tmansteve
Just got back from the best experience I have ever had. My wife bought for my birthday my 1st real flight experience. What a thrill. Flew the plane for a whole hour with instructor. Can't wait for the next one. To feel the plane in your hands was something else. The experience gained by flying in DCS, made all the difference as I had so much confidence knowing what I was doing. I recommend this to anyone who hasn't had the chance to do this yet and get up there for real. :pilotfly: Cheers Steve

panton41
I did something similar when I was in Explorer Scouts in high school in maybe 1996. I took a short hop in a Piper Tomahawk out of KLOU (Bowman Field in Louisville, Kentucky). Just after take off the instructor gave me the controls and told me to fly toward Ten Mile Island in the Ohio River, up to the George Rogers Clark Bridge then back over downtown when he took control back for approach and landing. Unfortunately, I can't get a medical certificate for the same reasons I can't join the military, so DCS and X-Plane are the closest I can get to flying the real thing. kengou
Did a similar discovery flight in a Robinson R44 recently. The experience from DCS did help me, although there really is nothing like the real thing. It was thrilling, especially trying to hover (which I did with some stability for a good 10 seconds before I started over correcting too much). For less than $300 I recommend a flight for everybody, it's an amazing experience.
