Yup, the gun sight symbology takes precedence over the radar scan symbology. As mentioned above, you can switch weapons to anything else if you're not actively shooting and want the visual feedback....

Shouldn't they drop on their own as pressure bleeds down? The inner doors on the P-51 work like that and take a few minutes to droop after shutdown.
