to install this campaign. In any cases, it should be installed just like any other missions or campaigns.

 

Techross, I did not notice this issue with aircrafts stuck on deck. I will investigate and try to fix. Thanks for this information. In most missions, the wingman is supposed to be able to engage the main target if you told him to engage his targets and then rejoin. I will check if these triggers are missing in some missions and fix if needed.

Just finished the campaign!Very done!!!5 star Missions!

Almost perfectly finished them(Finish all primary and secondary object and RTB in one piece) except shot down once by SA-13 in Mission 6 .

 

 

 

Springfield 2-1 and Springfield 2-1 don't collide this time.

 

Also I adjust the time of mission 1 to make target much easier to spot.Or it's too hard to spot

 

 

 

In Mission 6,Enfield 1 are not good at destroy SA-9 and SA-13.Always leave one of them or both.

Hey,

 

Thanks for your feedbacks! I agree that it is hard to spot the tents in mission#1. I will probably add some smoke and I will check the triggers of mission 6 because they are supposed to detect when the fuel tanks and the control tower are destroyed.
