Just did the pre-purchase of the just released HP reverb G2. I have the odyssey plus right now but it is difficult to read gauges. For those with the current reverb, how legible are the gauges currently? I really wanted to buy the current reverb due to high resolution but without a manual IPD, it was a deal breaker. Thankfully, they have included these adjustments on the new version.

2080ti is faster than the 1080ti in dcs. Personally, I’d wait for the 3 series nvidia cards. As to cpu, even my 6700k isn’t the bottleneck in vr, the card is. If vulkan improves core utilization significantly (many say it wont be that much of an improvement) any decent multi-core may work. But for now in VR, 9900k and 2080ti are the best bet.

I’m thinking the same myself. Maybe with reverb’s higher resolution it has a dramatic performance hit over my samsung odyessy+? I’m running same gpu and slower cpu and I easily get 45-60fps at high resolution.

I went from overclocked 980ti hydrocopper to 2080ti. As you’d imagine it was a significant improvement- but not double the speed or such. In your case I’d wait for nvidia’s 3 series gpu launch next January and decide then. As said, the cpu will eventually need an upgrade but playing in vr on my rig, the gpu runs at 100% compared to 70% for the cpu.

Dell, HP, etc are not only usually overpriced, in addition the biggest issue is they use proprietary MBs and videocards which limit upgrading individual components in the future. PSUs will also be minimum needed to run the system so any upgrades that may fit in will likely reguire you to buy a new PSU as well (hopefully it uses a standard ATX format but no guarantees). Do yourself a favor and save $500 while getting a system with better cpu/gpu from someone like cyberpower PC. You can literally spec every single component down to the make and model of the part. Want a specific MB brand and model? No problem. Specific model videocard? Easy peasy. Etc My system was built by cyberpower PC 3 years ago to my exact specifications including custom watercooled loop for cpu/gpu. I Upgraded the video card mid year as well as added an m.2 drive on the MB with zero problems. Everything works great and it was cheaper to buy than purchasing the parts individually and assembling it myself. Warranty coverage can be specified as long as you want as well.

I’d keep and eye out to see if evga has a black friday sale again this year and pick up the 2080ti black edition. I bought it at non sale price for $999 last year and it really works great (compared to my oc’d 980ti hydrocopper). Otherwise, once the 30 series get released early next year at CES, maybe the 2080ti prices will drop. To be honest turning up all details is even taxing a 2080ti so maybe waiting for a 30 series isn’t a bad idea either. As to vr headsets, I think the only logical answer for now is the reverb. Even with higher pixels of the odyessy+, details on the gauges and dials is hard to read without zooming in. I’ll take slightly less comfortable and superior detail, slightly less color enhancement. But regardless of the weaknesses, the high screen resolution os a must flying sims.

With the recent releases of info on the 4000 series ryzen cpus in 1st half 2020 and Intels 10 series cpu debuting around the same time. I’ve been rethinking spending upgrade money right now to see what pans out. I’m hoping for a significant boost to get the best bang for my buck. Can’t wait to see what’s coming!

Thanks all for the feedback. I like the idea of buying something at the beginning of model run and being able to drop a new chip in a few years later vs. end and now having to rebuy mb and cpu. Think I’ll give the AMD a try (last on I had was back in the althon days). Let you know how it goes once I get it all together.

I’m planning on making some upgrades to my rig this xmas season and having some difficulty as to which CPU will give the best performance in DCS. Most of what I’ve read is highest single core performance and clock speed. If that’s the only determining factors, the 9900k seems to be a no brainer. But, recently I’ve been reading that ipc and performance tests that calculate total work performed are a better indicator. The single core benchmark (I forgot the name at the moment) actually shows the 3900x outperforms the the intel chip by a small margin even though it runs at a lower clock speed. So, has anyone with similar specs to mine run back to back comparisons in DCS to determine which CPU has the best performance? What are folks thoughts?

What’s your basis for this? I have an EVGA 2080ti black w/ hydrocopper water block. It easily overclocks 750mhz on memory and 200mhz on the core even though the power limit on the board is only 112%. Significant improvement in fps of 5-6 fps when playing dcs vs. running stock clocks (38-42 w/o and solid 45 all the time with O/C. Now the difference running my cpu at 4.3 vs. 4.5 doesn’t seem quite so noticeable (since in my system the gpu the bottleneck in VR when running everything maxed out.

Yes. Green light gets brighter when you place your hand in position and centering effects begins working.

If I leave stick plugged in before starting game it flops around without any centering while flying in the game. If I plug in after game has started, stick will come to center when hand is on (per design) but zero ff effects. Behaves identical in p51 as well as f86- havent tried it in other modules. Stick shows in options, properly mapped in control set up, ff checked in menu, tried the swap axis and no effect. Works fine when. i tried it in IL-2 sturmovik to verify the same day. I'm stumped.

Power cables and usb all correctly plugged in. Decided to try the p-51. Same issue- zero ff effects just stick centering.

In VR with the cockpit fully switchable the warthog isn’t the value it is in flat screen gaming. Other than the tHrottle, you can’t see most of the other controls without removing or peeking out of the headset. Outside of VR it’s excellent, insode meh. BTW it is routinely on sale for $300 at places like ATB.

No- what does that do? I have stick movement in the proper direction (down, up, left, right) just no centering force or ff effects. Read to plug n after dcs launched and after doing that now I get centering force but zero ff effects.
