  1. From the info I have yes, you should be able to change L&S with the pinky. To exit RAID, you would either hit the RAID button again, Reset OSB, the range drops below 5nm. I think there's one or two other conditions that would return display to TWS.

I would have to test it again but I think I was able to switch L&S with TDC (in current build)

Beamscanner seems to be a good reference for anything radar related. He might chime in.

  2. Hornet v JF17 gunzo

The last 3 minutes of the fight against AI JF17. Well, this was my UFO encounter:lol: It took 7 minutes and I only managed 4 high deflection shots causing a fuel leak. When the AI punched out I was finally able to cut his wing off... This thing wasn't bleeding any energy and on top of that every time I tried to line up for a shot I flew through his jet wash... somehow.

I have to try it online against a JF17 full fidelity FM.

  3. I was using the rank for reference. The lead will have his ranks, the wingman might have different ranks, since he might be closer to different targets. In the simplest way, you can coordinate via radio comms like "I'll take the two on the left, you take the two on the right". And then you designate L&S and DT2 and you can be sure that you will launch on your intended targets, even if the rankings change in the meantime.

Going on a tangent: Also, swapping between the L&S and the DT2 allows you to launch a second missile against the same target in a hurry. Shoot at the first, shoot at the second, wait a few seconds and launch another AMRAAM at the first target.

I'm sure there are proper tactics developed around the use of L&S and DT2 which I am most certainly unaware of, but the way I see it, it's very useful for sorting targets and ensuring that you will be able to reliable swap between two specific targets, even if the situation changes.

Well... I don't know how far ED is going into DL stuff circa '80s and '90s. I remember looking at some docs floating around online in the LOMAC days. Mostly for Viper (MLU and others) but also couple of other jets. Amraams had "buddy numbers" within the division or whatever number of jets were involved... don't remember that part. The attack was coordinated over DL.

  4. thanks guys.

i guess my question is... how do i get rid of the target square on the HUD.

    i have tried:

    - undesignate switch

    - changed from TWS to RWS

    - selecting air to ground mode

    - turning off DL and the radar

    - cycle through missile and gun modes

no matter what i do i am still have the flashing square on the HUD

Press "reset" on the right side of Attack display. It clears and resets bunch of things including L&S and DT2

  5. Perhaps slightly of the precise topic but can someone tell me what is the point of having the DT2 as such. I had a quick look at the new TWS implementation yesterday on the standard AMRAAN training mission and I’m not sure of the benefit of this when you could just as easily sequence through the prioritised targets one by one firing at will.

I’m guessing there’s a lot of strategy in the use of TWS that is not readily apparent to us weekend warriors, I’m sure all this will become more apparent in time. I would hope that when the full functionality of the radar and SA are rolled out there is a larger and more precise series of instructions/tutorials that are available.

I don't select DT2 unless I want specific tgt. on the second shot. From L&S, cycle through others using pinky. If you have L&S and DT2 pessing the pinky will cycle between them back and forward until you use cursor.

  6. Try to briefly get a STT lock. From there- TWS should be on PB10 (instead of the usual PB5). It will go to TWS with AUTO scan centering activated (which is how it's done in real life)

Yes, I remember Superbug sim... that's the way it worked there. It doesn't here. In SB you simply had to select AUTO and the scan center would follow L&S in az and elev.

I like to use manual elev. control, from the habit I guess (in SB)… just watch the bracket limits v. L&S or the group.

btw, just did a test on 8 target (all within 1000 feet of alt. difference from each other). I was at 25k, the tgt. group was at 6k. Fired 10 Spamrams in rapid succession - all connected... and I got DFC for that:D

  7. Recently I (and few others) had to resort to alternate ways of launching from the boat.

I always have the wind over deck between 28 - 30 knots (lined up with BRC) and lots of times my Hornet's back end shifts sideways after the cat hookup and possibly causing cat "suspend".

My launch bar issues were described in another thread that I started few days ago. I'm certain lots of folks here operate from a moving carrier and should be aware of these issues.

For now... I don't even waste my time on going to any of the catapults. Flaps full, trim ~17, taxi to the ramp, point the nose at the bow, full blowers and I'm doing 135 kts past the bow (4 mavs + Tpod on board) while listening to "hold position" calls from the tower.

    High hopes for tomorrow? :music_whistling:

  8. On a lighter side of things... In early LOMAC trying to aerobrake an F15C was a struggle. The flight model for landing was "scripted" so... once the mains hit the runway the nose gear dropped shortly after and required a bit of a fight with the stick to force aerobraking:joystick:

I got tired of this and landed my Eagle like a Hornet:D

  9. I should probably stay out of "in the know" threads but what the heck... for GBU's and other guided munitions... no explanation needed (still the release envelope is effected by wind)

For the dumb bombs... your ground track and speed are probably the most significant factors for FCR calculations and yea... can't be perfect, the misses still happen for various reasons.

  10. We could argue about the paid module back and forth. But the only thing I'll add as my opinion, is that some features such as radio comms should be in the base DCS world, not on a payed updade. All the other features... fair enough.

I am curious how his is going to play out in MP. People who don't have the module, won't spawn on the carrier, easy enough I supose. But what about landing? They won't get comms...Ok... what if they decide to go rogue? Explode on impact? Wire will allways fail to arrest their aircraft?

Hmm, I haven't seen any official comments on how this interaction will play out.

I know one thing though... it's not gonna be me! I've skipped a dinner at a restaurant and set aside couple of my monthly allowances... I am getting the SUPERCARRIER:music_whistling:

  11. I've had no problems with the Hornet's ground handling.

Is it possible that your rudder is being bound to another set of control inputs? I notice this happens from time to time. You set it for Axis Z but it's also bound to some something on your throttle. Have a look at the control panel to make sure there are no other bindings.

I've always found it manageable although initially I had a hard time getting used to it. I remember not that long ago... with a 5 mile/hr wind from my 2 o'clock made the jet act like a wind sock. (Full load of Mk 82's and a c/line tank. It's a lot better now. I'm using crappy Saitek rudders but they still work OK.

  12. Hey SPS48A,

I'm sure you're already putting all this advice to use and doing the case 1 by the numbers... perhaps most numbers:smilewink:

Just wait till ED gets to finish the FM (weight/drag v. power... not spool up/spool down time - that part is not so bad - but how long it takes before you notice any change in glide path). I've seen number of reports on weight related issues with different loadouts. Also, the FCS will know what to do when you roll out on down wind at 800 feet and 190 knots or so with flap switch down to full, nudge the stick down to descend to 600 and trim for AOA... or when you bolter (at least 2 wheels hitting the deck) and you're climbing happily without going vertical (flaps switch full down of course). It'll be a lot easier then, after having mastered the current beast.

All this is just hearsay... from the horse's mouth:D I've never flown the real Hornet:cry:

  13. The ship makes the burble. That's 25 knots of wind generated by the forward movement of e carrier, which should of course happen despite the atmospheric winds being zero.

You never want the boat speed to be zero for flight quarters. You want the boat to be going as fast as sea room and state will allow to maximize the end speed off the catapult and minimize the approach speed (which leads to an increase in time for pilots behind the boat to make corrections). Example: If a Hornet is going 140 KIAS and the ship is doing 30 knots, then the net approach speed is 110 knots. Similarly, that 30 knots of boat speed is free airspeed at the start of the cat stroke - which is great if you're launching heavy.

Well it would be nice if someone from ED staff confirmed this is part of their work on this feature or something else. "Else" could also be somewhere on my end;)

  14. I tried few more times with or without wind... sometimes I see it even with 0 wind (boat at 25 knots) I could see a slight wobble. I'm OK with a slight wobble from a roll out, what gets me is a slip to the left when I banked right. The highest headwind I set was 5 knots (WOD 30 knots) lined with BRC so perhaps it is some weird wind effect. It's more pronounced when the jet is light weight. I think it's also time to check my controls setup.

PS. Well,,, could be related to this little yaw CAS "gem":D :

  15. I've done only 4 traps after the latest update and on each of them I noticed some weird gust of wind or something right before the trap. On 3 of these traps I was able to scoot over back to centerline but on the last one I got blown to the left quite a bit and trapped way off center.

It could be related to my Saturday night :drink: type of flying but still... something felt weird. Anyone else noticed any difference?

    A sideways burble?:smilewink:

Anyways, here's last few seconds of that approach:
