The "holier than thou" attitude of F4 fanbois is exactly what made me split from F4 community (long time ago, it's a long-time plague). See the comments on linked thread above.
IMHO you should go LO:FC if you're looking for a good Air to Ground experience, old style.
I don't play A2A enough, I think both sims have their strong points (true multi-platform for LO, better EM environnement for F4, but LO coming back there, better F16 cockpit and avionics for F4, if I go quick)
Campaign is winner for F4
Flight models, I felt better with the original LO ones, and FC models definitely won it for me, F4 felt too... responsive and automatic (I don't know how to express it). It's a non-true pilot PoV, so it's only feeling. FC challenging FM though add much to the sim.
Graphics, well, nothing new, LO > F4, now the question is, does it matter? For A2G missions, CAS style, definitely. Has soon as you skip out radar as your primary sensor, you'll find that graphic becomes a central points in realism. If you stay focused on radar, with outside vision limited to your mav' seeker shown in right MFD, then sure, graphics is cool, but not that important. If your eye really becomes your primary sensor, then suddenly... That's why modelling CAS planes is a very good decision by ED.

Ermm, Apache?:icon_conf
Mmmh, yes, Apache, like in "West ground attack chopper" ;)
And like pointed earlier, all this is "would be", there's no "fact", just rumors and speculations. Not even sure that Tank Killers will be ever born, or even that's it's really planned :p
-
AFAIK, tank killers would be a ground attack simulator, featuring A10, Su25(T), Ka-50, and Apache, upgraded to top ED technology (AFM and all) and probably some other new goodies.

I was about to say the blue color reminded me furiously of Havoc pit (like seen in EEAH :) )lol this is Mi-28 cockpit.Mistake in my book (printing error) :icon_redf -
Asking for new free keys is exactly for this case where you change your hardware. No need to pay twice.

Another thing that is important now that we're really getting down to earth is that the trees must become objects... now that will be a real FPS killer... or maybe they'll do it like in IL-2 that the whole forest is one "collision zone" and you die as soon as you go down in the trees.
That would be a shame though as you should be able to hide among the trees.
And as it works now you can't as at range the trees aren't visible, but you are :icon_neut
Razorworks didi it the same way with EEAH/EECH. You can keep forest edge with individual trees, though, and individual trees at some place, etc... to make the forest "block" only reachable from above, this would solve the "can't hide among the trees" issues. You couldn't hide in the middle of a forest, that's all (and that's realistic ;) )

It just ocurred to me that with these six degrees of freedom, the zoom function could be redundant. If it can be set up so that moving closer to the screen zooms the view sufficiently, that could replace the zoom wheel on my X45. How about that! :-)
Isn't it already the case?

"It's just ADDING an F-16"
Where something else and never seen before could have been done instead. That's our point ;)
But the documentation issue kind of blast the whole argument apart. You do accurate modeling when you have acurate data.

PoV from a non Flanker user, new to ED world with LO :
I don't mind the jets modelled being US or RU or anything.
The thing I like is that they are rarely modelled.
An improved A-10 on par with current Su-25T model-wise would (will?) be awesome.
The focus on ground mission, CAS, etc... you find in LO/FC is alsosomething unique that I really like (being more of an infantry guy, playing OFP).
LO becoming another F15/16/18 sim ... well, why? Is this really needed?
Other AI controlled planes in LO would be better (I can't refrain to point to Mirage :P )
If the ground life is on par with fly sim for the Ka-50 sim, then chopper sim market is also another thing to dig . And not with Apache! Sry guys, this one is also a classic in simulation. Mi-24? AH-1?
But like said above, decision is probably already made. And there's a unfortunately very valid reason for this : available documentation .
*kicks Dassault in the nuts for this*

Haaaa, Internet.
You post 30 pics of your trip in Russia and plane testing and all, and 1 pic with a chick in it.
The latest gets discussed in 90% of the thread ;)
Nice trip, we definitely need more Fulcrum information

I think realism is more than accurate cockpits. It also involves realistic tactics and doctrine. I just don't see how an army aviation unit can play a primary role in a modern air combat simulation without significantly modifying the role, appearance and tactics of the game's ground units.
And, apart from infantry soldiers, what would you require to be put in 1.2 to enhance ground aspect?
-
Back in front of my computer .
About infantry in other sims, I clearly remember mentions of AK-47 shots on my F-16 in F4 debriefings, and seeing the shots going up trying to hit me.
EECH also modelled troop insertion with Hind and Blackhawk.
You can assign a paradrop mission to C-130 in JFA-18 editor.
I'm not asking for a complete infantry simulation. Just something more than current Igla launcher.
-
The only infantry currently is this static stinger guy. I can't picture an army made only of this, sry. That's what I meant.
OFC you shoot a stinger from static position, but AA people are not the only guys in the armies ;)
and being in a chopper means being closer to these guys, seeing them more often, etc... than when in a plane
-
Only seeing static stinger guys will seem truely wrong, imho. Immersion killer
-
it is an insanely good question :)
If yes, what feature can they have? Parachutes dropping from air transport?
-
Hmmm ... I've flown model helicopters ... but I have no idea what a reverse throttle is?
Throttle giving more power when you pull it, less when you push it ;)

=> whisper_ffw06@yahoo.fr , if not too long I may be able to help a bit...

how big is this?
the best way would probably be to directly ask in C6 LO forums for people willing to translate :)
We may be french, but some of us can speak english ;)
EDIT : I forgot to thank you for thinking about this for us froggies
-
Tip : fire in ripple, redirect to a new target with missile in-flight. This way you don't have to wait all the missile flight time before launching another one.
5 seconds between each missile is a good start.

Can't LUA scripting help you in this matter?
-
it is an add-on, not a patch

"I have no use for russain birds"
In which case I agree, FC is probably not for you, and you'll find it expensive. Unfortunately, ED did model russian birds, and ask people to pay for this. The logical answer in this case : don't buy the product, it's built on things you don't like (ie russian birds). You can't decently ask them to lower the price for you because you won't use Su-25T.
-
IMHO, FC wouldn't have been the same with externall distribution.

We need M6 Linebacker for US SAM system, it's becoming more and more used in US Army if I'm not mistaken.
It's a M2 Bradley fitted with AA missiles.
US tried ADATS but did not use it, only Canadians do today.
And we need soldiers, moving ones :)

They confused Jane's, the books, and Jane's, the progammers, perhaps? ;)
