  1. for one thing your ram is low, I had 8gb, and the microstutters were a regular feature, upgraded to 16gb (and much faster memory too) and it is generally smooth. clock your i7 up a bit too, the difference between 3.8ghz and 4.2ghz is noticeable.
  2. There is a setting in the Rift software found in Settings > General > Enable Unknown Sources. There is also a setting in DCS > VR tab to enable HMD devices, it might default to 'on' when an HMD is installed, same for both installations of DCS. Make sure you have Num5 mapped to a button to center, but otherwise, stuff just works. The real art to running DCS thru the Rift is fine tuning your graphic settings, for that, get to reading the main Rift thread https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=164807
  3. you have to set your Windows speaker output to the headset
  4. From Wags in Oculus Rift with DCS World Discussion thread
  5. One of the lucky few who acquired a Rift at Best Buy this last Saturday, been dividing VR time between DCS and Project Cars. Project Cars is utterly beautiful, amazing, wonderful. DCS is immersive, very pretty, but as PitbullVicious indicated, resolution is a problem for combat. In the BlackShark tanks at the outer range of vikhrs (what's that, 6 miles?) thru the shkval appear as dark smudges against lighter background. Is that a tree or a rock or a tank? F*** it, target it and blow it up. In the A-10c the B/W & flir views are both about the same detail as the shkval, better zooming power makes for better view, but searching for targets is still very hard. JTAC is enormously helpful. Targeting is not impossible, but it is more challenging than in 2D. Flight operations are excellent, really immersive. Landing the Shark has never been so easy and my touchdowns are smoother than ever before. FPS ranges from 90 over water to 20 looking at a city with smoke in the distance. I don't find 20 jarring or sickening, just disappointing. Seems to hover around 45 in most situations which looks excellent. Really having a hard time determining which settings will make it perform better/worse. I guess my takeaway is that from 2D I felt like i was observing, 3D I feel like i'm in it. Take for example, hovering in the Shark behind a hill, popping up to pick targets, AAA erupts from the other side of the hill and it was clear to me exactly where it was coming from, not a guess of "it's a mile or so away" but exactly where he was. edit- did not know there was a profanity filter!!! lol
  6. Thanks for the input guys, i'm chomping at the bit for CV1! pretty much wouldn't care if it didn't work for anything other than DCS. For my part, as long as it doesn't to the flippy crazy crap that it did in nvidia 3dvision then I think it's fine closing one eye, even if it's an immersion breaker, but if it's possible to get it displaying on one eye, that would be highly cool. And since it's not outside of the whirlybird discussion, along the lines of the Ka50 reticle, how about when (if) a real Apache is developed for DCS? If I recall that awesomely realistic movie Fire Birds (how awesome was that flick?!? all hail Nick Cage s/) that there is the eyepiece over one eye that has almost nothing to do with what's going on at the other eyeball. I have to guess that the current structure of VR simply doesn't support this sort of "view"?
  7. ***** The most important VR Ka-50 question from someone who's expecting to wait 4 more weeks for my rift; How does the targeting reticle work in VR for BlackShark??? one eye only or both???
  8. These Are The 30 Rift Launch Titles Available On Day One No mention of DCS! ?? What gives? Seems Oculus is hyping and promoting bunches of software but consistently ignores DCS, yet the few DK2 users who tried DCS all clamour and praise it.
  9. Wondering what level of experienced you are thinking of. Are you looking for a skill level of setting coordinates mid-flight, changing laser codes and setting CBU trigger altitude? Cold start and landing in pairs? I'm guessing from what you're written so far you are not thinking TARS, mods and ranks, right?
  10. I was looking for the carrier recovery series and did not find those missions in the FC3 folder so i went to look to the training section, i saw that FC3 had the option to download the training and so i did that, after having downloaded it, what appeared to be a successful process, there is nothing in the training for FC3. (there is also nothing in the training group for TF-51D, but there was no 'download' button there.)
  11. Wouldn't the A-29 Super Tucano be a bit of fun? It looks like the airframe of the Mustang fitted with the technology of the A-10c. interesting article at vice.com "The WWII-Era Plane Giving the F-35 a Run for Its Money" some images from that Vice article
  12. brace for a flood of opinions about "frame rate of the human eye" :music_whistling: 25 (or rather 24 for film) is just the standard, it is around the minimum fps to get the illusion of animation. You can perceive the difference between 30 and 60, if not scientifically, you can feel it. I cannot say what it is that is causing the trouble you describe, but I would venture this suggestion; if you changed the frame rate in-game, then try changing it in your driver (or vice versa). Nvidia drivers have this feature that fixes the fps at half the monitor's rate and that gave me a much better display than changing the in-game setting. On the other hand, maybe 2.0 will be out soon and reports suggest that will solve fps problems. **EDIT - that nvidia feature is on the vsync setting, "adaptive (half refresh rate)"
  13. you seem to suggest that some day it will not be in Beta. That, I think, is a point open to debate.
  14. IF it has anything to do with server load, then that is ONE of the possibilities. there might be multiple causes, but i can say for sure that it would try to download, and fail consistently at the same point in the progress bar, it would do it over and over while other guys in my squad were able to update at the very same time that i was failing, suggesting to me that it was NOT server load in my case. this afternoon I tried it once, twice, then disabled antivirus and the 3rd time worked, and so i would suggest my example is pretty clear cut. in my case my antivirus is Kaspersky.
  15. hash mismatch error seems to be solved by turning off anti-virus!! might have to first run the 'repair DCS' and then update.
  16. I've never had any hope that I could afford time or cost of flight lessons, so in some way I thought of flight-simming as my only opportunity to fly. I was wrong: If you've never heard of FPV flight, it is First Person View, where you take a model aircraft and mount a video camera and a radio transmitter, and then when you fly it you watch through a monitor (or headset) through the mounted camera, and here's the result I guess there might be a few people around here in the same situation as me; love to fly but no hope of ever piloting a real plane. Check it out, it rocks! oh hell, i give up, youtube video can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfj1iUEsfIU
  17. search the forum a little harder: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=64277
  18. How fast is your CPU? That's a 2.8 from the factory, and that is a bit slow for DCS. Overclock? It looks like people can get 3.6 or more from that, and DCS should run pretty smooth with that. If you cannot get any more speed out of your CPU, you might consider setting distance at medium (presuming you have it at high)
  19. I was having horrible trouble with a HDD, I found the SMART test on that drive said it was fine & dandy and healthy, but then I checked it with this utility http://www.hdtune.com/ and found that it was running at 10% the rated speed. Not sure why SMART didn't say anything about it, I guess it was running healthy & fine, just at 10% speed. On the other front, AVAST is a fine antivirus if you are an IT nerd with too much time on your hands. When used by an average computer user AVAST can throw a wrench into just about anything. If you're not 100% sure that you know what you're doing with AVAST you might be well served to try disabling/uninstalling and trying something different.
  20. Take note of the video reference in the minimum requirements. Minimum system requirements: Operating system: Windows XP, Vista or 7; Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz; Memory: 3 GB; Free hard disk space: 7 GB; Video: 512 MB RAM card, DirectX 9 - compatible; Sound: DirectX 9.0c - compatible; requires internet activation. Your Sony specs read: Video RAM: 256MB dedicated video ram. And then take note of the many posts by people in this forum talking about overclocking their i7 CPU's and consider that a Duo @ 2.2 is half the CPU speed that I am running at.
  21. Too much??? but that's what I hoping for. If that damn HMS would float over one eyeball, oh how cool would that be???
