  1. Very interesting stuff Rhen - well done Sir! Wow ... so, a 15 should get to 40k' in about 60% of the distance when flying the -1 profile. It'll be interesting to see how this 'slight' change pans out when flying at 40k' in terms of available power ... where I tend to play despite the problems with TWS. Yo-Yo ... Given your work on this I hope ED go far!
  2. I think the video that Mustang posted talks about an A-10 being shotdown while tasked against a ring of SAMs ... seems bonkers given the number of HARMs that were fired! It seems very unsutable ... but hey, thats war, things always get used where they are nt suitable.
  3. Where did this happen? I thought the F-14 (despite being my all-time favourite fighter) wasn't that good as at ACM? Or was it just down to crew training?
  4. Back to the screen caps: any chance of seeing what improvements there are planned for the terrain model to support low flying, slow, contra-rotating bladed targets? More building types, rough ground, river banks, scrub, bush, better bruning vehicle effects, higher density terrain mesh etc.
  5. Which model of 'winder do they use? The excuse of Rapier was that it got battered on the trip down! Good job the AIM-9L the US provided worked as advertised! Certainly the naval SAMs had trouble: Sea Dart with launcher sensor switches salting up (funny that on a boat at sea!) and Sea Wolf computers resetting. Oh and Sea Cat which was just plain crap!
  6. Seriously ineffective in its one real test ...
  7. At 40k+ you get a noticable jump in perforance when you drop the tank ... I wonder how well those semi-recessed AMRAAMs are modelled compared to AA-10/12s on wing/under fuse hard-points which look as draggy as hell!
  8. Yes, I was a t Farnborough one year and 6 Harriers hovered in a line in front of the crowd ... kids were running, women screaming, grass burning ... it was GREAT!
  9. Due to contrail modelling this is a big no-go area in LO! Typical!
  10. Lets be honest ... not many of us fly F-15s, A-10, Mig-29s and Su-27/33s either! Or any sort of fast jet ... If only. But we all love to speculate! There are many things tough that can be gleaned for good research, discussion and a load of that rare item - common sense!
  11. Perhaps the thing has such a rotation rate for the whole a/c it doesn't need it ...
  12. Interesting ... I'll give it a go. See it if improves my 25 landings!! Thanks for posting.
  13. Cheers Yo-Yo, Perhaps its easier with rudder pedals (I use a rocker switch on the HOTAS), but the clearence between the ground and air-brake seems very small, any wobble and they touch ... must need loads of spares.
  14. Not an upgrade ... just a few tweaks - perhaps a bit more speed? Ahh the 'Next Project' ...
  15. Is the 25T so unstable on the ground? Seems like applying the wheel brakes causes it to veer off course and touch those air brakes on the ground - and then it starts cartwheeling down the runway! Are the air brakes supposed to be used in landing at all? The 25 seems to have less of a problem ... Now ED have done some work with official data on the A-10, will we see any changes to the FM on that - seems like a dream in comparision to the 25 and 25T!
  16. I've had one for years (since the early F4 days). The 2 switches on the throttle have come loose ... I glued the 3 pos switch in place and that fixed the problem and next time I have to strip it, I'll do the same with the speed brake switch. The only other problem is the pot in the throttle died ... bought a standard replacement and fitted it ok. That was a few years ago and I've played a fair bit of LO since. I couldn't justify the cost of the hall effect ones! I really like my Cougar ... really solid bit of kit! I twist rudder would be nice ... I haven't got the setup for peddles and using a switch is nowhere near as good.
  17. Well, I've just checked my system and I have 9 DIFFERENT msvcrt.dll's loaded on my laptop! Strangly, the one in c:\games\lockon has been renamed (I guess by me) as .dll.old. So, I guess the one LO is using is v7.0.2600.2180 from c:\windows\system32 How about searching your HDD making sure you are running that one ... either from the LO directory or from windows\system32. Having said that, playing for 3hours non-stop is pretty good going! My system grinds to a halt (runs out of available RAM) way before that - probably due to a memory leak somewhere in LO.
  18. To disable file protection: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/222473
  19. Thats a feature of XP ... you can disable it if necessary.
  20. Have you read any of his work? It has been said he was one of the 'fathers' the the F-16 ... heavily responsibile for its design. Yes, he didn't get everything he wanted - the AF kept adding features that added weight! His theories started way before the Mig-21 and 17 ... he was a Sabre pilot!
  21. Interesting read ... thanks for posting. Since reading a biog of Boyd a few years ago I'd been looking for some of his docs. The 'Aerial Attack' study is a bit heavy for me ... I guess its PhD in being a figther pilot stuff!
  22. I don't think there is any evidence an Exocet was shot down in the Falklands War ... 3 hit, a few were decoyed and fell into the sea, and gunners fired vast amounts of 20mm, 40mm, 4.5" and SeaCats at some - maybe claiming hits. SeaWolf was the only system able to hit a low flying SSM in that conflict and never got a shot. I think in GW1 (or 2 I can't remember which) a SeaDart took out a Silkworm ... thats a different level of threat all together.
  23. Well, they've had a go at wobbling bits of Scuds in the past, so I would think an ARM would be much slower and easier!
  24. Yes I know ... but that is only a small part of the model.
