  1. I really like this program. I followed the directions, found in the PDF, and I have had no problems at all. I have talked several simmers through the set up process. Amazing utility. Looking forward to compatibility for all AC! :)
  2. What if a program took the trk file and ran it to a selected point and saved it so players could enter the mission. The TRK file has all the info and if it could be fast forwarded and paused it may work. I have never tried it but can't you enter a trk file and select to fly it while it is replaying?
  3. This is really cool stuff. I didn't know IVAO did this.
  4. Having flown in helicopters for a few years I have been in the Nevada mountains for cross country NOE flights with and without NVGs. "There I was" RTB was called and we had perfect gas for the trip back. Doppler and hover checks were complete at the range pad after hot fuel. We knew the route. Slight drizzle and the base seemed lower. Good vis under the goo but rain was getting heavy. We were approximately 40 miles East of NAS Fallon. HAC decided to go up and transit IFR to marker. Main gearbox chip light went off as soon as additional torque was added to the percentage. Settled and decreased to 10 knots. Reapplied collective and no go on chips. Decision time. Set down in rocky terrain, turn around and get deeper in the woods, or fly heads down to open land. HAC was heads down, 2P was trying to see out the window. Rain, mist, and fog made it very scary very fast. By slowing to 30 knots, knowing the nav charts and trusting IFR, we made it back. Without the chip light we would have gained altitude above highest crest if possible, a lot if high peaks with the added 6000 ASL on the alt. We could have turned back to better conditions (big gamble) we could have flown over the top of lowest peak all on IFR. We could have set down on the range, provided we made it back, but it was deemed a safe route to push through. We had just enough vis to see about .2 to .3 miles off the nose which was enough. This future mission will be a great tool. An SH-60B was in this situation during a cross country to an airshow at Nellis. The helo flew straight into a mountain. All four crewmen ignored their instruments and group think took over. They were trusting what they were feeling, vertigo, rather than IFR. Under ideal conditions the guessers will give you an accurate forecast. If in a bad situation the human factor will always make it worse. IFR all the way. The redundancy will keep you from flying your aircraft into objects. During any inclement weather IFR applies. I was in a mission the other night and was transiting a high peak under poor visibility and my first instinct was to turn around, check ins, and proceed with caution. What amazes me is how guys that have never flown military airframes get it in sims. My wingy the other night had the same conditions and picked a reference point that he knew was clear for transit over the peak. He was able to get spotty vis over the peak but kept his nose towards his reference and made it over without incident. I love this community and the sim! Note on the chip light: A metal detection device that detects chips, flakes, and chunks of metal in the hydraulic filtering return system. The chip creates a short in the screen and lights the Chip Warning Detection. SOP is clearing the filter and performing an FCF (Functional Check Flight). If the chip clears, cleared for safe flight. Ours was a short due to the rain which is odd because it is very hard for water to get to it. Maintenance tried to A-799 it but it showed up on the FCF again. There is a lot left out and I am not writing novels here. Been at 8800 feet with dual engine failure and made it! That was in the TOFT at North Island though. In reality never got above 15 feet. :) There has to be some helo pilots or AWs out there with more stories!
  5. This really needs to be looked at. I have tried to manipulate missions based on previous flights but the triggers get messed up. This seems like a simple export deal but I am not knowledgeable enough to figure it out. It seems like we could have an external program running and hit a key command to export the current mission data. This would enhance the playability of this sim more than many realize. In my Squadron, we are discovering that having the ability to to join continually makes missions go for hours. WE LOVE IT! There was on Saturday where we were in BS for more than six hours. Please ED, help us make this possible. We are asking you to make us want to fly even more. How can you say no?
  6. Truly amazing. This community is fantastic as well. I can't even fathom what A-10C will be like. How will I balance the Shark and Warthog? It will be great to have that problem!
  7. I know a lot of simmers that are negative towards FC2 but love BS. If this patch is porked upon release it will not go over very well. Take your time fellas.
  8. Speed, I have a hard enough time finishing your previous missions. I will say that flying over that ridge the other night was pretty scary. I can't imagine flying through a valley with zero vis. What kind of speed are we talking about?
  9. Hey Speed, Missions inbound on Thursday for the 16th Training.
  10. Now there is no excuse to not try and get addicted to this awesome sim.
  11. Here you go. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=43361&highlight=dragons+missions http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=48142&highlight=dragons+missions My squad is getting ready to start training pilots in flying the Shark.
  12. It really is a great sim. I spent about the same time learning how to fly the Shark, barely. I am still learning and I have been flying for over a year now. It is truly a compliment when the chaps in my squad think I am good. I have so much more to learn. One of the things I love to do is the complete cold start by using the checklist. Not the scramble start but the full Monty. Right now I am trying to get a new era started for the 16th Flying Tigers ACCW by starting a dedicated BS squad. We are creating mission templates that are tailored for our unit. We have assigned FARPs that we will use as well. I am looking forward to A-10C and I have no intention of stopping flying BS. I love this sim and it is so much more than a game. Landing on a ship is a real skill. Good job! I consider the Dragon missions priceless in learning combat skills. They are works of art. Glad you are a part of a great community.
  13. Make them statics. Select the icon that looks like an old iron bridge and you will see from there.
  14. Crunch, Love the Avatar. Flying while rocking with Iron Maiden. Is there a better way? As for the patch. At first I was some what irritated, but what it has done for me is allow me the time to get settled into FC2. I have never flown it seriously. There is much to learn and now that I have, when the patch comes out I will be ready. Can't wait!
  15. I understand the environmental and cost cutting by issuing manuals in PDF/DOC format but how cool would it be to get the BS manual, in color, in the box? I remember looking at a new sim and if it didn't pass the weight test I most likely wouldn't get it. I do appreciate how much sims have evolved. I never got pass the basic flights for Falcon 3.0. I could barely run it my computer and there was not HOTAS in my life.
  16. My first sim that I was serious about. It brought me into the realm of real simulation. 1994 was the year. I loved the manual. I wish I had it today.
  17. I bought FC2 because of the patch. Mildly disappointing that it is not done yet. I am hoping it will be done before tomorrow. It would be great to fly it this weekend. On a positive note: I copied several BS missions into FC2 and they work. I had to change some of the planes to Player mode. What I am dreading is the patch will not work and all the hype will be for not. I also installed the runway mods from BS into FC2. This kind of cross compatibility is very promising.
  18. Looks much like the Aerosoft F-16 for FSX, even the 3D pit. Right down to the shine on the LGBs. A little coincidental IMO. Hope I am wrong.
  19. Hello all. I am attaching a TRK of some moves I was doing. Could this be used as a rapid approach landing in a hot LZ? Thanks. 180s.trk
  20. Check the wind direction and land into the head wind if possible. Coming at an offset is absolutely the way it is done. Landed on a pitching deck many times and was almost always at an offset to get a safe view. In a high wind the airframe is going to want to line up with the slip so be prepared for rudder shift at touchdown.
  21. That reminds of a time when one of ours was getting very frustrated. He kept trying to take off and would go ballistic and crash. During all this there were five of us bouncing all over the place landing, taking off, hovering, fancy flying etc. Come to find out his Y axis wasn't set in the UI. This guy is a great pilot and can you imagine his aggravation at seeing all of us flying well. We were telling him to check the ASE, trimmer, throttles, and everything else we could think of to help. Once we figured it out he was smooth as glass.
  22. You can password the mission. I get frustrated as well but not everyone takes it as serious as I do. We have some hotdogs and they learned the airplane just by messing around. We are an AF squad and when we fly AF we are by the book and realism, brevity, tactics, etc is a must. When we fly Black Shark we are pretty loose even during intense missions. We want to get to the point of AF with BS but we are not there yet. We are trying to boost our membership by introducing BS very casually and then we will ramp it up. I have learned so much just by watching the horsing around. True in life, I have seen helicopter students during their first sim get permission to hotdog to get it out of their system. I was one of them. Those that want it will stay, those that do not will go back to HAWX on the ole 360 or PS3. Hang in there. ;)
  23. Send those guys to http://missionserver.16thaccw.org/. We will teach them. We have 13 solid Black Shark Pilots. What we teach we relearn as well.
