  1. https://discord.gg/sySYqKEw2M Combined Joint Task Force Theta is a US-based DCS tactical realism group with an emphasis on joint air/land/sea multi-national operations. As a tactical realism group, our focus is on the employment of realistic military tactics and doctrine. The group’s main activity are handcrafted campaigns. Campaign missions are run on a weekly to bi-weekly basis. Most often the campaigns depict realistic military operations, but we are not above more fantastical plots on rare occasions. CJTF-Theta does not have mandatory attendance policies. We understand the fact that life sometimes gets in the way of pastimes. The group also does not stipulate that we be the only DCS community that you participate with. If you are interested in joining, want to learn more, or just want to pop in now and then for a flight connect with us via our Discord linked beneath. Any other DCS communities interested in participating in our campaigns, events, or connecting for any other reason are welcome to reach out to us as well. null CLICK ME! https://discord.gg/sySYqKEw2M
  2. let me start with a few kind words toward the Mi-24, i love the Mi-24 module, i was an early adopter (pre-ordering it) and its probably the aircraft ive flown the most, i know it is the helicopter ive flown the most, Petrovitch is a lovely co-pilot and is quite helpful in combat and with a decent enough selection of weapons it makes the Mi-24 quite effective against most targets . . . but it could be better, so here are the things that i think are missing and Wishlist of things that should be added most of the following requires no elaboration, when i feel its needed i will put it in (parentheses), and if something is a joke it will be in italics first we will start with the fixes 1- Copilot-gunner multicrew jitteriness (when i enable the CPG's body he jitters alot like the animations are broken and when i move the stick his hand doesn't move with it nor does the check watch animation work) 2-external pilot head movement animations sometimes break (some times the pilots head will just be fixed looking down and to the left, i have experienced this while with a MC CPG and i was in the pilots seat) 2nd, onto the missing features (where did they go?) 1- working cargo bay lights (the switch in the cockpit does nothing both in blue and white modes) 2- working helmet visors (when you lower the helmet visor it should have some level of sunglasses effect so you can fly into the sun without it blinding you) 3-Air to ground mode for the R-60M's 4- the ability to "eject", to jump out of the hind 5- full manual (im sure it will come on release, but i am just noteing it here so its not forgotten) as for the updates, there is one in particular 1- better/more accurate blade tip lights, (i dont know what they look like irl, but in photos they look a lot more like 1 long round streak than the 5 individual lights) now for my favourite section, the Reasonable Wishlist of features, (most of these are also on my fellow hind pilots wish lists and most aren't out of the realm of possibility) 1- reduced loadout ATGM's (having one ATGM per rack on each side, some one who is assumed to be an Mi-24 dev said that they wont waste time on "exotic loadout's" but this is both bad reasoning, and untrue, its not hard to find picture's and videos from Afghanistan and Syria where Mi-24's are carrying only 2 ATGM's one on each side, it is a historic and common loadout and something i have many photos of, the apache has reduced hellfire's, there is no reason the Mi-24 shouldn't) 2- reduced loadout S-8 rockets, (i have been informed that in certain higher altitude parts of Afghanistan Mi-24's flew with only half filled S-8, pods 10 rockets per side, due to MTOW limitations) 3- ability to rotate the Pilot and CPG fans side-to-side (the brackets they are mounted on allow for this movement, along with translational movement, and in the front seat when you line up the gunsight with the bore sight the gunsight and cockpit fan physically conflict with one another, the blades clipping though part of the CPG's gunsight, this would also mean it wouldn't get in your way so much) 4- the ability to remove the PZU (PyleZashchitnoe Ustroystvo) dust filters (i have no idea if this would effect engine performance, intuition tells me it would only slightly, and it would allow the engines to be damaged by dust, the main reason i ask for it is because it looks cool and there are many photos of Mi-24P flying in Russia without PZU even in modern times) 5- PKT/RPK/AK-74 door gunner options with 1985 period correct clothing (PKT, RPK and AK-74 are all more historically accurate to the Mi-24 than the Kord (time wise the Mi-24P came out in 1981 and the Kord in 1998), as well as the PKT, RPK and AK-74 would allow Hind crews to not only carry more rounds of ammunition for the same weight and space in the cargo bay as well as it would allow Hind crews to have Door gunners on both sides at the same time, meaning the door gunners would be more effective against infantry and light targets (wider angles of fire), also as the PKT, PKM and AK-74 fire off the window mounts it would mean that the crew in the cargo bay would be more protected) (period correct kits for the older guns would be nice instead of modern 6B Ratnik kit (2013) on the Kord gunner) 6- remove the door gunner payload and artificial angle limitations (there is no reason i shouldn't be able to load GUV-8700 or Rocket pods on the in-board pylons while having door gunners, just dont shoot at your own weapons and you still have a large angle of fire, around where the pylon mounted weapon is, also the Mi-24's Kord gun mounts get artificially restricted when you load weapons on the wings, it doesn't just stop you from aiming the Kord at the weapons but also at the ground and sky below and above the pylon mounted weapons, effectively stopping you from aiming rearward) 7- Kord PSO scope (as it seem the Kord isnt going any where, nor should it, i think we should get a PSO scope option as door gunners commonly use PSO's on helo door guns, the mount is already modelled on the Kord in game and it would help on getting those long range shots) 8- P-50T Bomb (they are a training bomb, pretty useless in combat but can be used to mark targets and train bombing with, i think they would be cool to have and wouldn't be much effort to add.) now for the less reasonable but still possible features that would make the Hind feel more alive and add to immersion 1- Soviet Field binoculars for the Pilot and CPG (so they can spot targets at longer ranges, just a simple 3d model of a binocular case in the cockpit, click on it and boom you have bino's up at your face like the NVG's so you can see father out) 2- CPG able to use AK-74U out the window/hatch (seems the Kiowa is getting it, it doesn't seem that far out of the realm of possibility, it wouldn't add that much but it would add some great laughs when flying with friends) 3- 3D NS-430 for the front and/or rear seat (potentially as a payed addon like the rest of the 3D NS-430's, it would be a nice to have for post 2001 afghan flying (ANA got its Mi-24's around the same time the NS-430 was produced AFAIK)) 4- CPG kneeboard map and E6-B Pilot Flight Computer / Soviet Equivalent (it would be nice to give the CPG more to do, so i say give him a slide rule and a map, and make him navigate though the valleys and passes of Afghanistan) Now for a few Pics explaining some of the things i mentioned in the above image we can see the window mounts for the PKV/RPK/AK-74 door guns, it would be lovely to have a door gunner on each side at the same time, also you can see one of the dome lights i mentioned on the roof the above 2 images are examples of 1 ATGM being carried on each side, the top image is in Syria and the bottom image is in Afghanistan (i have many more images and you can find many more with a simple search, in the image above you can see a Mi-24P (i think) with out PZU's, looks lame doesn't it. in the above image you can see a Mi-8 with the blade tip lights turned on (i couldn't find a pic of the Mi-24 with the incandescent), instead of being short separate 5 lights the lights should be a solid disk in the above image we can see a Mi-24 armed with P-50T's in the above image you can see the CPG fan conflicting with the window glass and the gunsight. in the above images we can see PKV door guns on the hind, these would be a lovely addition especially if we can get one on each side allowing us to fly through afghan valley's and shoot out of booth sides at insurgents at the same time, also it would allow us to carry a larger number of bullets so we would have longer durations of fire from the door guns making them more effective even if the rounds have lower/no explosive mass and less range in final, i think that is all, i might have forgot something, if you want more evidence of Mi-24's carrying one ATGM each side i have many photos and some videos ill happily provide in comment's, and if any one wants and extra detail about anything ill be happy to help, right, now off to fly the Mi-24 with a friend (an honourable mention, the L-166V, adlest having an option to show the physical thing with the cover over it for those sweet sweet soviet-afghan and UN screenshots and Missions)
  3. Hello all, On New Year's day I quietly released a multiplayer sandbox mission for the Mi-24 and other period Soviet aircraft. One week later and with almost 50 downloads and no complaints I am now feeling confident enough to announce it officially. The mission is a sandbox set in a fictional province of Afghanistan in October 1986. Most of the helicopters are based out of FOB 979, a remote base housing a battalion of airborne infantry. The helicopter detachment has been tasked with supplying and supporting the battalion and surrounding outposts in their operations. Players can patrol the 60x120km AO for any of the thousand-plus Mujahideen units. The vast majority of enemy units are infantry and technicals, though MANPADS are an increasing threat. Each is hand-placed and on a randomized spawn tied to a spawning system optimized for best performance. They are mostly hidden in towns but some can be found patrolling the roads or cleverly positioned on hilltops. I made a deliberate attempt to balance the mission mostly on realism, so if you are used to soloing objectives or carelessly flying around you will probably have a bad time. I think it will still be a refreshing change for people used to playing on servers with advanced SAMs and enemy air activity. In addition to patrolling the AO you can take part in one of the dozen tasks available through the F10 menu. Most of these will require one or more friends in the Mi-8 and additional Mi-24s to accomplish successfully. This mission is in beta because I do not have enough wingmen to test all of them, though I have extensively and repetitively reviewed each of their triggers. In addition to the Mi-8 and Mi-24 slots the mission also includes slots for the MiG-21, Su-25, L-39 and Combined Arms. If this sounds interesting, check out the linked mission and read the briefing to learn more. Enjoy! If you have feedback on the mission and want to make suggestions for further development please use this form. If you don't have a wingman or someone to share the cabin with, comment here, check out Hoggit, the Wingman Finder subreddit or the Wingman Finder discord server. This is a MULTIPLAYER-ONLY mission. Attempting to run it in singleplayer will not work.
  4. This is a tribute to one of the greatest artists to have ever lived, he is solely responsible for comic books and manga art, literally hundreds of years before anyone else. This is going to be tricky to line up but the bulk of the work is done, I expect to finish this before NYE.
  5. After today's patch DCS 2.9.1.48111 Open Beta - 16.11.2023, turning the pilot body on and switching between the seats puts a low-res reflection on the pilot's gunsight. Track file attached. I also cannot use "9K113 Aiming Profile - ON/OFF", I can't look into the scope in the front-seat, though this problem only occured for me and not for others. edit: Unable to use the scope unless control is given to Petrovich, before patch you were able to fly and use the periscope at the same time. Jumping between seats also kicks down the rudder pedal damper switch. Mi-24_gunsight_reflection.trk
  6. This video pokes a little fun at the military online training curriculums, but it does have some good info for pilots wanting to tackle multiplayer in DCS. Enjoy. **updated sound levels and made spelling corrections** Everyone will need to watch the video and get their certificate to their section leaders. 7. Welcome to Helldiver Chariot Company, Are you looking for a group that is flying soviet-style helicopters, with a focus on operating in a team based and tactical environment? You have found the right place. The company is made up of three platoons. KA-50 (Heresy), Mi-24 (Violence), Limbo (Mi-8). Together we fly different types of missions in a pvp or pve scenario. Our flight times are EU based and we mainly fly 1800Z+ Thursdays and saturdays are our main events. The flight time is approximately 3 hrs+. You can find more information on our Website (link below). What we are looking for: Cool, mature and dedicated helicopter pilots who want to immerse themselves deeply in teamplay and tactics. Our unit does not fly fixed wings, we still work together with fixed wings occasionally. There are a few blockers to eliminate before diving deep into teamplay and tactics, we assume and check off the following: Prerequesites: 18+ years of age or older no member of another virtual squadron able to attend the main events (Thurs./Sat.) Technical: able to start the AC "Cold & Dark" manually able to hover-check and hover-taxi knowledge of how to operate the radios able to conduct a tear-drop landing approach for FARPs (procedure will be provided) Module (Maps): persian gulf sinai syria Module (Helo): KA-50/ Mi-24/ Mi-8 It is not necessary but advised to at least own a second helo, if your main is the KA-50 since we also fly older Cold War settings. 8. This may seem quite pedantic in the overall scheme of things, and it is, but something I've always wanted is a more realistic sonic boom effect for the S-8 rockets passing by. There were a few videos I'd seen a couple years back of Mi-24s and Mi-28s in Syria, performing rocket strafes over-top someone who was filming them, and the cracking sound that came off those things was straight up terrifying; Kinda like the effect you get from those all too well-known A-10 strafe videos, but a lot more potent, and at a lower pitch frequency. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, I cannot for the life of me find any of those clips, so this post is also a bit of a callout to anyone who has a video link of any S-8 strafes where the camera is somewhere between the helicopter and its target. All that said, the new sounds we've got for the actual launch of rockets, as well as their impact are night and day compared to what they were. Really enjoying the Mi-24.
  9. Hello, I have preordered your Mi-24P and have flown it out a bit but I am having some issues when it comes to landing and hovering. Often I will begin to rapidly drop out of the sky without even knowing I was close to entering VRS. The issue is not with me dropping out of the sky. I know why and how to prevent it. The issue is that I have no feedback or shaking when I am about to do so. When I fly the Mi-8, the helicopter shakes a bit when I am close or when transitioning to a hover. The Mi-24P has no shaking whatsoever, almost like I am gliding, entirely weightless. I understand that the Mi-24 didn't give that much feedback when going into VRS unlike the Mi-8, but there should be at least a tiny bit of shaking as opposed to nothing at all. Please I hope you consider adding at least a tiny bit of shaking on-screen with Track-IR and possibly VR to make it as realistic as possible to a real Mi-24 which would also help me control and land the helicopter. Thank you.
  11. I'm attempting to make the ASP17 sight look a bit more realistic, it's not fully possible without writing specific shaders for it, but texture replacement seems to getting the job done at least part way there. This is a work in progress, as I'm not 100% satisfied by the current result, but feel free to share your opinion. Download: ASP17 - modified reticle And the real one:
  12. Default cockpit textures for the Mi-24P module are quite heavy - memory usage wise, both cockpits will take up whole 2GB of ones VRAM, and for some this might be too much. So I tried to optimize them, to limit the amount of VRAM take take, by rescaling textures that are not essential for graphical fidelity. In the mean time, also re-coloring them... because why not? The result are cockpits that take only half of the memory they used to, without any noticeable degradation in visual quality. For a week now many of you could try the Black English-language one, and I heard a lot of positives about the load times, and in some cases performance increase. So through the week I made also the Russian version of the black cockpit, as well as both in grey, and... RAL 5018 - which was a substitute for trying to match the factory turquoise paint used by Mil, by the European users. English language cockpits also have brightened engine fire lights, as by default they are dimmer than the Russian language one. Skins are made to be compatible with OvGME - just use that program to install the mods. If you don't use that program, just unpack the .zi archive, and move the 'Liveries' folder, to your DCS directory in Saved Files location. Then choose new cockpit paint in game Options -> Special -> Mi-24. Update 2021-09-27: All cockpits updated to be compatible with newly added texture layers. Update 2021-06-21: Russian language cockpits updated for the warning panel lights to display properly. 13. Hello, does anyone happen to know where I can find the ammo counter for the 30mm gun and gun pods and rockets? The MiG-21bis has an ammo counter and so does the Mi-8 so I would think the Mi-24 would also have one, but no matter how hard I look I can not find an indicator showing how much ammo is left in the cockpit. Does anyone know?
