  1. That's how F-5 pilots even the odds when fighting any of the more modern fighters. They get your location from AWACS, get down on the deck, come up on your 6 from below, and fire a sidewinder when they get a good growl. They don't use their radar because that takes away their advantage.
  2. From what I understand, SSAA is not meant to be used in VR. I also understand it isn't needed if using a monitor above 1080p. I don't use it at all. Try using it with different settings, and if you like it, use it. If you don't like it, don't use it:thumbup:
  3. I use a 4K monitor (3840x2160) with my DCS screen size in the options set to 1920x1080, with full screen checked, to ALMOST double my FPS. Unfortunitly, DCS starts in a window about 1/4 full screen. If I use Alt+Enter, the window goes to full size, but I can't mouse-click on anything. When the startup window is at 1/4 size, if I mouse-click on the desktop outside the startup window then click within the window, the window changes to full size and I can click in the cockpit. Very strange. I figure I must be doing something wrong.
  4. I bind the F10 to my joystick (Warthog). If you open your Controls settings, you'll see that there are two selections for F10. One shows the campaign or mission map, and the other shows your aircraft position on the map. I usually bind the aircraft position so that's what it shows regardless of how the mission created set it up as long as the mission allows using the F10 map (there's a checkbox selection in the mission editor that allows or prohibits using F10). Some MP servers and missions, such as Korea 1952, don't allow showing the aircraft location on the map. That is an intentional choice to enhance a realistic immersion in the server. If you click on a server, and look at the server requirements below the list of servers, you'll see on the right-hand side what the server allows. Those are the choices of the server.
  5. Seeing different results in a track is not unusual. More than once, I've played a track to watch a takeoff or landing, and the track shows my aircraft crashing after a good takeoff or landing. This has been a known issue with tracks for quite a while. I haven't been able to find any explanation for why it happens at random.
  6. Really? Well, I have never used game mode, but I imagine that the game mode keeps it at the optimum setting like in IL-2 or many othe games. In the Sim mode, you must use the throttle to maintain the rotor RPM.
  7. Make a copy of your DCS folder in your saved games directory and rename it. Then, after you do your reinstall, you can copy the specific aircraft input files into your new saved games folders. After you do that, you can start up DCS and your inputs will be all set.
  8. That's exactly what I did. I have a 4K monitor and I could barely read the text. I went into the Options System tab and selected1920x1080 for my monitor resolution and selected the Full Screen option. I don't know why it does it, but DCS window opens as a 1/4 window on my desktop. I just left-click on my desktop, and the window changes to full size. I use the mouse click method because when I do RCtrl+enter, I can't cilick on anything in my cockpit. As a side benefit, my FPS is almost twice the FPS I get when using 3840x2160 in the sim.
  9. When did you go through A-school?
  10. Oops! I'll bet someone got yelled at for that one:cry:
  11. I stand corrected then. I was Hydraulics/ Pneumatics, not Ordinance. The only information I have was from my instructors (and that was 49 years ago ). Thank you for the correction. interestingly, John McCane's second ship, from which he flew his first mission and subsequently shot down, was the U.S.S. Oriskany, and it also had a major fire a year or two before he joined it. I understand that one was caused by a flare. A carrier flight deck is a very dangerous work area.
  12. After the fire and explosions on the U.S.S. Foresstal in 1967, from a Zuni rocket that inadvertently fired (and no, it was not John McCain's A-4 that fired the Zuni), the U.S. Navy changed the composition of explosives so they have a MUCH higher "cook-off" temperature. I believe they will still cook-off at a high enough temperature, just not from fuel fires. Watching the film of the fire was required for Navy and Marine mechanics in 1969 when I went through aviation school. You could actually see John McCain slide down the nose of his burning A-4 to escape the fire (the boarding ladder had been removed to ready the airplane for taxi).
  13. Hmmm, when you hit "cancel," it will disconnect from the swarm , and continue downloading by http.
  14. How many peers in the torrent? The more peers, the faster the download. If not many are downloading, the download is slower.
  15. Try mouse click in the desktop (outside the DCS window). It should open the DCS window to full screen. I don't know how the system in DCS determines which is the main screen. Maybe it's seeing your lower screen as the main, starting it up as 1080p. I know I lose the selectable cockpit switches and such if I use Alt+Tab to expand the window.
  16. What happens to the Hornet and PG map when you switch from OB to Release or visa versa? Does it delete the Hornet and PG map from the system when you switch from OB to Release? Does it have to download the Hornet and PG map everytime you go from Release to OB? Granted, it frees up disk space to have just one install, but how much time does it take to switch back and forth?
  17. Do you have the resolution for the 1080p screen selected in the options? Is yes, the compression in your 4K screen, but not your 1080p screen is because your 4K monitor is showing DCS at 1/2 the resolution of the screen. I've never used a multi-monitor setup, so I don't know if you can set them to different values. I have a 4K monitor, but run the sim at 1080p because it almost doubles my FPS. Alt+Tab doesn't work for me because when I use it, i can't mouse click in the cockpit. Instead, I click on my desktop with my mouse. That expands the sim to full screen and I can use my mouse to click in the cockpit.
  18. Maybe that's there haven't been ANY updates to the release version? please refer to the title of this thread; "Release Version Bugs and Problems"
  19. I installed the open beta when it was first offered. As soon as I learned my favorite MP server had switched to the "Release" version because of all the issues caused by updates to the Open Beta, I downloaded the Release version so could fly on the server. I usually use the OB to fly solo and test the new updates. Having the Release version has yielded an additional benefit; the release version still has deferred shading and HDR. When I get frustrated by changes to the OB version such as the locked deferred shading or SSAA, I can simply open the Release version and use it. When I want to fly the Hornet in the Persian Gulf, without having to wait for it to be available on the Release version, I can open the Open Beta. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, and pros and cons. The Release version is the locked first OB version. I'm breathlessly awaiting the next locked OB is downloaded onto the Release version.
  20. That's a question no one will be able to answer. The Persian Gulf map and the Hornet are the first new developments to be added to 2.5.xxx beta. ED hasn't added any new modules to the 2.5 Release version since it was released, so we have no historical data on which to base an estimate.
  21. How do you access "the Master List." The only MP lists I've seen are for the specific version you are running.
  22. Did you copy your specific aircraft files, or just the profiles? The profiles must reside in the individual aircraft folders. For example, for the P-51D, the path would be "Input/p-51D/your profiles."
  23. Check out Skatezilla's GUI addon. It's very powerful and will do exactly what you ask and more. You should post this in the "2.5 Open Beta Version Bugs and Problems" subforum. This is the "2.5 RELEASE Version Bugs and Problems" subforum. Wrong subforum for your issue.
  24. Has ED implemented rain drops in the 2.5.0 release version? I thought the just recently implemented it in the 2.5.xxxx open beta version. Perhaps you should post this in the "2.5 Open Beta Bugs and Problems" sub forum.
