  1. I went from thinking the previous patch stall was extream. Then I understood better what accelerated stall and that it could happen at any speed. Now it feels like we have reverted to a much older FM with no stalling at all. It was mentioned to me that the delta shape wing stalls differently to other wings so that will be my next area of study. Good reference with that YouTube video, but.others are correct in that it's always been possible as long as you didn't go all the way to 38 on the indicator. It feels like the Devs thought " we tried to update the FM and everyone hates it, let's just give them an old one with no stall characteristics to stop them whining" Devs, we all love that the FM is getting some attention, don't be discouraged! We love odd quirky character in our FM when it's believable. Please be more transparent with FM changes so we can discuss it properly without guessing what's happening under the bonnet ( hood, for Americans ).
  2. After having a chat with someone more knowledgeable than me, it seems this is actually a step towards more realism as the previous behaviour that gave accuracy similar to a CCIP was possibly unrealistic and impossible given the sensors and systems on the Mig 21. What I want to know now is what the difference is between using Auto and Manual mode for A2G unguided rockets and what the correct "by the book" method is for both.
  3. before I post it as a bug I wanted to check I wasn't being an idiot. I can't get the ASP site to uncage and give an accurate aiming point for unguided rockets and It's the behaviour for the gun site seems odd too. I've tried in GYRO and Missile ASP mode and tried using the Manual mode too. I've re-read chucks guide, the Mig 21 manual and re-run the tutorial mission with no luck. If anyone can recreate the behaviour seen in this older tutorial video then please let me know how. Thanks
  4. Could be, remember being able to power my way in at high AoA and not stalling. Maybe the speeds have changed or like you said, it's more spirited
  5. Further reading on Tip and Accelerated Stall Thanks to everyone for an interesting read. The replies to my OP post gave me a lot to think about. It seems that the behaviour I described in the opening post is referred to as an accelerated stall. I'll be honest, I haven't heard this term before so I decided to try and educate myself a bit more before I draw further, possibly inaccurate conclusions on the Mig 21 flight model. Accelerated Stalls. They are due to a critical AoA and can happen at any speed ( depending on aircraft ). In other words... A higher load factor (measured in G's) leads to higher stalling speed. Load factor increases with 1. Increase in weight 2. Steep turns 3. Abrupt changes in aircraft attitude. Here's a great quote I found from http://www.flightliteracy.com ( you may all know more about flying than me but I'm learning more every day and that's why I love sim flying ) "Any aircraft, within the limits of its structure, may be stalled at any airspeed. When a sufficiently high AOA is imposed, the smooth flow of air over an airfoil breaks up and separates, producing an abrupt change of flight characteristics and a sudden loss of lift, which results in a stall." - https://www.flightliteracy.com/load-factors-part-two/ Before the Accelerated stall at critical AoA, buffeting or other undesirable behaviours of the aircraft should be obvious to the pilot. I'm not sure I can spot these behaviours in the current FM and only the AoA indicator tells me how close I am to stall. I believe the yawing behaviour after our accelerated stall can be called incipient spin? While looking at flying instructional videos, incipient spins seem to be characterised by a sudden nose down in the direction of turn but I feel our Mig's reaction being quite different. This may be because my turn is not properly coordinated with the rudder. Just a thought
  6. Guys this thread went totally off topic. I was not discussing roll authority directly or low speed control. I was discussing specific and strange behaviour at 38deg AoA at certain speeds and not others. I even included a track. Please have another read.
  7. I've had some other odd high AoA behaviour if you guys wouldn't mind taking a look. I was reluctant to add it into bugs as it may be a 'feature' https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=267223
  8. Hi all, I've been messing around since the few small flight model changes. I'd been noticing that at high AoA you encounter a very sudden and repeatable snap into horizontal wobble. After more testing, I've discovered that it happens exactly as the AoA needle hits 38. After futher testing, I've discovered this only happens when you hit 38deg at speeds lower than around 700-600kph. If you hit 38 at higher speeds then you can hold the turn even as your speed drops below 500kph with no wobble. Any thoughts on this ? Personally, it feels a bit suspect and scripted. An obvious caveat is that I am no pilot or Mig 21 expert. Track included High AoA wobble .trk
  9. Actually just had an awesome high atl fight catching those b52s defended by a lone F5. It was great but clearly something I need more practice at .
  10. First of all I love your server and sent some cash your way recently. Secondly, are there any missions on the server that encourage high altitude combat that the Mig21 was designed for? I like hugging the ground and being sneaky IR man but sometimes I'd like to use the Mig21 for it's intended high alt intercept role. I do sometimes go high on your server mostly to conserve fuel on the way to the AO or to bypass combat on route to a A2G target but it's not all that common. I may be wrong but down low the Viggen especially, and the F5 have a bit of an advantage.
  11. Ah , that would explain why on catch me if you can, the migs have no a2a at all ( disregarding the restrictions mentioned in the briefing ). Thanks for all your work btw
  12. I'd like to know the answer too this mystery too! Although I think the flight model is good, although it looses speed a lot more in the turns than at release ( I think )
  13. Yes, I'm so pleased that Magnitude 3 ( or is it Leatherneck, they need to sort out that confusion. Not very professional looking ) is continuing their support of the fishbed. Such a shame that for whatever reason it's not been well received by the community. PLEASE Magnitude 3! Keep up the good work and don't be disheartened by the negative comments, I'm sure this issue will be resolved soon. I'd hate to imagine them reading all these comments and feeling bitter towards the DCS community.
  14. Hi The piper has settings that control it's behaviour in DCS settings. In it's more realistic behaviour is not to track the target ( as it does not in real life ) but stays centred. The green launch authorisation light is another matter that I can't help you with.
  15. Hi Bogey I just meant that by mentioning things like adjusting flight model for ease of use ( even if this is not actually the case and the comment was misinterpreted ) was a bad move and will probably inflame forums for a few weeks to come.
  16. Oh boy, Leatherneck have opened up a whole can of worms now ! As if they didn't have enough bad press already. Still my favourite in DCS though and still an incredibly popular aircraft in MP servers e.g. Cold War Server.
  17. Same here, I get that ED likes to package all fixes and updates to coincide with other major changes to the game such as module releases or major updates but this really seems to slow down the rate of hot fixes and maintenance that all 3rd party modules need. Either this is the reason for the very very slow rate of bug fixes or there is something more worrying going on at Leatherneck
  18. Not only that but on the Cold war server vs the Tiger, you regularly see over 20 players flying the Mig. That has to make it one of the most popular MP modules at the moment.
  19. Just started using AMD VSR and using scale gui same problem here
  20. Thanks, I'll try coping with a tiny UI, I think there is a mod somewhere to rescale the radio dialogue so I might be able to cope
  21. Hi I've recently started using Virtual Super Resolution on my AMD card instead of using the DCS in game Anti Aliasing. I've experienced far superior image quality and even better performance but I've encountered one annoying problem with this method. The F10 Map doesn't display at the correct resolution or aspect ratio and all map labels ( e.g. Airport markers, way points, aircraft position indicators etc.. ) move at a different rate to the base map image when scrolling the map or zooming in and out. I'd love to continue using VSR so if anyone has an answer to my F10 map problems that would be amazing.

  23. Thanks for your reply, I will be patient. Did something change in the way servers work that made blocking load outs no longer possible ? I really look forward to employing the fearsome fishbed in an ATG role on your servers.
  24. Hi, Great server but I have a Mig-21 Problem When ever I join it says the Mig-21 is currently disabled and I can't slot it. Any idea why ? I've checked the server website and searched this thread but can't find any info. Thanks
