Memory Limit/Load Issues

NineLine

Recommended Posts

A few things:

1- Could somebody please post a screenshot of the default system settings? I forgot to.

2-I lowered all of the settings the readme said to, should there be any memory loss/limit (whatever it is) now? I experienced it only when doing campaigns.

Just rename your "\Saved Games\DCS" folder to "\Saved Games\DCS.old" and start DCS it will generate a completely new set of the default settings for you.

Hey Weld, I see the same thing happen and wrote a post a while ago where you can just wait out your time on the F10 map. I've found that once you can freely move about the map, you can jump into a cockpit with no delays or rendering to worry about: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=203376

:book:

Actually I got pretty good in blindly scrolling and clicking and waiting for the response instead of waiting.

That way my plane is already half way refueled on blue flag for example once it visually assembles under me :)

That's a bit brutal an unnecessary "purge everything with fire" method. The only file that needs to be removed to reset gfx and game setings is options.lua one, located where you pointed, but in Config sub-folder.

As a bonus, it's always a good habit to empty Metashaders and Fxo subfolders after game update as well. Costs nothing except longer loading times whikle playing the game the first time afterwards, but can help with other gfx issues.

No-one here has mentioned deferred shading setting and that scares me.

On three of my machines with varying specs The culprit for the stutters, long load times, random crashes and pauses is all down to the deferred shading setting.

I switch it on and the game is unplayable no matter what settings I reduce or switch off.

I switch it off and all is fine(apart from the micro-stutters that is)

^^deferred shading definitely has a huge performance impact....

the problem is, that the whole game now seems to be designed around it now...the whole lighting is completely off without it, so one is pretty much forced to have it set to on.

also i doubt that there is no memory leak....last time i was flying online, everything was fine...until the server restarted the mission....normally my game crashes anyway during that process, but this time, i "survived" the reload, but from then on, i experienced horrific frame rates, insane stutters and freezes....obviously i was running out of memory....32GB ram and a gtx1080 installed on my rig. when i quit the game and rejoined the server, everything was back to normal....

I have not seen any issues like this, was this the only time it "ran out of memory" or is this a constant for you. Are you using an SSD?

actually its been the 2nd time now,...both incidents after the latest patch....yes 500GB SSD installed.

it felt like the game had still all the objects from the mission before the reload in the cache, and additionally loaded the new mission "above" it....well it was the same mission...dont know if that was what really happened, but at least it felt like it.

In single player I have no issues at all. I have a very mid-range system, or should I say low-end?:

Dell Core i7-4790 3.6 GHz 12 GB RAM with a Geforce GTX 745 4GB Windows 10 Home 1709

I fly it 2560*1440 medium + deferred shading with no stutters and smooth workings, even when I do missions with the MOOSE framework.

It works even better on my portable, a Dell XPS 15 9550 16 GB i7-6700HQ 2.6GHz Win 10 Pro 1709 with Intel graphics 530 + Nvidia GTX 960M 8 GB, which I run 1920*1080 in High settings + deferred shading.

I find the performance on both machines in single player better than DCS 1.5

What mission, I can try and reproduce, but I have not seen anything like this personally, and I am running 16GB.

That sound like what I've reported some minutes ago. The previously loaded mission was still in memory, even screens of it poped out of nowwere.

With things being loaded to memory, and not being unloaded, this is exactly what ED is aiming at. But its not a memory leak. A leak would just continue to drain more and more memory for no good reason until you run out and it crashes.

This is exactly what happens to me when I try to record video using the mission editor recorder (see my previous posts in this thread).

That sounds like it would be a different issue, if you havent yet, create a new bug thread with all info you can include, tracks, logs, and info on what missions, etc.

I'm curious, was there simply nothing more than basic memory management implemented before, or is it just the fact the new(ish) Terrain Engine has allowed obj counts that far suppassed what the existing system could cope with?

I'm not being disparaging, especially after spending the day looking at quick wins in a caching system at work that until yesterday was "acceptable", just curious incase it's an area I need to put time into for my own personal projects.

Its just a matter of 2.5, all these new maps, new objects and then factor in things like multiplayer, it sometimes takes a large base of study to really nip these issues in the but... I can test the speed of the 109 by myself, but to see how something like this effects all these different configurations and such, you need warm bodies playing the sim.

Good news is we are getting great feedback and the team is hard at work on it. Its easier when we have such an awesome community though, everyone has helped out a ton!

I'm going to be optimistic and believe things will get better going forward in resolving the memory issues. We just need some patience and continue to give constructive feedback when we can.

I don’t know if there is a link with subject but :

Each of our massive multiplayer session, if there is a Harrier, server is going progressively down by loosing his fps step by step until 0 !! So server clock stopped !! No more information teansmitted over the netcode and this without charge of server processor or ram usage.

At this time we can see a « DCS not responding » on server and sometime splashscreen DCS World in place of game view, all clients are flying in their worlds without netcode update so all other assets are stopped ( IAs and other clients ) in the air and at the ground.

Our first solution was to kill DCS process to relaunch but same result after 20 to 30min of game.

And now, if you remove Harrier from equation, even during server seems to be down ( Harrier pilot quit session or go back to spectator), server going alive !!! Again without relaunch !! Back to a normal transmission over netcode, all assets are moving again.

We can reproduce this as we want, each time Harrier entering a session again

Hope this track can help ;)

Sorry for my english :)

if you are running 8GB, you may need to evolve with the times, and understand that as ED offers bigger more detailed environments, the demands on your system will need to evolve as well.
Thus, sad times are upon us all.

As for me, I'm flying with 1.5.6. at the moment. Works like a charm with my 1GB VRam and 8GB RAM.

Sadly, not everyone knows about this solution. Even more sadly, this version of the game is frozen and as far as I know won't receive updates to AI, damage modelling and such. Still, that's the only DCS avenue for me it seems.

They are not vulching... they are STRAFING!!! :smartass::thumbup:

Luckily that version is still available to you, but ED wants to keep pushing DCS into the future, this means specs and demands on our systems will continue to climb. I imagine they will stabilize now that 2.5 is out, and they will continue to optimize, but some machines will need to be upgraded, its just part of the world of gaming.
