HP's Reverb VR Pro Headset

Recommended Posts

Try to buy from the original HP store and use the "HPREVERB1XX" coupon code, 639€ all in all until end of October (German HP store).

I've received a unit without a dead pixel, no cable issue, no overheating issue, no flickering. There you have the highest probability to get the fixed ones.

Hi.

Tried that last week (german holiday on Oct 3rd I believe) on the german HP-webpage and it did not work, since im from Austria and only german-adress-based people can buy from them.

Austrian HP-Shop on the other hand does not sell stuff directly but only links to some sellers, that in the Reverbs- case actually do not offer it.

I contacted the shop, I usually buy from (and that offers the Reverb actually quite cheaply) yesterday, but they could not tell me, if the Reverbs they sell, are the updated version, since they just receive the items from their dealer upon someones order.

Is there a way so see from the outside of the package (therefore not opening it), if the item is an updated one? Like production week higher than XX, etc??

It somehow seems, that HP dont want to sell me their products! I contacted them some time ago via their webpage and they did not answer and I cant order from the directly to get a revised Reverb for sure. Along with my general uncertainty, if VR is the way for me (after only a mediocre frist impression of the RiftS), this does not help me decide.

I will contact another dealer this afternoon and if he supply a updated Reverb. If he cant, I will postpone the whole thing for another month or so...

Edit 2hrs later: dealer has only old stock. So Ill wait...

Thx for the info!
Although i don't know if we can be exact. My friend got one with a serial of 933 and he is returning his because it keeps going black intermittently and starts working again after a day or so.

He must use a powered PCIe USB card or USB hub to eliminate the possibility that the unit isn't receiving enough power, did he?

He mentioned he was just using the USB ports from his computer so most likely not a pcie card or powered hub. He had the consumer version too but that should not matter.

Does anyone know if ED are going to do WMR native support for DCS? I have the HP Reverb for the last few days and while in the cockpit I keep losing tracking and it jumps about. I'm sure this is a DCS problem because I don't get headset tracking problems in other VR games like Fallout 4 etc.

I am not sure that is an instant cure. There are many variables involved and sure it removes some (SteamVR) but still leaves the WMR layer, your PC capability (CPU, USB etc.) and environment.

My Reverb works fine with DCS so I am not sure it is a DCD issue per se, but the combination of the load DCS puts on the PC along with the requirements of VR in general may be enough to tip the balance. Native WMR support could be enough to tip it the other way but that may be optimistic.

There has been no official statement that they will.

Wags only mentioned once that I am aware of that it may be something they look at eventually.

This could be due to not having enough light in your room, your room setup (if it has windows near by, or anything with reflecting surfaces). For example your monitor could be blocking some of the light required or reflecting it back at the headset.

I've always had the issue of the tracking jumping around when looking down and to the left or right obviously for those hard to see cockpit switches.

So to remedy that I heard that you should put your headset on before launching dcs and when the prompt instructs you to look up and down and side to side, look to the sides at an angle as if you are looking for those switches on the left or right panels as this will calibrate the headset to track this way before wmr cliff house boots up.

I'm waiting on my second reverb which HP sales re ordered for me after I returned the one with dead pixels. Order placed Oct 9th and I got an email Sunday that "my order has completely shipped"...whatever that means. FedEx has no tracking info for that tracking number. Hopefully they did not run out of stock.

But at least I got my refund super quick from HP.

According to the HP guy on Reddit it is units with serial numbers 930 or higher that are the revised versions.

The reverb I sent back had a serial of 932 and my friend's had a 933. His also had a dead pixel and blackouts.

I don't know when I will get my second one but I hope it will be issue free.

He had the consumer version too but that should not matter.
But it does matter, when the unit doesn't get enough power then how can you except to not get blackouts? Without a separate powering device it's like playing lottery if your Reverbs works or not. Do yourselves the favor and use a powered PCIe USB card or external powered hub just to be sure. These headsets are complete displays and not just one but two of them inside. Do you power your normal screen through USB and expect it to even start up? I know I don't.

Mine was fine running off the Mobo USB and the pcie card. I mean it does not matter if he ordered the consumer version or the pro version. He thought the consumer models also had issues.

Oh, that guy again. I was wondering what the source was of the information about serial number 9XX versus 9XX. Now I know. There are lots of other things he has been claiming that haven't turned out to be true, so this could very well be the same.

How do I turn off the "Reverb voice commands"? I was flying and said a word and it took to the Reverb menu.

Please keep in mind that I use my Reverb headset mic for communication with other devices. I just need to turn off the voice shortcuts on the Reverb only.

Thanks...

Yup. This goes way back to the days when the CV1 first came out. Oculus recommended on their support forums that people start installing a dedicated PCIe USB card that plugs into your PCs power supply. I followed their suggestion, and haven't had a single HMD issue since.

Just ordered my reverb from hp uk, the chap in sales assured me they have sorted all the problems now and the headset will work fine.

We shall see.

With that in mind, I hope having oculus home installed won’t confuse the reverb as I still want to use my rift s for shooting zombies and things like that.

Now to amazon to order an ssd for dcs and some more ram. It’s going to be an expensive night :D

And thanks sze5003 and eaglecrash867, your info really helped. I wouldn’t have had thought I could have run a reverb without your reassurances

He does work for HP QA. On Reddit he is taking people's case numbers or emails and following up with them.

The problem is HP support specialists are not told the same thing he posted on the HP support forums about the pro version of the headset being eligible for advanced RMA's.

At this point I also don't trust that the serial numbers meaning, we got a good one or not. My first one had green dead pixel and got hot in the front and my serial was 932 and my friend's had a dead pixel as well and serial 933.

If I don't see any movement on my second order anytime soon I'll contact them and see what happened. I got charged for it but the tracking number says FedEx doesn't have it.

In windows mixed reality settings under windows I think you can turn off voice commands.

You can leave Oculus installed but you may want to stop it from launching automatically by disabling one of the admin properties in the shortcut settings.

Righty oh, thanks
I also forgot to mention you can download a program from GitHub called revive to let you play your Oculus games on wmr headsets. I didn't use it with the reverb because I became outraged at the dead pixel but I did use it when I was using my Odyssey.

What program tells you to look up and down and side to side? I've installed Windows portal 3 times and it's never prompted me to do that and neither has any other program. Where have you seen these prompts or how do you get these prompts to show up? You say placing the headset on before DCS start up? You also have to have windows mixed reality portal stated for anything to show up in your headset, so how can you see these prompts in your headset before cliff house has started like you've said? Your post has me a bit confused can you explain this better please?

@Baldrik33 When you say your Reverb works fine in DCS are you saying it never losses tracking when you are flicking switches to the sides of you etc? I ask because it could mean I have a faulty headset if yours never does this. My room is ideal for WMR because it is a projector room with no windows. I also have a bright light at 3000 lumens to light up the room when needed. I've placed thing on the wall to so that WMR could track better and my WMR is not pointed at a white wall. My walls are purple. I have the latest Geforce graphics card which is a 2080ti, so my computer isn't a factor either. I also build and do my own computer repairs because I have lots of knowledge regarding this.

What I can't do though is test this HP Reverb on another computer because I don't have another one to test it on. But if you say you have no problems with losing tracking at times then this leads me to think it's the HP Reverb that has a fault.
