Fly the Anton now on Steam

Fw190A8-on-Steam.jpg.384213b36868fb819fa8337a0f0a73bb.jpg

Designed for the German Luftwaffe by famed aircraft designer Kurt Tank in the late-1930s, the Fw -190 was the backbone of the Luftwaffe in both fighter and attack bomber roles. Powered by a large radial engine, the A version of the Focke-Wulf 190 was superior in many ways to the Bf 109s and Spitfires at the time of its introduction. In fact, this led to the development of the Mk.IX version of the Spitfire. The Spitfire LF Mk.IX and the Fw 190 A-8 make excellent counterparts for DCS World. The Fw 190 later evolved into the Fw 190 D-9, also available on DCS World.

Many of the Luftwaffe’s aces racked up their impressive kill counts in the Fw 190 A due to its impressive fire power, excellent low to medium altitude performance, durability, and ease of flying. It saw action on both the eastern and western fronts where it was both respected and feared by allied pilots. Armament included two synchronized fuselage-mounted 13 mm MG131 machine guns and four wing mounted 20mm Mauser MG151/20E canons, two of which - synchronized. The Anton could also be loaded with unguided rockets and bombs.

The A-8 version of the Fw 190 entered production in February 1944, and it was powered by a BMW 801 D-2 radial engine. In addition to excellent low- and medium-altitude performance, the engine was also very rugged. Along with the F-8 version, it also had thicker armor around the engine. The engine also received the C3 injection system that provided an emergency boost of 1,980 PS in short durations.

Key Features:

  • Unmatched flight physics that allow you to truly feel what it's like to fly this legend.
  • Highly detailed, six-degrees-of-freedom (6 DOF) cockpit.
  • Interact with cockpit controls with your mouse.
  • Accurate Fw 190 A-8 model, squadron markings, and weapons.
  • Detailed modelling the Fw 190 A-8 instruments, weapons, engine, radios, fuel, and electrical systems.
  • Battle the Spitfire LF Mk.IX and P-51D Mustang in single and multiplayer games.

Updates of Airdrome Equipment

We continue to update the old models of airfield equipment. In the screenshots, you can see the new model of the Russian fire truck on the URAL truck base and the new model of the standard APA electrical airfield unit which will soon appear in the game.

Ka-50 Black Shark Update

As mentioned in an earlier newsletter, we are providing a fantastic, free graphical update to the Ka-50 Black Shark. This entails an entirely new cockpit and external model, textures, and the latest graphics technology like deferred shading and physical based rendering. When complete, it will be a radical improvement over the existing model.

The cockpit 3D model is nearly complete and it’s now awaiting texturing.

We will also be providing an upgrade option that adds several new systems to the Black Shark, we will go into those at a later date.

Eagle Dynamics at Flying Legends 2019

Last weekend part of our staff participated in the most iconic 2nd World War aviation flight show at Duxford, UK. Hosted by our sister company, The Fighter Collection, it’s an amazing show that you should definitely put on your bucket list!

This not only gave us the opportunity to see many iconic fighters, fighter-bombers, bombers and other airworthy warbirds, it also gave us the chance to get valuable research information that is not available in any book or archive.

We were also able to record cockpit sounds from the P-51D Mustang at take-off and through different flight regimes. We also had the opportunity to talk at great length with Erich Brunotte, a german fighter ace with 33 confirmed kills, that helped shed some light on the German warbirds. Getting such valuable feedback from the vanishing number warbird pilots is of great value to DCS World.

Should you plan to attend Flying Legends 2020, give us a shout on our forums and we would be more than happy to have a chat with you. See you at Duxford!

DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Jagdflieger Campaign Available!

The Jagdflieger campaign for the Bf 109 K-4 by Reflected Simulations is now available for purchase from the DCS e-Shop

It's March 1944, the beginning of the end. The Reich has become a fortress without a roof. The large formations of Allied four motors have become daily visitors. Come, join the German Luftwaffe in these dire times. Jump into one of JG26's Messerschmitt Bf-109-s and find out what it’s like to attack the "fat cats" head-on, or to take off in a hail of bullets from the attacking Mustangs. Watch the Allied forces land on the beaches of Normandy and support the retreating Wehrmacht. Let all the details immerse you in this semi-historical campaign and make you feel like a young Jagdflieger fighting a lost battle, where, like 1944, survival is the most you can hope for.

Dear pilots,

We apologize for the blank newsletter today. For the first time since we started the newsletters we suffered a glitch in the delivery process. We hope it will be the first and last! We are working to fix this asap.

In the meantime, here are some screenshots of the upcoming DCS: Supercarrier!

Supercarrier and Fight for Honor Updates

Header2019_720-EN.jpg.b4480839418b01eaf332709791f5584a.jpg

DCS: Supercarrier Update

Since our last update on this eagerly awaited module, our team has been focused on several core features of simulation of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier:

Creating the most accurate and detailed carrier model ever created for a flight simulation. This is not simply an update to the existing John C. Stennis aircraft carrier that we released last year, but rather a new object that is built from the ground up with accurate dimensions, high-resolution mesh and textures; animations for the elevators, antennas, defense systems, launch officer bubble, risers, catapults, jet blast deflectors, and more. The module will include unique skins for all ships of the Roosevelt sub-class that includes the Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), George Washington (CVN73), John C. Stennis (CVN-74), and the Harry S. Truman (CVN-75). Not only will there be the correct names and CVN numbers, but we also plan unique textures and deck weathering for each ship!

The Supercarrier will include the most accurate simulation of carrier communications you have ever heard in a game. This includes Case I, II, and III operations and unique voice overs for departure, marshal, approach, tower, the landing signal officer (LSO), and even messages over the 5 MC. Many of these parts are voiced by service members that filled the actual roles! We will also include the needed voice over files to support all aircraft types that have flown from a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, including the F-14.

To make the carrier deck feel alive, deck crew is a must. We are doing this through a combination of static-placed deck crew with animations that mission creators can place and fully pathed and animated deck crew that support launch operations from all four catapults. We are pushing this feature past anything that has been done before.

DCS-Supercarrier-10-238.jpg.834649c1003ac62d81fafed7041c8bb4.jpgDCS-Supercarrier-11-238.jpg.40357d1b296b49354c8066ed761d981e.jpgDCS-Supercarrier-13-238.jpg.ac8c9d7c220f40758421fbb2e2dd55c3.jpg

In addition to these three core areas, we are also working on / planning:

  • Up to 18 spawning locations on the carrier deck.
  • Flood lights in addition to standard lighting.
  • Long Range Laser Lineup System.
  • Barricade net.
  • Deck equipment like the crane, fire truck, and mules.
  • Detailed Landing Signal Officer (LSO) station with functional panels to control cut lights, wave off lights, manual ball control, and PLAT camera. This can be crewed while in VR.
  • “Burble” effect behind the carrier.
  • Air Boss station that can also be occupied in VR and allow control of the flood lights, barricade, and view the PLAT camera.
  • Immersive, 3D, Ready Room with functions to view briefings, load aircraft, view PLAT camera, vie the “Greenie Board”, view kill board that is tied to online statistics. All of this with a VR option.
  • Combined Arms support for steering the carrier and using weapons.

At this time, we have no release date or pricing, but they will be available at our very soonest.

Viper and Open Beta Update News

Header2019_720_Eng.jpg.5d17c324e3c9c2ba8de3903a26f42242.jpg

DCS: F-16C Viper Update

As we draw closer to the early autumn 2019 early access release of the Viper, progress has been rapid. You can find a list of our planned early access features here.

Our viper is already dropping bombs in CCIP and CCRP modes and strafing targets, and the navigation systems, flight model, and art is quite far along. The current focus is on rockets, air-to-air weapons and radar, the landing gear and underside of the aircraft, and tuning the flight model.

Next week we will start regular instruction videos. The first will be a cockpit orientation, and following that will be taxi and takeoff, waypoint navigation, VFR landings, and then unguided bomb attack.

DCS: F-16 Viper Cockpit Tour & More

Header2019_720.jpg.a9928aae8a9c85e7827606c64651dc15.jpg

DCS: F-16 Viper Academic Video #1: Cockpit Tour

Here is the first of the much-anticipated academic video series by executive producer Matt “Wags” Wagner. Enjoy this video that details the office for the DCS World Viper pilot. This video will give you a good idea of what is where and how detailed this new module will be. This orientation will be the basis for later Viper academic videos. It has been checked over by real-world Viper pilots to make sure you are getting the best Viper experience-to-date.

Wake Turbulence Visualization

You have been experiencing wake turbulence in DCS for a few months now, but as in real life, you haven't yet seen it. Now using particle visualization, we can show you the turbulence in action for the first time.

DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Jagdflieger Campaign Available on Steam!

The Jagdflieger campaign for the Bf 109 K-4 by Reflected Simulations is now available for purchase from the DCS Steam Store

Key Features:

  • 12 semi-historical missions focusing on JG26 from March to July 1944
  • A detailed background story, mission contexts and checklists
  • Detailed briefings and briefing images, including separate PDF mission files
  • Unique kneeboard graphics for each mission
  • Over 250 specially recorded voice-over messages and radio broadcasts
  • Historically accurate custom skins
  • A wide array of missions including free hunt, intercept, bomber escort and ground attack

DCS WWII Assets Pack & More

Header2019_720-EN.jpg.c54c1801d0d64d1c015e7679155c868e.jpg

DCS WWII Asset Pack News

We know many of you are excited to have new additions to the WWII Asset Pack and today we can show you that the skies and seas will be a little busier. First, we have the Douglas A-20 Havoc G. This variant came into service in February of 1943, and was the most produced version of the Havoc. It has two Wright R-2600 14 cylinder radial engines and is equipped with six fixed 12.7 mm Browning machine guns in the nose and two 12.7 Browning machine guns in a dorsal turret. It can carry up to 4000lbs of bombs and was considered a formidable light attack bomber. We believe it will be a great addition for missions in DCS WWII.

WIP-A-20-01-178.jpg.deefb6f3ba0b5903ccc51c80c20cf190.jpgWIP-A-20-02-178.jpg.aecdf887bbcad40cf93c3577b9ba21e0.jpgWIP-U-boat-Type-VII-01-178.jpg.806ca940daa78cf4d322ffda1aae562b.jpgWIP-U-boat-Type-VII-02-178.jpg.d8e16d1725b1c4fe06d9388bf94843a4.jpg

Coming to the waters of DCS WWII is the Type VIIC German U-boat. A workhorse of the German Navy starting in 1940, this U-Boat saw extensive action throughout the war. In 1942 the German navy experimented with what was called “U-flak”, adding extra anti-air protection to their submarines. While this worked for a short time, the RAF made their own adjustments, and the U-flak boats were discontinued and converted back to standard attack boats.

New Model for the T-72B3 coming

Coming soon to the DCS World battlefields is an updated model of the T-72B3. This upgraded version of the T-72B saw action in Syria and is destined to keep the type operational into the foreseeable future. The tank is equipped with a 125 mm smoothbore main gun, a 12.7 mm roof-mounted machine gun, and a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun. It can also fire the 9M119 and M119M guided missiles. It is equipped with the same armor used on the T-80 and T-90 main battle tanks. This new model should bring a lot more immersion to not only ground attack missions, but Combined Arms as well.

Header2019_720-EN.jpg.6eaf71bfcd8560d590fd0910a86ef702.jpg

DCS: A-10C Graphic Updates

One of the most anticipated updates right now is the free updates to the A-10C cockpit. 3D modelling is mostly complete and texturing is well underway. Today we would like to show you the amount of detail going into different parts of the cockpit, in this case, the seat. In the near future, we will be showing off some of the texturing work as well.

DCS: F-16 Viper Academic Videos

F-16-Nav-Video.jpg.8fccd8237d4253d47971e4e88bf2bc1d.jpg

As most of you know, new info on the DCS: F-16 Viper has been coming fast and furious. Matt ‘Wags’ Wagner has been cranking out his academic videos and you can see the first 5

.

The latest being DCS: F-16C Viper - Navigation

Much like the Hornet, these videos will continue right through Early Access helping you learn the Viper as it develops.

DCS: F/A-18C Current News

We know many users are concerned about progress on the Hornet with everything else going on, but we can assure you that we are still hard at work on getting the Hornet completed. Currently, AGM-62 ‘Walleye II’ is making good progress, but we need to develop a new man-in-the-loop data link from scratch for this. This is taking a lot of the team's time currently. When this new tech is completed though, it can later be used for the SLAM and SLAM-ER. As well, this week Range & Bearing Launch mode (R/BL) was added for internal testing for the Harpoon, as well as POP and SKIM options added to Terminal Mode, these should be coming to an Open Beta release very soon.

DCS Events BFM Tourney

Have you been watching the Fight for Honor BFM tournament on Twitch? There has been some incredible matches so far. As an example here is a fight between B3RNO vs Rossmum. Check it out and more at the DCS World Events Twitch channel!

DCS World Release Update

This week we moved Open Beta to Release with the following highlights:

  • Issues with -norender and Dedicated Server were solved
  • Issues with JDAM and Auto-bombing on the Hornet fixed
  • Spitfire sun glare fixed
  • Many updates to RAZBAM, Heatblur and Magnitude 3 modules

You can read the complete changelog here.

Next week we plan an update to the Open Beta version.

DCS: P-47 Progress Update

One of the most anticipated WWII modules for DCS is the P-47 and we are excited to say it is getting close. We now have a brand new external model and cockpit in final phase of completion and our FM guru Yo-Yo is hard at work on the turbo-compressor unit and remaining FM issues. It shouldn't be much longer before you will get your hands on this wonderful module.

DCS World Update

We sincerely apologize for not releasing a new Open Beta update this week, we should be back with one next week. One of the big fixes to be included will be a solution to the aircraft bouncing when taking off from a carrier and landing at an airfield. While you wait, the Grim Reapers found a nice little workaround, check out the video here. Thanks to Cap and his team at GR for their help.

DCS: F-16C Viper Release Update

Dear all, we are very sorry for the confusion regarding the release date which was registered on Steam. Since we started the pre-order, we stated that the early access release would be sometime in early Autumn 2019. On Steam, we were requested to enter a best estimate date in order to make the product available for pre-order. This happened months ago and at the time our best estimate was 25 September 2019. However, on the store page, we indicated early Autumn 2019 which is the official project release plan and this has been reflected in almost all videos, updates, and other news on this project. We will announce the actual day of release next week.

DCS: P-47 Turbocharger Development

Our FM designer, Dmitry “Yo-Yo” Moskalenko, shares some insight into the development of the P-47, specifically the turbocharger unit.

The P-47, in my mind, will be one of our most interesting aircraft from an engine handling point of view. We believe that it will be very challenging for users. It is one of the most interesting planes for developers from an engineer's point of view.

Let’s start from the point that this plane has no automatic boost control for manifold pressure, so it’s very easy to have it under or over-boosted during a dogfight. The automatic turbo governor of A-13 type (the most popular type) is far from perfect as the MP rises during climb and requires the pilot’s attention. Besides that, the pilot must watch the turbine speed and reduce boost not to over-speed as well as watch the carb temperature to avoid detonation.

Modelling the turbocharger, on the one hand, was new for us, but on the other hand, it represented an expansion of our existing thermodynamics method of modelling gas turbines and piston engines. So, we just added two existing parts: a turbine and a compressor coupling with a shaft, as we did for a gas turbine engine. The waste duct – a nozzle with a variable area – was used in our gas turbine engines and even in the War Emergency Power system for FW190A8 (waiting for its red button in the cockpit). The standard P&W R2800-5 engine with two-stage single speed geared supercharger receives fresh air not from the ram inlet but from the turbo supercharger – compressed and warmed through the intercooler which lowers its temperature. The exhaust gas flow feeds the turbine for compression.

Our system of equations, based on mass conservation law for airflow through the engine and gas parameters at each station, is now much heavier than with simple supercharger but remains robust. An automatic governor maintains the backpressure controlling the waste duct area. As nobody knows the exact parameters of the turbine and the charger, research was conducted as usual to determine their parameters from the data contained in several available test reports.

After calculations, the turbocharger was tested using the same schedule as for the real flight test profiles. The results are shown in the graphs. The first graph is a result of the “hands-off” test showing the backpressure kept at the same level as was set on the ground to generate 52” of Manifold Pressure and thus engine power increases with altitude gain. The second graph represents the test with MP kept constant manually, similar to the real test.

Damage Model Development Update

As we draw closer to the release of the new damage model, we would like to share some more of the small details that we think are really going to make this exciting for users once they get to try it themselves.

In modelling the different systems on the aircraft, we also focus on many aspects of the undercarriage. Now you can lose brakes on a specific wheel, suffer hydraulics failure on particular piston, and even damage the drives for the gear themselves. In addition and as shown in the images below, you can take damage that would cause the up or down locks to fail. This means you could suffer gear droop or gear collapse on landing.

As always we appreciate your patience and support as we prepare this radically new damage system for you. We are very excited for you to try it out for yourselves.

DCS: F-16C Viper Early Access Release

210749653_Header2019_720-EN(1).jpg.64a436550d30240f4b284232b08fbeaa.jpg

Why the F-16C

The Viper was the next logical extension to the F/A-18C Hornet. They both have a similar multi-role mission and share many of the same underlying technologies and systems. As such, we can be much more efficient by leveraging core technologies and features for both aircraft. The Viper is also cool aircraft that has been produced in massive numbers, with an equal number of fans around the world. It was a no-brainer.

Release Trailer

Development Start

F16-wing.jpg.1b9bc2cfad4c60761e69efa49c8dffe1.jpg

Every aircraft starts from the engine and flight model and follows by 3D modelling and development of all the systems. We started to develop the heart of the Viper in October 2018 creating the needed design documents and collecting as much information available to us. The main production phase started in April 2019 with many placeholder objects up to what you see now this will continue until the module is considered feature completed and can be moved from Early Access to release.

Development Speed

F16-taxi-2.jpg.6ae11197a0f8218eddcd697c3e4ac289.jpg

We have never developed a product so fast. Not only is this a testament to our amazing development team, but it also showed the value of creating core technologies that can be applied to multiple aircraft. The development of projects that are similar in tech will always help the speed of creating new tech. You can even see this in our WWII aircraft with similar engine types, and new tech for those.

Current Early Access Features

F16-taxi.jpg.7989aa3bc162eef0102558416e99ae1c.jpg

As development starts, a plan is put into place on what the key features will be required to make an enjoyable product in an Early Access environment. Much thought is always put into what will allow the most gameplay with features still to come. Even development of the Hornet, and what was most popular as it developed, as an example, the targeting pod. Of course, this is all based on how the systems tie together in development, and sometimes that can push much-requested features further out, you can see this with IFF as an example.

Q&A from community

F16-formation.jpg.2d9f8e550985f80ba5dc1c29394e0e0c.jpg

Q: The number of available skins?

A: Default skin only.

Q: Can I use bonuses to purchase?

A: Yes.

Q: Why is the DED not listed at all? Are there no plans to fully simulate the DED?

A: DED is an important part of different systems. As functionality for these systems is added, corresponding pages on DED will be added.

Q: Are there any plans to include a virtual pilot for the Viper?

A: Of course.

Q: How is the FBW-based PFM developed from publicly available data to something that is actually so close to reality that a Pilot/SME is able to validate it and sign off on?

Q: The FLCS for the F-16 had to be constructed from the ground-up. How was that process?

A: Building FLCS from scratch was a difficult task, requiring a lot of research and a lot of effort, due to complexity and a lack of information. F-15C and F/A-18C development experience came in handy.

Q: When implementing something like the RWS radar mode into the F-16, how much of that code is able to be transferred straight from the F/A-18C into the F-16C, and how much has to be modified/rewritten completely?

Q: How much common codebase do the Viper and Hornet have? Will developing systems and weapons for both be seamless and much easier as EA development continues? Can this common base also be applied to future fixed-wing products like the F-4E?

A: A significant amount of code has been reused, which greatly simplified and accelerated development. In the future, this will help in the development of other modules. However, there are still many things we created from scratch.

Q: In the future will there be other variants?

Q: is there ever going to be DLC's for F-16 that simulate different F-16's? ( i.e Block 40 Night Falcon, Block 30 )

A: Perhaps, we will consider this option.

Q: Is the Sniper pod still being considered further down the road?

Q: Will the sniper pod make a return?

A: Yes.

Q: Will Hornet and Viper be feature-tied when it comes to development and update? So if one got AGM-65 (just an example), will the other be getting it at the same time? (or around the same time?)

A: We will try to. It is in our interests too.

Q: Was wondering if there are plans to implement the Viper's AGCAS to save pilots from GLOC death.

A: Too modern for the modelled variant.

Q: How will LGB's work starting online from a cold/dark empty plane on day1? I.e. where do you set the LGB code? Will this be a server setting that bombs will default to?

A: Laser code is set in a mission in EA. Later we will add the ability to set the code on a runway, similar to F-5E-3.

Q: Is there anything more you can share at this point regarding Ground Radar?

Q: How far is the development regarding ground radar?

A: Work in progress.

Q: For us who don't have cool detents on our throttles, is there any plans to add a similar feature the hornet has (the finger lift to after burner) that'll prevent me from accidently hitting the burner when I'm trying to only go to full mil?

A: It’s already in EA.

Q: Can HARM targeting system and Litinging targeting pod be mixed in the future?

A: Carried together - yes.

Q: The F/A-18 already has HARM. Will we be seeing that available for the Viper in POS/HAS modes before the HTS pod is released, or will you be waiting to release them as a bundled upgrade?

A: We will start from common modes and then proceed to HTS.

Q: When can we expect TWS for the f-16?

A: This is one of our priorities for the near future.

Q: What are the deliverables expected of the F16 Viper before the developers move back onto completing the Hornet?

A: Engineers will return to Hornet development in the near future.

Q: Will there be a "Viper mission of the week (month? can't remember)" like you initially did with the Hornet?

A: About once a month.

AI vs the New Damage Model

As the new damage model is being implemented, tested and tuned for all our WWII modules we are making sure that all aspects of gameplay are checked and tuned as well. Is this case, with the new damage model we noticed that the AI can be very accurate, and many times testing vs the AI, they would land all shots center mass, any times scoring a pilot kill before anything else.

SpitIX-Shooting.jpg.51822c08c777ffec1890ec87f3b3f03e.jpg

To deal with this we have added a couple of new functions to the AI. First, we added error aiming offset, this will prevent the AI from shooting at the center of the model, and will be adjusted based on the skill set in the Mission Editor. This makes it more realistic when you manage to get some distance on the AI, but letting them in close will still be as deadly as expected.

Secondly, there is also a function for tracers aiming correction, this means that when the AI is using tracer rounds, the AI will correct its aim only as the AI fires on a target. The time required for the AI to adjust its aim is based on skill level as well, so excellent level AI will adjust their aim much faster than lower-skilled AI.

Now this is only the first phase of these changes, the next adjustments will focus on targeting of key components and areas of different aircraft, as we were told by Luftwaffe fighter pilot Erich Brunotte, they were instructed to fire on the inner left engine on B-17s as there were some critical systems that were not doubled located there. This will allow the AI to be more precise as far as targeting aircraft components going forward.

Lastly, we have tuned how aggressive the AI is when firing on a disabled or already destroyed enemy plane, currently with new damage model testing, the AI would unload on you, and not let up until every part of you was a flaming hunk of wreckage, now, the AI should recognize when you are damaged enough, or dead and stop firing, hopefully this will allow the AI to maintain more ammo, and be more useful in large scale fights.

These new AI features should be available in this week's Open Beta update, we ask you to share your experiences with the AI tweaks and give us feedback on your personal experience with it.

DCS World Open Beta Update

This Friday we are releasing a new Open Beta update with the following highlights:

  • AI Combat Improvements
  • R/BL mode for Harpoons on the Hornet
  • A number of fixes for the DCS: F-16 Viper
  • A number of fixes for the DCS C-101 by AvioDev

You can read the complete changelog here.

Many thanks to all our faithful community.

Yours sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team

Open Beta update

We released a new Open Beta update this week. Much of the focus has been on the Viper and includes initial Basic IFF and fuel tank jettison. On the Hornet front, we are introducing the AGM-62 Walleye ER/DL with support from the AWW-13 Data Link Pod. Along with these highlights, many more fixes have been included and you check out the complete changelog here.

Development Report #1

In order to provide greater transparency in our endeavours, we are happy to introduce a new series of Development Reports. These will shed light on some of the most requested features and their progress.

New AI FM (GFM) - currently in progress

Last week we introduced some new skills for our AI pilots, and we want to thank you for the feedback. We are happy to hear that it’s making a big difference! We are also working on what we term the GFM (General Flight Model), and this is the new FM for the AI that you may have heard us hint at earlier. This FM will support asymmetric payloads, and naturally crosswind landings. We think this will make the AI pilots fly in a more realistic and human fashion. The GFM will not only simulate kinematic movement, but also true stability and controllability characteristics of the plane and their natural behavior at takeoff and landing. The current effort is on building variations of mass and moments of mass in flight. In the future, we will develop the principal functionality to support super maneuverability.

UH-1H Multi-Crew Functionality - currently in internal testing

This hugely anticipated feature is close to seeing the light of day. We have begun internal testing of multi-crew functionality for the Huey. The initial testing is progressing well, and it will allow two pilots to fly the Huey as a team. Pilots will be able to interact with each other’s panels, and it should be a beet fun addition to an already excellent module.

Next week we will share some new information about Modern Air Combat (MAC) and the Supercarrier module.

Thanks for your support.

Yours sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team

Other Development Updates which might be of interest:

  • F/A-18C Hornet: the team is focused on the completion of the AGM-62 Walleye, updating the Harpoon, implementing dynamic launch zones / release points for JDAMs and JSOWs and Pre-Briefed mode for the AGM-88 HARM. The Team are working on completing and improving the current weapons prior to moving on to new systems such as the SLAM and SLAM-ER. TWS and enhanced radar modes will follow.
  • P-47D: A lot of work is being put into the external model that includes the landing gear, landing gear doors, intercooler and oil cooler flaps, landing flaps and creating realistic paint schemes. The cockpit is coming along well with remaining work mostly on the lighting and cockpit-view pilot model. The team are tuning the flight model, power plant and systems.
  • Supercarrier: the model is 95% complete with deck crew animations progressing well. This week we made good progress on the holdback bar animations and general scripting of launch operations. We’ve also made good progress on the LSO platform which offers an exceptional level of detail and functionality. For the early access launch, we plan 14 aircraft spawn locations.
  • Mi-24: UV mapping of the pilot’s cockpit is almost done and then we will spend about a month working on the animations and textures. The flight model is near 80% complete.
  • Integrated Voice Chat: We are now in the final stretch of rolling out the test version. We’ve added a minimize command, volume options, mic options, and bug fixes. Following the initial release, we will implement the creation of rooms.
  • New Effects: We are currently working on missile flame and smoke enhancements as well as new tracer art. This should deliver a new level of realism to exhaust flames based on motor and fuel type.
  • Dynamic Campaign: We now have a basic test version that works within DCS World to evaluate the real-time strategy element of the system. We are using this to debug the system. In parallel, work is now underway on the UI interface and the AI machine learning code. This is complex and is receiving a lot of focus at the moment.
  • Our new ‘secret’ terrain is coming along very well. We hope to be releasing screens shots soon...

Yours sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team

Open Beta Update

Due to a statutory holiday in Russia this week, the team enjoyed a much needed day off to recharge and rest, because of this, we were only able to release a smaller update. You can read about it here. This update fixed some critical crashes throughout the game.

Some highlights are:

  • F:16C - Fixed crash with rockets firing after selective jettison
  • F/A:18C - Fixed DCS hangs on SA page.
  • AIM-7 - Fixed bug that caused the missile seeker to not see chaffs.

Development Report #4

  • Hornet & Viper: Our focus is currently on cleaning up the F-16C enough to release it to the “stable” version and there are a number of must have items on the to do list notably Track While Scan (TWS), some flight dynamics tuning and cockpit systems developments. Meanwhile, other team members are at work on the Hornet TWS and weapon systems enhancements. We expect a hard push on the Hornet’s radar and targeting pod by the end of the month.

  • SA-5 (S-200V) new 3D models: The S-200 (NATO: SA-5 Gammon) is a Russian medium to high altitude long-range heavy surface-to-air missile (SAM) system. A highly-proliferated weapon, it is currently in service in at least 12 countries. The later S-200V, S-200M, and S-200VE use the 5V28 missile. The missile measures 10.7 m in length, 0.86 m diameter, and has a range up to 250 km. The 5V28 uses a proximity fused conventional 217 kg HE warhead with semi-active homing guidance.

    • Different cloud types, such as:
      • Cumulus
      • Сumulonimbus
      • Сirrus
      • And variations.

      [*]Localized precipitation

      [*]Multiple cloud layers

      [*]Multi-player synchronization

[*]Lower Performance overhead with minimal to no “pop-in”

Open Beta Delay

We planned and announced the release of our next Open Beta on the 20th of November 2019. However, due to substantial technical issues faced in the development of certain F-16C Viper features we were compelled to move the Open Beta release to the 27th of November 2019. As a small bonus for your patience we have prepared a Thanksgiving gift – our new VoIP in-game feature:

DCS Voice Chat gives our players the possibility to talk within DCS multiplayer sessions without the need to use other applications. It's based on WebRTC technology and brings high-quality audio communication to the game right out of the box.

For the initial release, DCS Voice Chat contains one common room and separate rooms for each coalition with free movement between common and chosen coalition rooms. Soon after the initial release, we'll add support of user-created rooms with the possibility to create a personal audio chat for you and your friends. Also, you can choose to use an open mic or Push-to-talk function.

We have huge plans for further development of the feature including automatically created rooms for multi-crew, radio support with real radio visibility depending on the power of actual radio units and terrain, frequency-based coms etc.

DCS World Tutorial & Training Range

DCS World can be a bit daunting to new players, so this week we introduced a new forum section for those just getting started in DCS World, those still learning, and those that enjoy helping others. You can find it here:

https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/12-dcs-world-tutorial-amp-training-range/

If you are a new user, this section is for you! We will be building a repository of the best DCS World tutorials and guides. You can also meet players that want to help you and squadrons looking for new members that want you to have fun and learn.

If you are a video tutorial or guide creator for DCS World, this section is also for you. Here you can share all your great content and get feedback from your audience.

Do you enjoy helping new DCS World pilots? A rewarding aspect of this hobby is working together to spread knowledge and give a helping hand to new pilots.

The goal of this new section is to help flatten the DCS World learning curve, and we look forward to your participation and feedback on how we can further improve it.

Development Report #6

  • Working with our partners at Deka Ironwork, we plan to release the DCS: JF-17 Thunder on December 4th, 2019. It will be available from both the DCS World e-Shop and Steam. Stay tuned for more details!
  • The team has been cranking away on the F-16C Viper, but we needed a few more days to complete the announced features for the next Open Beta. Eagerly awaited features of the next F-16C update will be the Track While Scan (TWS) radar mode, initial data link, external lights, centerline fuel tank, and more. Following this Open Beta, our modern-day fixed-wing jet dev team will focus on the Hornet’s targeting pod, TWS and other radar modes, updates to weapons like the JDAM and JSOW, and more.
  • Supercarrier work continues to revolve around the deck crew animations, improved lighting and visual effects as well as the LSO station. We are on track to release the Early Access of this module in the very near future.
  • Both the A-10C and Ka-50 new cockpits are progressing well with a lot of work invested into realistic textures and effects. We will use these products to take cockpit night lighting to the next level.
  • The Mi-24 cockpits are progressing well and we should be able to show you the first renders in the very near future.
  • The P-47 is looking beautiful inside and out and our flight model engineers have been very busy tuning the flight dynamics to match the real aircraft based on excellent references and first-hand pilot experience.
  • The visual effects of the new WWII damage model are now getting most of the focus because the internal damage effects and the physics are nearly complete. It’s just as important for the damage to look correct as the impact on systems and aircraft performance.
  • The basics of the dynamic campaign simulation engine are working in the map view and we’ve been using this to test the RTS element of the system. To support this, we’ve been adding new icons to the map for items like factories, warehouses, logistic units, and more. Work is also underway on providing visual indications of ground force movements and emplacements in the map view.

Thank you all for your passion and support.

Sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team

DCS: JF-17 Thunder by Deka Ironworks Released

221849456_Header2019_720-EN(6).jpg.f8bce2eadf67cc2f2b9a3c2eabad6474.jpg

DCS: JF-17 Thunder by Deka released!

The DCS: JF-17 Thunder by Deka Ironworks is now available for download:

DCS World e-Shop

DCS Steam

JF-17 is a single-seat, single-engine, multirole light fighter that jointly developed by AVIC Chengdu and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC). The design phase of JF-17 "Thunder" finished on May 31st, 2002, and the maiden flight was made on August 25th, 2003. The first plane delivered to PAF (Pakistan Air Force) in 2007. Currently, several different blocks of JF-17s are in service in Pakistan and Myanmar air forces. There are also several countries interested in purchasing this fighter jet. On February 27th, 2019, "Thunder" has withstood the test of actual combat and helped PAF win an appreciable victory.

"Thunder" is a type of fighter that specifically tailored for PAF. The development plan of her predecessor can even be traced back to 1985. At first, PAF was only looking for a fighter that can replace Shenyang J-6 (Chinese version of Mig-19), but they were not satisfied with Chengdu’s J-7M. After more than 20 years of development, the final product "Thunder" becomes completely different from J-7M.

"Thunder" has a bubble canopy of great view, pretty strake-wing layout and advanced avionics. KLJ-7 radar provides excellent air to ground capability. WMD-7 targeting pod can help "Thunder" searching for targets in combat. Although "Thunder" has small size, remember that: she is one of the most advanced fighter jets in the DCS World.

Key features of the DCS: JF-17 "Thunder" include:

  • Nonlinear industry-level high fidelity 6DOF rigid-body flight model with real-life aerodynamic coefficients
  • Line-by-line recreated real-life full authority longitudinal fly-by-wire system and lateral/directional control augmentation system with various modes and control law reconstruction on malfunction.
  • Highly detailed aircraft exterior model: skin winkle, faded paint, oil residue and other details; even the position of each rivet is faithfully restored.
  • A highly-detailed 6DOF cockpit. Three massive MFCDs with advanced HOTAS interface help you master the plane, as well as the battlefield.
  • Accurately simulated sub-systems: communication and navigation systems, fire control systems, store management system, electro-mechanical management systems, air data system, DTC card, warning system, defense system, hydraulic system, pneumatic system, electrical system, environment conditioning system, oxygen system, external/cockpit light system, power plant control system, zeroizer system, eject seat system, and g-suit etc.
  • Detailed malfunction/failure simulation: the module has over 200 system malfunctions and more than 100 damage partitions covering near 100 onboard devices; mutual malfunction effects between systems are also simulated.
  • KLJ-7 radar can track 10 targets and attack 2 targets at the same time. KLJ-7 can also search/track surface (ground and sea) moving targets.
  • Advanced stand-off attack capability: including LS-6 and GB-6 glide bombs, C-802AK anti-ship missile and CM-802AKG Man-In-the-Loop (MITL) missile.
  • WMD-7 targeting pod can be used to search/track surface targets, identify air targets and provide guidance for laser-guided weapons.
  • Advanced electronic warfare system: including chaff/flare dispense systems (OESP), KG-600 self-protect jamming pod that can locate radiation source and missile approach warning system (MAWS) installed on the tail.
  • On-board datalink supports battlefield situation sharing between JF-17s and between AWACS.
  • Detailed radio command options for ground crew interactions.
  • Player-friendly configurations in Special Option.
  • Air to air refuelling capability (Plan to add later).
  • Campaigns for JF-17 in the Caucasus theatre (TBD).

Thrustmaster Special 10th anniversary Release

There was an exciting announcement from Thrustmaster this week as they released a new HOTAS Magnetic Base and the F-16C Viper™ HOTAS Add-On Grip. Both of these coming to celebrate 10 years of the HOTAS Warthog™ Flight Stick and to celebrate the release of the eagerly-anticipated DCS: F-16C Viper module.

HOTAS Magnetic Base

base.jpg.8151cfd2cdb5357c11cb10d3de33e261.jpg

Thrustmaster is now giving members of its flight sim community the opportunity to totally customize and build their own dream setup from the ground up, thanks to the launch of a standalone version of its beloved HOTAS Magnetic Base for the very first time ever. The ability to purchase the base on its own gives simmers a level of adaptability that they’ve only been able to dream about until now, allowing them to use any of their favorite Thrustmaster add-on flight sticks (sold separately) with the base — and ushering in a brand-new era of optimized, fully customizable flight experiences for each and every user. The HOTAS Magnetic Base also proudly sports an eye-catching logo paying homage to the HOTAS Warthog™ Flight Stick’s 10th anniversary, sure to appeal both to collectors and old-school simmers looking to give their flight setup a dramatic instant upgrade.

HOTAS Magnetic Base key features:

  • Detachable metal plate for desk or cockpit-style use, with special 10th-anniversary graphic.
  • The base features H.E.A.R.T Hall Effect AccuRate Technology, with 3D (Hall Effect) magnetic sensors for surgical precision that won’t decrease over time.
  • Super stable weighted base (weighs more than 4.4 lb / 2 kg without a flight stick grip installed).
  • The base is compatible with all flight simulation games.
  • Compatible on PC with the following Thrustmaster flight stick grips: HOTAS Cougar™, HOTAS Warthog™, F-16C Viper™ and F/A-18C Hornet™.

F-16C Viper™ HOTAS Add-On Grip

f16.thumb.jpg.6f5d297a9234cfd984f592941b3f3528.jpg

The availability of the Thrustmaster F-16C Viper™ HOTAS Add-On Grip, a life-size (1:1 scale) namesake replica of the real F-16C Viper™ flight stick, coincides with the recent early-access launch of the F-16C Viper module in the legendary DCS combat flight simulation game.

Inspired by the incredible success of the HOTAS Warthog™ Flight Stick (still the benchmark against which all other joysticks are judged), the grip integrates perfectly — and natively — with the DCS: F-16C Viper module, specially designed to replicate in minute detail the strike fighter aircraft whose outstanding versatility continues to make it a favorite of air forces around the globe. The real-world F-16C Viper™ is a supersonic multirole fighter jet in large-scale production, featuring renowned adaptability to meet the demands of a wide variety of different combat situations.

This is certainly an exciting chance for members of Thrustmaster’s community to once again access the very best in terms of flight sim quality and feel currently available, in order to truly get the most out of the breathtaking gaming experience delivered by this new DCS module that simmers everywhere can’t stop raving about.

F-16C Viper™ HOTAS Add-On Grip key features:

  • Life-size (1:1 scale) replica of the real F-16C Viper™ flight stick.
  • 100% metal design incorporating durable, industrial-grade materials for an authentic feel and maximum product lifespan.
  • 19 action buttons in total, plus one 8-way “point of view” hat switch.
  • Native integration in the game DCS via the dedicated DCS: F-16C Viper module (core game free and module sold separately).
  • Backward-compatible with the two key joystick bases in Thrustmaster’s revered flight simulation ecosystem: HOTAS Warthog™ and HOTAS Cougar™ (sold separately). Easily place the grip on your HOTAS Warthog™ or HOTAS Cougar™ base!

Although the product is, of course, compatible with all of the most popular flight simulation games, the F-16C Viper™ HOTAS Add-On Grip above all represents a real extension of the DCS: F-16C Viper module, for which — and this bears repeating — it features native integration!

The Development report will move to bi-weekly so we have less of a chance in repeating ourselves. Stay tuned for Development Report #8 next week!

Many thanks to all our faithful community.

Yours sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team
