  1. Current open beta is the first time I see volumetric clouds look decent in VR and not some glossy sprite with double vision. Got to fly some more in various weather but this is a first.
  2. I was pulling my hair out on landing the Mig 29 for some time, then I realised that I was coming down with to high AoA on touch which was slamming the rear against the runway causing the plane to violently pitch forward and bounce all over the place. Once I got used to nosing more down to what I had been doing, she came down in a fairly civilised manner. In the air she is a hoot to fly with great power to weight ratio but one has to be easy on the throttle as to avoid chewing through one's fuel load too quickly.
  3. MAC and DCS can compliment each other in many areas. I don't see why they should be completely separate from each other. Fragmenting the player base is not a good idea in a niche market.
  4. The Black Art of Pimax VR Optimizing.:megalol: Recent experiments with My 8K and DCS / Il2 has lead me to understand that SteamVR Video Render setting should be set low if you want high frame rates. Render resolution can be bumped up with SteamVR App Render settings so say you have Video Render at 20%, run App Render at 300 or 400% With DCS you can also use the internal SS setting to the same effect as SteamVR App Render Resolution setting. Don't ask me how it all comes together but I have experimented and swapped roles of Video and App Render settings maintaining the same final target resolution and when ever I have Video Render Setting high in SteamVR FPS go out the window. I am still experimenting with settings for the 8K but for Il2 I run PiTool Render 1.25, Normal FOV, SteamVR Video 44% and App 300% Aim is to get frames in the 50's on the ground which will get higher once in the air but with decent resolution. RTX owners can use FFR in DCS which works best on Large FOV and high render resolutions. Can't wait for the 8KX to arrive and more development in both DCS and Il2. p.s. still trawling through this thread but thought I'd give my 2 cents. Edit. After more testing - SteamVR App SS% has no effect. Seems to be the combo of PiTool SS, SteamVR Video SS and DCS VR SS which work. On the flip side FFR works well in Large FOV mode. C'est la vie.
  5. Yes, a very Merry Christmas to you guys celebrating Orthodox Christmas.
  6. Yeah - no it doesn't. Editing the value in default.vrsettings is still required if you want to have your headset exceeding the target render resolution limit of 4096 This can be found in your Steam folder under sub directories Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\resources\settings It also sucks that you have to keep an eye on it if SteamVR updates as sometimes it will overwrite the changes one has made. Another thing, I myself thought, hmm Pimax 8K so 2 x 4K screens which means I should dial in 4096 per eye for native resolution in VR. I learnt the hard way that this is not the case. A few factors come into play here be it the 5K with 1440p screens or the 8K with 4K screens but upscaling the 1440p signal. 1. There is the Lens profile to take into account. This will warp the 2D image to fit the design of your lens so that what you view through the lens looks geometrically correct. 2. There is the Area Mask which is the overlap of the 2 separate screens which have binocular overlap to provide the 3D Stereo image for us. 3. There is image offset within the screen which allows a little room on the total display area of the screen to allow for horizontal adjustment for IPD and vertical adjustment which can help us users dial in the image based on head shape. I have +1 IPD offset and 1.5 for vertical offset which deals with my neanderthal brow. Anyway with the 8K I am finding Pitool 1.5 with Large FOV and 2x the SteamVR recommendation for target res is good. That with DCS VR at 1 and VR option set in the graphics options. Still playing around and to be honest - the 8K ain't the sharpest tool on the block. CAn't wait till my 8K-X lands.:pilotfly:
  7. Bet it is those 120's that get you :) Learning painfully and slowly how to counter them but now that I get through those, I have the IR missiles to deal with LOL. It's fun though as my burning wreak of a F15 tumbles down to the ground in Nevada after taking out 2 Su25's and 2 Su27's Been at it for 2 weeks now. Got to learn more, much more but my Chaf and Flare switches are getting a great work out.
  8. After dipping my toes into the DCS FC world - I too am excited for MAC and what it will bring. Hope there are also a good compliment of training missions for different aircraft to help. Find them quite useful on the Su25 and 27. Also like how well DCS runs on my system with VR and it looks like ED are on a good path with future engine developments. Just have to learn how to use the systems effectively in combat instead of panic and going locked up when my warning systems go off. LOL
  9. Limitations / Strengths of the specific systems employed by the various aircraft represented in the package given their model and year of service introduction. It's all relative but accurate representation even if we get simplified operation of said systems.
  10. @draconus: Not trying to ask for detailed aircraft systems but more an accurate simulation of the systems in operation. i.e. weapons, flight model, Auto Pilot, Radar ECM systems strengths and weaknesses and lastly - AI to use the same systems modeled as the Virtual Pilot. Also updated 3D models for cockpit and 4K textures for cockpit. ))
  11. As a new comer it is sad to hear the AI has a simplified flight model and I noticed those pesky F5E's were holding energy in close fights whilst my Su27 bled out. Had to work with the Su's stall and helmet targeting to get them down. My WW2 fix has AI flying the same flight model as player and also with Pilot Physiology modelling as well. It makes for quite a different offline experience. Would be great to see something similar with Jets. At the moment though - I am just seeing it as a means to come to terms with weapons systems and learn them well before thinking of any online flying. Not that familiar with BVR fighting and modern electronics.
  12. Great - then this thread is mute.
  13. Agreed - Uniform Scale in cockpit building is a must. To have to manually adjust IPD for each module due to inaccurate or inconsistencies between cockpit scale is not good and then has issues as mentioned before of throwing out other objects scaling beyond the cockpit.
  14. Would love to see accurate modeled performance of aircraft systems modeled in the style of FC3 with updated 3D cockpits and 4K textures. I have a hell of a time in VR with the Su27 cockpit determining what the analogue gauges are doing compared to flying VR in Il2 for instance. Then add to the stable more recent variants of aircraft like 15E, Super Hornet, Mig 35, Su30 and Su35, throwing in the Euro Fighter, J20, Su 57, F22 and F35 (which should be easy as it just needs to sit in the Hangar ;) Anyway -a wish list for future development and hopefully with the FC3 style of operating the aircraft it doesn't step on too many Top Secret toes.
  15. It will be interesting too see what work has been done on the existing FC aircraft. I dipped my ties into DCS by purchasing FC3 not because of "easy" modelling but because of the aircraft it had on offer. I would hope that the Su27 gets some update love as it is looking a bit out of place compared to the other cockpits there. Also would hope, that even though it is not a study based "Sim", the aircraft represented have the same flight models, and avionics modelling as their more detailed clickable cockpit brethren. I'm getting into DCS for the Jets but like the simplified approach. There is still a ton to learn with the avionics, flight handling and so on. Not to mention being a VR pilot, I am in a process of trying to map my X52 Pro with as close to possible across the board mappings so that it is easier to jump from one aircraft to another. Pity View Centering (button 5) does not seem to be mapable as it is quite needed when my headset suffers from gyro drift. Anyway, DCS is performing quite well and MAC looks like a purchase from me too. BAck to learning LOL.
