The built in prompt to upgrade in Win 7 isn't no more available. Though there are some ways to upgrade to Win 10 for free. You could just download the Windows Media Cration tool from Microsoft and boot from this device install Win 10 from this and it may just activate.

If you boot from the Media Creation Tool, the option to upgrade from 7 is still there.

Either download it to a flash drive or burn it to a DVD.

Insert tool, restart and press F8 to get to the boot menu.

Select the drive or disc to boot from and follow the prompts.

    It's free.

  2. Where is the He-111 in all of this? In addition to bombs on the Ju-88, an He-111 is a must have for any scenario in western Europe.

Fully flyable of course would be better, but for the short term, at least an AI version + Ju-87's must be in the mix.

There are currently no German bombers in the game. There were several that operated during this period/theatre, the 111 being the most prominent,

followed by the Ju-87 ~variants Stuka dive bombers.

Maybe then we can move on to populate the upcoming Marianna's Islands map with allied and Japanese assets, but I agree that we must finish Europe first.

We only need a few more modules, a proper late 44/early 45 map and some more assets (like working radar) to call this theatre more or less complete.

Pls consider putting your energy into getting this finished before putting considerable effort into a new SEA theatre.

Also, pls consider providing the community with a roadmap to reach this goal (aka a list of features to be completed in chronological order until said goal is reached). I think most of the WW2 community would appreciate something like this. Thanks.

I agree 101%. We are close to achieving this for WWll. Considering that ED has a relatively small dev team, efforts should be prioritized to complete this theatre

instead of pushing out a lot of new stuff with no proper place to play them. They should finish what they started, or things will become too fragmented.

I hope for a bf109 G6 so it would suit the allied planes.

Instead of a variant of a plane that we already have, how about modules that will be needed for the current EU maps and upcoming Marianna's map?

This map, which is currently under development and will be a much welcomed extension of WWll, will be almost useless without WWll era carriers,

support ships and associated aircraft, both allied and Japanese.

We already have two good WWll European theatres in The Channel and Normandy maps, but no German bombers, Naval or other assets to populate them.

This is where they need to focus most of their energy to appease us WWll buffs.

  4. With the ME you control everything. Which planes, which armament, how many of each, where they takeoff and land, what they are going to attack etc.

It would be worth your while to try and learn it. It seems intimidating at first, but it's really quite intuitive. Go slow at first, check all the details and you'll not be sorry.

  5. That's not what I said. I was referring to the two sound samples you provided. They are a vast improvement over what we have, but still sound a bit off to my ears.

I agree that we definitely need better voices and those samples would be just fine. All I meant was that they still sound like digital voices.

I was trying to be a little humorous with the Max Headroom comment,

I know he was voiced by Matt Frewer who did a great job of exaggerating a digital character. (digital, get it?)

I am a old blues and jazz musician. I have sensitive ears and I still believe that vinyl records sound better than CD's.

Wow that is impressive. Id like to see that on DCS...

I disagree, they both sounded unnatural to me. A little bit clipped.

Granted, the tech is light years better than Max Headroom, but still

    not quite there IMHO.

There is an RN livery for the sea king but the db_countries that comes with it no longer works for me. I used to have to place it back in the scripts folder after every update. After many try’s I ended up giving up making it work. Maybe ED will get around fixing it or just wait for RAZBAM’s SH-3.

    Royal Navy Sea King:

    https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3310330/

Don't add the whole folder. Instead open RN_Sea King/Bazar/Liveries/sh-3w and copy the Mariene folder.

    Paste into:    Main Game Folder/Bazar/Liveries/sh-3w.

It should work. The RN skin is really nice. Let me know if you get it to work.

Another cool tip.....after you add the sh3w, make a copy of the entire db_countries.lua file and then when the IC kicks it out,

you can paste and replace it in the database folder. Saves a little typing.

I did see that livery, but I was talking about the red/grey rescue livery which was a familiar sight on both the Sea King and Wessex back in the day. I have plans to try to create some rescue missions involving multiple helos, and the Sea King would be an asset to those.

I'm afraid that I don't have the red and grey. I kinda' like the Blue Nightdippers. It looks like this:

  8. Another combat game that I used to play uses the Widelands Replay format (not the Widelands game) which stores the battle partly on their server and your input commands are stored on your machine as a .wrlp file.

When you replay the battle it puts them back together to re-create everything that happened including all other units.  Replays are automatically saved, so you don't have

to remember to hit the "save Track" button. Server side replays are also available. The replays don't deteriorate over time except: see below.

    There is a downside though.

Every time the game updates to a new version, the files are on their side get deleted and you can no longer replay that battle. If you are planning to make a cinematic video,

You have to do it before they change to a new version, which is about every 2 to 3 months or so. They do let you know when an update is coming though.

    1) The track file only records inputs, the rest is independently resimulated. So as time goes on, the imprecision increases. This isnt really a bug, just a tradeoff. Recording changes of all states of all objects several times a second would be problematic and track files huge. If it worked this way, someone else would complain about 2GB files.

The typical file size of a .wrlp file on your machine is 2 to 5 MB each, a tad more than our tracks, but certainly not in the ~Gb range.

I have TacView Advanced. It's great for tactical analysis (it's intended function) but terrible for creating cinematic gameplay footage from a recorded battle.

I, like many others are more interested in using tracks to create cinematic videos of our greatest battles and sharing them on YouTube.

TacView is great, but like you said, virtually useless for us content creators.

The DCS track system is buggy at best. Shorter tracks are more reliable, but if a great battle moment occurs in the middle of a long track,

odds are that you will not be able to find and record it. I am hoping dearly that ED does something to improve their track replay system.

For now, us content creators have to rely on short tracks;   also, IDK how BigNewy and others can diagnose problems using this unreliable system.

Same here. Sounds like something going on with your machine. Have you checked your anti virus settings?

  10. Okay.......I think the real issue here, at least for me is that they aren't all that hard to kill, but once dead, they continue to take damage.

The markers (if you use them) do not go out indicating that they are still a viable target. You continue to engage even though they have been killed.

AI gunners don't seem to know that they are dead either and keep wasting ammo instead of firing at live targets.

Once a unit has been killed, it should be taken out of the game, the AI should no longer engage and the marker should disappear so

that players and AI will not waste time and ammo on a dead target. Because it continues to receive and register damage, it's easy to think that they are still alive.

In this track here, the Mi-24 is counted as dead at 01:28, but continues to take and register damage.

  11. The Sea King can be added as such:

    Close DCS

    Main folder/scripts/database.

    Open db_countries.lua with notepad++, scroll to line 1607 CH-53E

Add this code to line 1608:    cnt_unit( units.Helicopters.Helicopter, "SH-3W"); and save.

    Restart DCS

    WPkGyCi.jpg

The Sea King will now appear in the ME as an AI only. PM me for skins.

It will be rejected by IC so after every update or repair, you'll have to put it back in.  I use it mostly as a SAR hovering above the carrier.
