  1. Thanks Hardcard! So, I need to learn MOOSE (unless there's a lower threshold scripting engine around) - I take it MOOSE beats LUA hands down? (I haven't looked into any of this yet - guess I should now...)
  2. Hi I'm playing with Mission Editor and trying to figure things out. I have a couple of events that are blocking things up and I'm trying to troubleshoot them: - when I load troops into a chinook for transport, some of them load and then at about the 10th soldier they stop. I'm well below the aircraft capacity of 33. - I sent a couple of Su-33s to bomb a runway. part way out, wingman RTBs and then the lead RTBs as well about 75% to the IP. Using unlimited fuel, so that shouldn't be an issue? - I have a squadron of Tu-95s I send out to launch some cruise missiles. Occasionally, one will abort and RTB. I'd like to dive into an event or parameters log to debug the bumps, but I haven't found any documentation to that effect. I'm not using MOOSE or anything smart, just the generic ME stuff for now... :helpsmilie: Joel
  3. OK... I'm an idiot!... I don't see anywhere in the documentation where it says how to jump between seats... and the videos assume I'm sitting in pilot or RIO.. help? tks
  4. Hi - I've seen pople talk about convertng map DDMM.mmm coordinates into DDMMSS.ss BUT How do you set the F10 map to display decimal minutes??
  5. So what are your views on the new HP Reverb? It looks good to me, the casual browser. 2160 x 2160 and 114 degree FoV
  6. Most USMC Hornet pilots will never see the deck of a carrier after achieving their quals. They operate either deployed or from a USMC Air Station. They can operate from carriers but my understanding is that's not the norm. It's fine for you to say they're said a million times, but the advertising is what should be the fundamental reference. If ED wishes to say what you say they do, it should be stated up front in their product listings wherever they appear. Kindly refer to https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/planes/hornet/ - in fact 2 of the 3 first Hornet images on that pitch page are Canadian CF-188s. I'll grant you that Canada doesn't operate Cs so let's keep it simple and limit ourselves to that model to be fair to ED. A bit of research will show you that -18Cs were/are used by: USN, USMC, Finland, Kuwait and Switzerland. The last 4 likely have ILS capability. Also, the point isn't to rely on a mod to meet the expected performance. As far as I'm concerned, ED should either state that it's selling the USN version of the C with various liveries or simply model the ILS - which is easy As to your closing comment, it adds nothing to the discussion and you might wish to learn to not talk like an internet troll as it only reduces people's opinions of you :smilewink: Aloha
  7. Considering that the F/A-18C that is marketed to us is not labeled at "USN version of" and in fact it states "Operated by several nations" and comes with various nations' liveries; I would state my expectation that the capabilities of those nations that operate the -18C - including armament and other capabilities - should be provided. Authenticity could be ensured by tying the ILS capability to the livery if one wants to be absolutely anal. Marine Corps don't fly on boats - Don't tell me they don't have ILS. Same for the Aussies, Canadians, Swiss, et al. And for goodness' sake the approach limits for a non-precision approach such as a TACAN are ridiculously high when compared to a precision approach such as ILS. Not everyone's world revolves around the USN
  8. Considering that war can break out at any time and there wouldn't be time to wander over to get resupplied somehow, I would assume that the load-out would be the same in peacetime and not. Numbers? A bunch! :) ?
  9. Oh! The A-10C!! Now that one has proven to be a huge challenge to me as there are so many functions to map! I've found the X-52 to not have enough buttons to go around and I suspect that you may need to map the pinkie switch as a modifier, which does require Logitech SW... Call me a wimp, but I kind of gave up trying to be decent in the A-10C - its learning curve is super steep IMHO. I'm finding the F/A-18 to be much more approachable. Definitely an adventure! Have fun :)
  10. Personally, I haven't found the need for the modes; though if I used VR I might think otherwise? . I just click the cockpit buttons for startup. Taxi is painless. You switch from flight to weapons mode at a flick of a switch and the HOTAS buttons are friendly that way (e.g. one is nosewheel steering on the ground and undesignate target in the air. So, in my experience, the modes in my HOTAS are superfluous. I've mapped the flaps, gear, Sensor, target, countermeasures, cage/uncage and a few other valuable switches / modes and gone flying quite happily. Have a look at WAGS' training videos at and decide how you want to fly your plane and pick those functions you want to map. I'm being a bit loose on that choice for you as different people have different interests and priorities for their hobby. I'm Canadian and I use my F-18 the way we do ours: land-based for combat. One of these days I might try flying traps on a carrier but my preference is hitting ground targets, dodging missiles and killing air opponents. I'd suggest you make a few basic choices (you'll likely adapt them as your style evolves) and get out and try the plane. It's Fly by wire and hence extremely easy to control (no need to trim, so forget mapping that until you get into refueling). Use the function keys on the displays as the real pilots do and use your HOTAS the way the real HOTAS is used... Have fun!
  11. Hi and welcome! I have an X52 Pro. I suspect it's very similar. What I've done is simply to map the aircraft functions using the DCS adjust controls functionality. This video by Wags provides an overview of how to do this, although he's focusing on the TDC I still have a couple of things I'd like to do better but this will get you started. I haven't bothered with the Logitech software, which I find confusing at best...
  12. Hi - This may be a cultural thing but ... My background is ATC. I've spent a few hundred hours on flight decks and several in the back seat of an F-18 and riding as crew is helos. The stuff one sees in movies about emotional outbursts, recriminations, second thoughts and all that emotive nonsense is just that, nonsense. When you're in the heat of action, short, concise and accurate phraseology is key. standard wording, no fluff, keep it professional and get 'er done. The cute words come in the after action retelling :) (the extra words in the DCS JTAC drive me nuts!) I hope Jester and all the other recordings end up being as realistic as possible. I think it would be nice for you to find some ex Navy guys who did this for real, rather than use actors. Also, the voice quality of someone wearing a headset in a room is VERY different from what you hear from a guy in a mask on an intercom or radio. I hope you'll try and adapt your sound files to clip the frequencies and apply the appropriate effects to replicate the audio quality as best you can :) Just my 2 cents' worth! Looking forward to playing :)
  13. X52 Mini-stick as TDC on F/A-18 - how? Hi - I have an X52 Pro and I would like to designate the mini-stick on the throttle as TDC (as Wags' recent video shows). I've watched the various tutorials and suggestions above but none of the ideas seem to work. I would prefer to use the DCS designations rather than Saitek's software. What do I need to do to the mini-stick via the saitek programming so it can be recognized in the DCS axis definitions for TDC? thanks!
  14. standard AWACS altitude is FL290, in my experience. It may be different in segregated airspace.
