  1. Had a few CTDs immediately after updating to 2.7 but a reboot seems to have fixed that problem. Ran a few a10c and f14 missions without issue for an hour.

  2. I'm just posting here to add my voice to the frustration at the state of ILS right now. I work in the world of software so I do understand how complex and time-consuming the bug fixing process can be. But this is a product which has been released for many years now and for a study sim to have broken ILS is just ridiculous. It's like having an undercarriage which will only extend at certain airfields. I realize my input won't make any difference but I just wanted to vent as this is really spoiling my experience of operating an otherwise fantastic aircraft. And yes I realize it's not the aircraft that's broken.

  3. Time is finally right to get into VR. I just sold my 49 inch ultrawidescreen to save up money for a headset. I have a 1080ti, i7-7700 and 16 gb memory so

can I run reverb without struggling or should I go for Rift S or something else??

Another 16gb RAM would help but otherwise you're good to go.

  4. I just got my HP Reverb a few weeks ago and I'm not having much issues with a 1080ti.

Matter of fact I'm having a blast. Only using it for DCS.

The only issue that bothers me is the flickering while waiting for missions to load.

    I'm definitely not returning it.

    Thanks

    Pizmo

Yeah I'm very happy with performance, also using a 1080ti. I've updated Windows to ver 1903 and that's improved stability quite a lot as well. I can now run it for hours without issue.

  5. You need sharp contrast. My quick solution was I taped a bunch of calling cards at edges of. My desk, on the floor, arm chairs, they help a lot when looking down towards your lap

Thanks. That's a good suggestion. I'll get some fluorescent tape and put it in various strategic locations, see how that works.

  6. Quick change of topic : Can anyone recommend a product to improve the tracking of the Reverb? Do I need something specific like the lightboxes or will a couple of IR LEDs suffice? What about placement and quantity? I want to prevent the instances where the headset occasionally loses its full 6 DOF tracking, even when the room is well lit.

  7. Hmm I don’t think that’s the case as DCS is still the focal app when I take the headset off.

I just had a little flight this morning before work and noticed that the control of the mouse etc comes back once I turn back on one of the Reverb controllers so it seems somewhat related?

Is there a way to not need the controls for mouse etc input?

I do hear the controllers turn off but I don't recall losing control of dcs. But you can run dcs without the controllers started so there will be no disconnection.

  8. I think I’ve got another issue in addition to what people have noted here. After about 15 mins of flying around, I hear the windows disconnect sound and I’m not able to use the mouse nor my HOTAS for input in VR.

When I take my headset off though, I’m able to see the mouse moving around and can use it to click options.

    Any idea what’s going on?

That will be some other app putting dcs in the background. Next time try alt-tabbing back into dcs. If that's the case then you can work out which app is causing you a problem and change its settings.

iirc there are some options in wmr and steamvr to prevent things popping up and spoiling your experience.

  9. New failure. Not sure its WMR/reverb/DCS or whatever...

Headset froze the picture, however DCS kept running fine on the flat screen. Anyone seen that happen?

I had that on my original reverb. Haven't seen it on the replacement yet. Yet.

So far the only problem I have had was yesterday evening the the display on the headset didn't start up until I rebooted the pc

  10. Possible, though the issue only started recently, and I'd been running the Rift for a while. It actually started shortly after the firmware update fixed the static flash issue. I've got a very high wattage brand new supply on the system as well.

Has anyone tried an external powered hub? Theoretically the connectivity should be the same if it was USB3 and the external supply would augment the power draw.

I've read elsewhere on this thread that powered hubs don't work. I use a powered USB 3 card and that works well.

  11. I've got my Reverb hopefully arriving next week. How do I set it up?

I understand I have to install SteamVR (should I go for the beta version) but is that it?

That's pretty much it to be honest. Windows Mixed Reality should start up automatically when you plug in the headset and then take you through the setup steps for room scaling etc.

It's a pretty painless process. Bear in mind when you start the controllers that you need to hold in the start button for a couple of seconds before they power up.

  12. Ah yes, that's good to know. So there's the trade-off then: More washed out colors, but greater visual quality - thank you.

TBH the slightly washed out colours aren't much of an issue in DCS in my opinion. Too much saturation makes it look a bit cartoonish so I'm ok with that.

Or rather I WILL be OK with it when I get my hands on the replacement version 2 of the Reverb. I'm suffering withdrawal symptoms :(

  13. that is good news.... I'm ready to hand them my money if they would send me one :)

As stated above, wait until they are fully fixed. It will be worth the wait and you don't want the frustrations some of us have had to put up with the first iteration of the reverb.

It's hard to describe the frustration of having DCS crash just as you're about to execute some super nifty manoeuvre or deploy a cluster bomb on a formation of armour with perfect precision.

  14. Ah ya, man these things are finicky!

So I think I found out my reason for the lower clarity. It's the non-perfect/native being used by SteamVR.

Test it. Just open only WMR portal. Inside, press the Windows button on the WMR controller. This will bring up the options menu. Here you will see the menu is pretty clear and you don't have any weird "waviness" or distortions, especially around the edges of the menu boxes.

Now at 188% scaling in SteamVR (as close to the native resolution as you can get), launch a SteamVR game. Once in, do the same thing above. Notice how it is not as clear and you can see way more distortion/waviness of the edges of the boxes.

We need to find a way to get SteamVR to do pixel perfect.

Well ideally when ED implement native support for the Reverb in DCS we'll be laughing.

  15. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/43948-reverb-new-offering-from-hp/page/10/

on the bright side, this means they are fixing it, so that is good

(I'm also hoping to hear something about the Cosmos... in particular it's price point)

As much as I miss having my Reverb around, I'm happy to think I'll eventually reorder and have a fixed cable and various other gremlins sorted so it will be a much smoother experience (fingers crossed).

  16. Everyone's in a big hurry to get their headset to market so they're compromising on QC in various areas. Ironically this is good thing for us in the long run, to know that so many manufacturers are so competitive to corner the market means there could be some really interesting products on the horizon.
