  1. Thanks for very informative post :) But I think you're approaching very complicated to the sim. It's not. Every aircraft except the flyables use very very basic flight models, because they were not important at that point. Even DCS aircraft haven't taken big steps about this as far as I know. Our best bet is an air superiority aircraft module like Su-27 or F-15 so that ED will consider having realistically modelled AI aircraft. Lock-On was a fabulous simulation indeed, but it wasn't a very detailed or realistic one. That's why ED has started DCS series, and all we can do is wait now. Don't forget to nag them regularly about better AI and AI FM modelling too :D EDIT: Do you have a blog where you post these kind of articles? I really really enjoyed reading them :joystick:
  2. He can select weapons, and shoot the gun, so the master arm is definitely on. He just misses "Release Weapons" ;) Btw, nobody RTFM's. That's a fact :D
  3. There are two seperate keys for firing weapons. First is "Fire cannon" key, which has already been mapped to your joystick's first button(trigger). The second is "Release Weapons" key which is used to fire other weapons(rockets, missiles, bombs). Check your controls to find where your "Release Weapons" command is mapped to. It should be default to Enter key if I'm not mistaken.
  4. Are you thinking of a similiar thing for Black Shark?
  5. Too high visible range or a driver problem then? Anyway, current DCS engine is pretty old and sometimes does strange things when it comes to frame rate. I tried to help. I hope you'll install it again sometime :)
  6. Haha, "impressive loadout" fail here :D
  7. 1024 cockpit is too high, I suggest 512. Also, you didn't mention if your "Fullscreen" setting is checked in the graphics options or not. It comes with "off" as default. Also, set a medium resolution like 1440x900 to be sure. I suggest taking all your in-game settings to lowest settings to get a stable and fluid framerate, and then work your way up. Setting everything high and then lowering one by one doesn't help in most situations. Set especally "Visible Range" to medium or low. Check if you have antialiasing or anisotropic filtering on in the Catalyst Control Center. Be sure to use this tool for affinity: http://code.google.com/p/dcsbsaffinitytool/
  8. I guess in DCS Russia Colonel reaches you :P
  9. Which in-game settings are you using(resolution, texture settings, AA, AF)? Maybe you have the cockpit texture resolution set too high so that you have such a low framerate. Also, check that "Fullscreen" option is marked in the options. Otherwise it results in a massive FPS loss(half for me). I have a much slower system than yours, but I can run DCS fluidly with 20-60 FPS.
  10. Perhaps money off coupons for TrackIR and TH2GO and such related hardware?
  11. You can get your original sound back on Youtube by doing these instructions:
  12. I do have TrackIR, but I haven't even bothered to use it when I first got the sim. It's nice to have all that 6DOF fancy freedom, but IMO it's not an absolute necessity for Ka-50 as most exaggerate. Remember, you're not flying a supersonic dogfight monster fighter, but a relatively slow and a heavier helicopter. You're mostly going to engage stationary or slow ground targets from a stable hover position so target tracking isn't that much of a problem. There are some switches in the cockpit that you can't see without moving your head, but some key binds solve those problems. Of course, when you use TrackIR it adds so much to immersion :) But still doesn't worth 150bucks for head movement in a helicopter sim IMO. Though if you play IL-2, F4 or LOMAC and want to have a future-proof equipment you may be tempted to get it. But IMO for BS, not a necessity.
  13. I don't think it has such a steep learning curve, at least getting the helicopter to fly and use it's systems. You can get the hang of cold-start in about 1 hours if you watched the producers note and have the checklist written down. After 3-4 tries, you don't even need to look at the checklist anymore. It's all about getting familiar, and IMO Ka-50 cockpit is well organised. Combat systems don't involve so much fiddle, as the most things are already automated. You can start shooting Vikhrs in no time :) ABRIS and navigation systems on the other hand, are very deeply modelled and sucks a big deal of time. I'd say first learn to start the heli, fly the heli and usage of combat systems and then jump into navigation part. What I find really hard to get accustomed to is constant fighting with the autopilots. Trimming is a constant necessity, but I find the way it's implemented awkward(if you don't have a FF stick). I always have the urge to turn it off when I want to do precise flying, but it's almost unflayable. Flight director helps though. Of course after learning the helicopter, there's so much to do like combat tactics, wingman employment and IMO getting those right require some constant flying and lots of time :)
  14. God, what took you so long? I was already blasting with my Vikhr after 3 hours :D
  15. Maybe you could disable HT for DCS?
  16. You mean you guys are already testing A-10? :)
  17. My god, it must be the RL equavalent of a WoW addiction. Ferrari should definitely give him a medal :D I wonder if anyone working on a Su-27 model with working engines and avionics :P
  18. I believe he "purchased" it from ED website and he doesn't see the download, he probably didn't order the Russian boxed version ;D
  19. Hello, Matt Wagner and others said numerous times that they were thinking about a Steam version, is there any new news on that?
  20. The thing is Windows already assigns system programs and programs like Firefox, Media Players to all cores without you interfering. Doing the affinity trick for DCS doesn't change that.
  21. My laptop is pretty much similiar to yours and runs BS at a blazing pace(30-50fps without too much action) :) C2D T7100(1.8Ghz) 2Gb RAM 8400M GS Windows 7 Although most my details are off, I'm using a 1280x800 resolution and a TrackIR along with it. I'm not even using the affinity trick yet :) Your CPU should be of some problem though, BS is CPU intensive and if you really have 1.4GHz you're gonna have problems. I suggest moving to Vista or better yet Windows 7(free beta). On desktop IMO you'll be tearing your hair off :D P4 2.0GHz is ancient by today's standarts, along with X1300. I don't even mention 1Gb RAM :)
  22. Yes they will still refuel even if you drop a nuke on that base in Lock-On :P
  23. Well during activation process I'm sure you must have noticed it? :D
