  1. Hey Andyo, the Bay Class is part of my big deck plans.  I have the model.  

    Sorry guys I haven't released the Iranian Frigate. Ran into some technical difficulties. I was told when I worked in IT to never spend more than 15 minutes trying to solve a problem. Move on and come back to it. However, I always try my best to resolve issues and sometimes that turns into days. When all else fails I ask for assistance and there are not many I can ask when it comes 3d model AI Ship problems.

    Opinion. What do you guys think? Do you think it's too much grunge and rust? I'm trying to give the Comandanti the weathered look. I don't want to overdo it. That's what's so great about Substance Painter. You can create any effect you want. The waterline and hull numbers were painted on using the Projection feature. This is just practice. I sampled the texture of the real ship photo below but when I exported the texture it appeared close to white. 

    Did you all know the US Navy used to have a White ship? USS Coronado AFG-11. I think it was painted white because of the extreme heat in the Arabian Gulf. It was stationed in Bahrain. Later it was painted Haze Grey and changed to LPD-11. The photo below was taken in 1981.

  2. Thanks, Turbo, no I didn't look at it like that. Texturing is texturing. I see models sold for hundreds of dollars that have terrible textures. I just SMH. The more texturing or modeling you do the better you get Turno. You have to keep at it though otherwise, you will lose your experience. No, matter how many models we create. No two can be created the same. Even if they have the same weapons. There will ALWAYS be an issue.

  3. Hey Turbine, go for it. 

    Texturing has always been a WIP for me. I was thinking about this the other day while working on texturing in Substance Painter. I've been trying to understand what is good texturing. Do they need to be high resolution or Is it the metalness, normals, AO and roughness, or a combination of them all? If it's a combination of them all. How do you know you have created good textures? I'm sure you all have thought this way one way or another. Have you ever been doing something and wondering if you're doing it right 😁? Or shall I say you are doing something and you know you're not doing it correctly? 😄 But an even bigger question. Who do you ask? Just thinking out loud.

  4. Wow, I forgot the Horizon Class. That's what happens when you have too many mods to work on. I was working on the Horizon and Forbin classes at the same time last year because they are both similar but with different weapons. Same, but one has more weapons than the other.  I'm currently working on the Comandanti and Bergamini FREMM Italian frigate.  They don't have a lot of bells and whistles so they shouldn't take very long to create. All will be worked on after the release of the Iranian Class Frigate.

    Afterward, I will backtrack to work on the Arg AI Ship mods. Oak Hill, San Antonio, and USS America. 

    Hey Eddie, I will definitely send the textures over once I have them sorted out. It's a simple model so I may add my textures using the same texture colors if I can't make the existing textures work out. Thanks.

  5. Thanks, Eddie for confirming. I saw those photos of the ships as well and I couldn't find a model of them also. Is it because the UK doesn't have the funds to save the ships or I assume they plan to replace them because they're old? 

    Well if all you're looking for is an Ice Breaker. I have one. USCGC Healy. It's a low poly mod but it has good details. It does need some work as the textures are all over the place but it can be done. 

    Iranian Frigate news. I'm finishing up the mod as I write this. She will be released next week. The issue with this Iranian ship is it doesn't have any air defenses but it can fight off small craft. 

    Next up. Is Italy. I will create a few Italian ships as I've never created any for DCS. I will take a look at the Cavour Carrier I have to see how much work it needs. I may be able to bring it to DCS as well but it will take some time. We'll see. Stay Tunded.

    I hear you loud and clear. I don't understand why they created the SA Map but didn't create those mods you mentioned. They have a team of guys that could create them in no time. I think they are not a priority so it's up to us to provide them. For us loner 3D Modelers. We have our hands filled with future projects. I have enough projects to take me well into 2026. 

    Fearless wouldn't be a difficult mod to create but as mentioned I don't see any 3d models out there of her. What type of ship is Endurance? I see two vessels out there with the same name.

    So about contributing. I honestly only need assistance with creating Liveries every so often.  Also, deck landing spots and parking are the others especially when it comes to the big decks. Everything else has to be worked out in 3ds max. I usually send out my models for testing before release to see if I've missed something or to get another opinion about how the mods perform. As you can see I don't need much assistance. When I am focused I can complete a model in no time. Right now I'm finishing up the Iranian IRIS Alvand Class Frigate. It will be done soon.

    I'm testing the capabilities of adding the Ukrainian SeaBaby and Magura V5 to DCS. So far so good if it gets close enough to the ship. WIP.

  7. Chap2012, I have a 3d model of the TCG Anadolu along with a Turkish escort ship. Hmm, you know I forgot Turkey is near Syria. Noted.

    HighMaintenanceB, I’ve been on the lookout for the Type 075 but I can’t find a decent model of it. So about welldecks. The new San Antonio will have a welldeck installed but not sure how much you will be able to use it. If the ships were able to ballasts in water. That would make it more realistic.

    Fury, NZ1781. Yes, USS America is being revamped. Beldin, has been working hard on creating deck landing spots for her. All the weapons need to be upgraded as well to make her more realistic. We also need to make sure she doesn't have any FPS issues.

    Tengah, I haven’t seen a 3d model of HMS fearless out there. Most of the 3D Models I have are all modern. Yep, I have a lot of models but it takes a lot of time to create them. Weapon Coding takes up 90% of that time for me especially if the ship has a lot of weapons. I say that because when the codes don’t work properly you’re in and out of DCS testing and more testing until the mod works properly.  That takes up most of my time.

    Hey Beldin, there is a way to make the welldeck gate lower and raise but that’s all it can do. The Chinese Type 071 Amphibious Transport Dock has the coding for it. It’s just a camera script used to lower and raise the gate.

    So, reading all the posts there is a need for another Large Amphibious Assault Ship (Bird Farm) as we called them in the US Navy. Sounds like they are favored over most of the other Warships.  I would like to get the USS America back up to full speed before creating another Large-deck Amphibious Ship in DCS. 

    The last few days I have been working to get the Iranian IRIS Alvand Class Frigate in DCS. As you can see below she’s in DCS. I’m working on coding all the weapons which as mention is a Pain sometimes.  I can tell you all from experience.  DCS game engine has its thoughts about how we code the weapons for AI Ships. The game engine will let you know right away if you coded the weapons correctly or not. So I just code one weapon at a time and go from there. I’m also working on the Amazonas Coastal Patrol as well.

  8. Good Afternoon Everyone.

    The Collision model for the USS Lewis Puller has been released in Ver 1.0.2.

    Currently, I'm playing around with texturing the Amazonas Class Offshore Patrol Vessel in Substance Painter. When you don't create the UVWs properly. it clearly shows but I will keep at it until I perfect it. The options you have in SP are endless.  The Amazonas Class Offshore Patrol Vessels are currently operated by the Royal Navy, Royal Thai Navy, Royal Bahrain Naval Forces, and Brazil.  The major differences I see amongst them all are deck weapons. WIP!!  Stay posted.

    Honestly Beldin, I never knew about it. I will give it a try as well and compare FPS rates against Frame Rate. Thanks for sharing that information.

  9. USS Lewis B. Puller FPS Lag Update.

    USS Lewis B. Puller lag issue number #2 has been resolved. I had to break up the collision model into five parts. I guess the game engine reads large AI mod files differently. Honestly, not sure why it happens. Below is the FPS I received in the AH-64 after I updated the ESB collision model. FPS was 117 and higher as seen in the top right corner of the screen. 

    Goetsch, I will send you the updated collision model for testing. Please share your results with the Forum. 

    After, you share your results. I will release ESB Collision Model update 1.0.2. Thank you.

  11. Hello Everyone, I hope you are doing well. My back pain is stable at the moment so I'm taking advantage of the moment to create more AI Ship mods.

    I will be releasing the Hamina Class Missile Boat soon.

    **Known issues. The RBS-15 Missile Launcher doesn't close after launching all missiles. I created the missile launcher because the 3d model didn't have one built. It's an AI vehicle script used on an AI ship so it doesn't function the same. Missile launch sounds aren't working properly. I will continue to work on the sound until it's resolved. It's a Pain in the 8$$. For some vessels they work fine for others it's trial and lots of error. 😀

    The Hamina-class missile boat is a class of fast attack craft of the Finnish Navy. They are classified as "missile fast attack craft" or ohjusvene, literally "missile boat" in Finnish. 

    The vessels were built in the late 1990s, early 2000s, and are the fourth generation of Finnish missile craft. The first vessel was ordered in December 1996 and the fourth was handed over on 19 June 2006. Since the launch of the Helsinki-class missile boats, all fast attack craft have been named after Finnish coastal cities. The class was previously known also as Rauma 2000 following its predecessor the Rauma class.

    Thanks, Tripod. I think I will start creating more of those rust buckets as we used to call those old rusty ships. I didn’t understand how some were still floating but what I learned. It was more about whether they could go from point A to B than the rust. As long as it floats most of the ship operators didn’t care about the preservation of the ship.

    OrdinaryPilot, it's funny you ask. I have an LCM-8 built from scratch. It should be done in a month. So standby for that mod.

    The Hamina-class missile boat is a class of fast attack craft of the Finnish Navy. They are classified as "missile fast attack craft" or ohjusvene, literally "missile boat" in Finnish. The Hamina FACs are based at Upinniemi, and form the 7th Surface Warfare Squadron, part of the Finnish Coastal Fleet, together with the minelayers MLC HämeenmaaPorkkala, and Pyhäranta.

    She is armed with 1x - Bofors 57 mm/70 SAK Mk3, 2x - 12.7 NSV Machine guns, 8x- Umkhonto-IR Sams and 4x - RBS-15 Mk2 (SSM) Anti-Ship Missiles.

    Afterward, I will release the Rusty old container ship. I planned to release an Iranian Alvand Class Frigate along with her but I still have work to do on the Alvand class.     Thanks for the support I appreciate it very much. It keeps me pushing to create more 3D AI mods.

    JakeFlys I'm working on a few OPV 3d models as we speak.  The Amazonas Class Patrol Boat, the Arafura Class, and also the Holland Class Patrol Boat. I tend to work on a lot of mods at once so sometimes I forget what I'm working on lol. Honestly, I work on mods now based on how I feel. When I'm feeling pretty good I try to work on as much as I can but I don't push myself too hard.

    I'm working on a Rebel or Suspect container ship along with the Hamina Class Missile Boat. Both are almost finished. Below is a photo of the Suspect vessel with missiles and bombs on deck. It is a low poly mod but it suits well for DCS. I added a rebel flag to it but I may change it before release. 

    I had to create the RBS-15 anti-ship missile launcher for the Hamina because it don't come with the model. As you can see damage model is complete. The issue with the missile launcher is it doesn't lower. The code is from a vehicle mod. There is a way around it but I don't think it will be realistic.

    Hello Rascals with Squiggels, I'm not sure if there are ship models of those vessels out there. Maybe you can search around for them online.

    Thanks, McFly29 I haven't seen any issues since the update other than ships no longer have smoke from the stacks/exhaust. All the ships are loading and responding in DCS as they should at least on my end.

  14. Happy New Year everyone. Sorry, I have been absent, MIA, and gone for so long. I would like to thank all of you for your concerns and it means a lot to me. 

    It's been rough but I'm still here trying to get back into what I love doing. Creating AI 3D Ship models for DCS.  It's a slow process but I'm getting there. 

    My plan for 2024 is to start creating small 3D DCS AI boats and ship models and work my way up from there. I will create the mods in no specific order. I will eventually get back to the AI Mods I was working on in 2023.

    Below is the first model of 2024. Finlands Hamina Class Missile Boat FNS Tornio. It's a WIP.  For the record, I haven't seen any issues with any of my AI Ship models and I have the recent DCS  version installed.

  16. What I found is if I create a damaged model that is one object and there are damaged textures added to the AI Ship mod. It will cause FPS issues for the AI Player aircraft. Depending on the size and type of AI Ship mod. The collision models need to be broken into 2-4 objects. the flight deck has to have a separate collision object for it to work properly.

    For example, the USS Oak Hill is somewhat the same size as the LPD Foudre. However, I had to break up the Foudre collision model into 4 objects because of the way the model is created. Whereas I only split the USS Oak Hill into 3 objects. Also, they have to be named properly. It's a lot of trial and error and I always test the FPS with the AH-64 because it seems to cause a low FPS in DCS. 

    Examples are below. The Damage Mod object name and Argument number have to be the same on the Collision mod, the Original Mod, and within the AI Ship mods main luas Damage section as shown below. If the names and arguments are incorrect the collision model will not function properly and you won't see the damaged textures on the original mod. 

    Hope that helps all. PM me if you need instructions on adding the damage textures to the original mod.

    I'm currently working on USS Oak Hill and LPD Foudre FPS issues. The FPS issue has been resolved on both Mods. Weapon testing in Progress. 

    There's another DCS update coming before the end of the year I think. Let's hope it doesn't cause us more issues.
