  1. I know this an extremely n00bish question but how on earth does one access the messages in the little white envelope icon? I've searched, obviously not 'everywhere' or I would have found it, but I couldn't. Would someone please point me in the right direction?
  2. I'm getting another SSD and want to put DCS on it. Do I copy it over to the new drive or reinstall it to the new drive? If I reinstall will it remember all my control settings? If not, where is the file that holds that information and could I copy it over? Make sense? Cheers, Ron
  3. Is this the same stratman59 that couldn't land the bloody thing a few days ago? :joystick: :smilewink:
  4. Pulling HARD back on the stick might be a bit of an overstatement. You know the point at which, on a 'normal' aircraft you would more or less let it roll out. It's at that point, or just before, that I pull the stick back firmly but gently. In any event, it seems we're getting there. :)
  5. This thread prompted me to give the Spitfire another go. Like all the other threads about landing it, they all seem to fall back on the takeoff rather than the landing of it. stratman, you are going through exactly what I've been going through...Until a few moments ago. For the first time in only God knows how many borked landings, I did two nigh on perfect landings on the trot.(I quit while I was ahead) How did that come about? All on account of what one man said. Namely Strong05 and I quote: Hallelujah!
  6. I did a paint of the L-39 Russian display team for FSX/P3D. A challenge that was!
  7. That did it. Muchas gracias. I think I was trying too hard making the mission. The way you tell it, it's a lot simpler than I imagined. Incidentally, can you tell I'm a n00b at DCS?
  8. Slight problem surfaced. Launched server which appears in the server list. Tried to join server from my player machine and was told by pop-up that 'A pure client is required'. I know my life hasn't been entirely blameless, but hey! :(
  9. Golly! Thanks, I'm loading up DCS as we speak. EDIT: Bloody hell! I'll never need another mission! :pilotfly: Until I buy an FW190, Bf109 and who knows what else? :music_whistling: Trouble is I still don't know how to go about making one myself. Hey, I know! I'll just ask you to knock one up for me. :shifty:
  10. Morpheus, many thanks for your L-39 views file. It works a treat! I'm keeping it in a safe place. :)
  11. I have managed, after many attempts, to get a dedicated MP server up and running in an OK way. The wrinkle I can't seem to iron out is how to set up three different aircraft on the same server. The compromise I have come up with is to make three separate .miz files. 1:Spitfires 2:Mustangs 3:F86s Four of each from three different airfields There is no 'mission' per se, it's simply free flying and formation practice. In truth, it's simple enough to change the 'mission' on the server to a different a/c but having them all on one .miz would be tidier. There is a step I've missed somewhere along the line but I'm danged if I know where it is! I have watched several very good videos on MP set ups but.... Just a pointer if you can. Thanks Ron
  12. I had no intention of using the brakes as stated. It seemed counter producyive to me. Your video, on the other hand is most instructive. I noted that there was a fair amount of pedal action but it didn't seem 'frantic'. You looked to me to be using the same amount of input that I use landing A2A's T-6 Texan. Oh well, keep practicing. It IS getting better I must admit.
  13. That sounds novel! I'll bet that isn't in the manual! :)
  14. Now, if you can temper that ridiculous 'wings tipping over' at the end of a perfectly reasonably landing/rollout I'd, and I suspect many others, would be thrilled to bits. I can take off, it flies beautifully, loops, rolls, Immelmanns and stall recovery all good. Approach, both straight in and military overhead breaks=good. Flare and touchdown=good(loads of pedal action) She rolls out OK (still pedalling)then Boom! Over goes a wing! Another respray. :music_whistling: i feel like an abused wife that keeps going back for more  Love this thing!
  15. Having taken off, shot down some 'Jerries', can you RTB, land and not have the ground crew do a complete rebuild ready for the next sorte?
  16. To be clear, taking off is not the problem. If it's a bit scruffy sometimes I know it was me! Believe me, I've read all the tips 'n' tricks on this forum and applied them because I will always think of myself as being the problem. On the 'curves' front I'm now back to default settings and they don't seem to be all that different. I'm starting to wonder if they are just a placebo. So far I've bought the Spitfire and the P-51D. Being a bit of a 'completist' (gotta have the whole collection) I'm loathe to buy anything else until the Spitfire gets nailed. Describing the FW-190 as trickier than the Spitfire has done nothing to encourage me to spend more. :( For the record I'm using a Warthog and Crosswind pedals both calibrated till they bled! :joystick: Anyway, enough of my moaning. Cheers, Ron
  17. Hi, This is my first post here but I've been haunting the place since I bought the Spitfire. I could have written the above quote myself except it feels like more than 15 hours! I've developed an ongoing love/hate relationship with the Spitfire in that countless times I've said "That's it! No more" only to come back an hour later for some more punishment. I'm at the stage now where I can take off a little less like Orville. (the cartoon albatross) Landing is different kettle of fish. :( Beautiful approach, good speed, nicely trimmed even(mostly) a smooth touch down. It normally goes tits up shortly after with an uncontrollable lurch to the right ending in ignominy. In the air the Spitfire is all I could wish for... To sum up, I can't believe that ED think the handling is realistic. The Mustang(the payware one) is no problem, yet it's reputation says it was a bear to take off in i.e. an overabundance of torque. Thank you for reading. At least I know I'm not alone.
