Wow that export lua supports LOS calculation and that you even used "Friis" equation, awesome!

I also have SB Tactic 3D, the "Alpha", since two of us have an SB it's probably related to Creative driver/the fact that we're using USB audio chip in the SB headset.

I am surprised, why does 4.6.2 not come automatically with Win update? (At least on Win 10 I'd expect such a vital software to get auto-updated...)

Ok just tried your new version, audio preview working flawless on my current .NET version 4.6.1, I see green bars moving and hear myself, no 4.6.2 needed YET it seems! :D

What are the two radio channels "AN/ARC-186(V)" and "AN/ARC-164 UHF" in MiG-29S for?

Both, Please try the version attached. Managed to get back a little early. I've switched the system I use to output audio.

Double check your Speaker assignment before pressing preview as the order of the items in that box may have changed with the alternative output.

It'll work against any server running 1.2.8.0 fine but I've not changed the version number or you won't be able to connect to them otherwise

I'm happy to report that this version works fine on Sound Blaster Tactical 3D, no more app closing after clicking "audio preview".

Thanks again Ciribob!

Already fixed - Glad its working!

What are the two radio channels "AN/ARC-186(V)" and "AN/ARC-164 UHF" in MiG-29S for?

Click Server settings on the client and if Radio expansion is on you'll get extra radios for quite a few aircraft. Radio Expansion is ON on BuddySpike and OpenConflict and I assume you're on one of those, hence you're getting that radio.

I'm happy to report that this version works fine on Sound Blaster Tactical 3D, no more app closing after clicking "audio preview".

Thanks again Ciribob!

Thats great to hear! I will do a release late tonight as a hot-fix then for this if I have time. Thanks for your patience and help testing. :)

thanks. I was waiting this news. Do you recommend to install last version and then this hotfix over the last version or just you gonna bring a whole fixed version?

First update .net and then try the hotfix linked above.

It it works, let me know and I'll release a whole new update later for everyone later. Found a bug with hotkeys which I'll add to the fix as well :)

Edit: what headset / soundcard was not working for you?

New Release Version - 1.2.8.1

This release is a Hotfix for 1.2.8.0 to add compatibility with more hardware. Its a major API change so fingers crossed it helps more than hinders! Preliminary testing looks good :)

.NET Version updated - PLEASE INSTALL THIS or it may not work: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=53345

The rest of the notes below are copied over from 1.2.8.0

This release is quite a big one. Distance scaling rewritten and the addition of the AWACS panel allowing up to 10 radios to be used.

Please test your mic volume with the preview button before connecting to a server to make sure you're not too loud or quiet. VU meters will now help show this as well.

Please keep sending recordings if you hear garbled audio!

The AWACS panel does not yet have Line of Sight / Distance limitations as the spectator or GCI position is not associated with a position ingame. The next step will be adding that and eventually also allowing the position to be sent from LotATC instead of DCS if you want to :)

Changelog

  • Bug fix for radio switch hotkey working when it shouldn't
  • Reworked hotkeys to "most matching" keybind will be activated.
  • Added VU meter for input and output when the radio is running and for preview. Is the radio is connected, VU meter will work for that and not preview
  • Fixed Autoconnect lua
  • Improved mixing efficiency
  • Reworked Audio encoding slightly to see if this solves occasional mixing issue
  • Awacs / GCI / ATC Panel with up to 10 radios - 8 UHF / VHF + 2 FM - This panel can only be used when in spectator or a non aircraft slot.
  • Reworked HotKeys implementation. Key binds now have priority so the most matching one is picked.
  • AWACS panel gains a "Sat phone" panel (Intercom Hotkey) where you pick a channel from 0 -100 and can talk to any other awacs on that channel
  • Improved Stereo Mixing
  • Improved Distance Fade Logic - will fade over the last 10% of transmission distance but you'll only really hear it at 5% or less
  • Added optional Auto Focus return to DCS. If the overlay window is active and then the mouse moved off the window, focus to DCS will be returned within a second
  • Version check when connecting to server to stop mismatched versions
  • Targeting Latest .Net - Update here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53344

This release has new LUA and new server side options as well as a new packet protocol so won't work against older servers or with older clients. It also won't let you connect to an older server.

As the LUA and most of the radio has gone through a massive change - Please let me know if you spot any issues.

As always - Please let me know if you have issues so I can help solve them! :)

Wiki - Manual + Help

Thanks to Nossarian, there is now a Wiki here which will eventually be a central place for all documentation. Big thank you for the help! :)

Auto Connect Feature - Server Owners ONLY - Clients don't need this file!

To enable SRS clients to be prompted automatically to connect just add the DCS-SRS-AutoConnectGameGUI.lua to the appropriate DCS Saved Games folder e.g. DCS.openbeta/Scripts, DCS.openalpha/Scripts or jut DCS/Scripts

Edit the line below to your server address where SRS server is running. Port is optional. DCS must be restarted on the server for this file and any changes to take effect.

-- CHANGE FROM
SRSAuto.SERVER_SRS_HOST = "127.0.0.1" -- Port optional e.g. "127.0.0.1:5002"

--TO
SRSAuto.SERVER_SRS_HOST = "5.189.162.17:5002" -- BuddySpike One
-- OR
SRSAuto.SERVER_SRS_HOST = " 37.59.10.136" -- TAW One (port optional)

And thats it.

If a client isn't connected and has SRS running they'll be prompted to connect automatically. You'll also see the message posted in the chat listing the address when slots change or a client connects.

Finally - I need your help!

If you'd like to help with this project, please help me fill in this sheet of radio info! It'll also help correct any mistakes I've made with the Radios.

With the newest update i have the following issue, when i press audio preview.

Problem Initialising Audio Output! Try a differnt output device.

I don't have a different audio device, i'm just using a 3.5mm plug into the motherboard.

I'm on win10, .net is 4.6.2, sound card is the standard realtek stuff. Previously i haven't had this issue.

Google says that could be due to 1000 of different things and it comes from Library code not mine... :/ Very annoying as the API I switched to should be the most likely to work! Oh well.

I've added a build to the 1.2.8.1 release for you thats exactly the same but the old audio API (https://github.com/ciribob/DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone/releases/latest). Just install over the one you've got at the minute.

Eventually it'll be a button in settings to switch between the two but for now try that.

Sorry for the issue.

I'm also away from tonight for a lot of the week so won't be able to help much with troubleshooting.

Thanks that works.

If it helps, i was googling it and the error before, and everything pointed to an issue with the application being 32bit but the system 64bit.

i doubt it will help...

Yeah found something similar.... Its very odd. Everyone running DCS has 64-bit Windows and the SimpleRadio is compiled for 32bit (x86) specifically otherwise the Audio encoding using Opus doesnt work as thats a 32bit dll.

If .Net really was running it as 64bit - The encoding wouldn't work let alone the audio preview so its all a bit odd that it crashes there and not when loading the dll.

Glad the other version works! As I said above, eventually when I get time in a week or so I'll do a build where you can switch between old and new audio api so its all in one build.

So, i'm wondering if i'm not getting this right or if it's SR. 2 guard channels (where do i set these anyway?) and i'm pretty sure the 2nd radio could be set to VHF frequencies. Seems we no longer can (in the F-15 that is).

This is v1.2.8.0 btw.

Thats all correct. :) Incredibly the F-15C modelled in DCS did not have a VHF radio, only two UHF. Somewhere in this thread is a link to an article saying they did it recently.

Check guard frequencies and standard radios here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tzd996zJ1t0heZ-t1PpL7vNUIZbXl7pI6De0GThN1Qw/edit#gid=1869108790

The extra 3rd VHF Radio at the bottom is because expansion radios are turned on server-side.

Guard frequencies are listed on that link above and can be toggled by right clicking on the frequency

Hope that helps clear up confusion!

Hey Ciribob,

Reporting two issues that we're experiencing:

First issue: Since we first began using SR, we've had an issue with the microphone boost, whereby if a speaker had his boost settings above 100, AND he spoke above a certain volume, the receiver would get a very distorted transmission. Speaking at a relatively normal/low volume would not produce the distortion. We solved this by simply informing all members to keep the boost below 100, and the issue was not experienced.

Since 1.2.6, this distortion is back, unless we change the mic boost to be below 0, usually in the -50 to -90 range. So it's manageable, but certainly an issue worth reporting.

Second issue: The "radio effect" is a bit more difficult to describe via forum, but I have recorded some audio samples if my explanation here fails. First, I had felt that the radio effect being applied to the voice was a bit weak... that is, I would hear the transmitter in an unexpectedly high quality, with some background noise applied to make the transmission sound "distorted". To my surprise, I was watching a Ralfidude youtube video, where he was using SR, but all of the transmissions he received sounded pretty aweseome... so I assumed there was something misconfigured on my side.

Yesterday, while testing the first issue above with a fellow member, he reported that I sounded very much like I was coming through a radio, while I reported that he sounded very much like we were on TS, but with background noise.

I attempted to retest with a another member today, and it was the opposite, although I've changed nothing! That is, I sound to him as if I'm talking on TS with some background noise accompanying my transmission, while he sounds to me as if he's on a radio!

Please let know what I can do help demonstrate this experience if my explanation above fails to convey the problem. We're currently on 1.2.8.0, although I've experienced the above previously.

The same here.

We have experience a lot of distorsion using radios since 1.2.6- i didn´t noticed it could be related with the microphone boost.

We are going to test it with -50 and see if this changes something.
