Well, as far as I understand it, the Ka-50 had a fairly limited production, and not many were made. Perhaps the limited production of the Ka-50 had something to do with ED being allowed to simulate it. In any case I can only speculate why they could do a Ka-50 but not anything else from the time period. ED have the desire to simulate Russian aircraft. With that desire in mind the only reasons you could imagine something wouldn’t be simulated would be: Cost, lack of documentation, lack of subject matter experts, legalities, lack of interest or technology. The most significant reason I think, ED are a company based in Russia and are subject to Russian law.

The Solution to F-16C’s and F-18’s in the same airspace as older types like the Mig-21 or MiG-29 could be as simple as restricting those newer aircraft types.

This exactly. The Ka-50 quickly fell out of production in favour of Ka-52.

Additionally, Russia doesn't have anything similar to US public information act which would mean it doesn't ever have to declassify documentation on obsolete military equipment. Many counties work that way (for example MiG-29B manual is still classified in Serbia).

So we are kinda luckly we get a late 1980s, relatively modern Russian rotary craft. And even with this in mind when Russian legislature about simulating modern military equipemnt changed recently ED had to step back and reevaluate how they are doing Blackshark 3.

With this in mind I highly doubt we'll be seing contemporarily equiped Russian aircraft any time soon.

Indeed! Has there been any statement by Leatherneck, why this hasn't happened yet??

Probably manpower issues. Ever sinve Magnitude 3 and Heatblur split Magnitude has been operating with very few people. I'm guessing that's why it takes so long to fix bugs or implement features.

This does guve me concern about their ability to support multiple products in the future. They are already spread very thin with 3 modules they released.

  3. I think it's not as useful of a tactic unless you are in a situation where you are running out of energy before your enemy is. But MiG-29 has two nearly overpowered engines for it's size that do a better job of keeping your aircraft under control than depoying flaps would do, so a situation where deploying flaps would be better then just pushing full afterburner is extremely rare.

You can fix this yourself, right now if you don't want to wait for the ED patch to go out.

    Edit:

    \Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\MIG-21bis\Cockpit\Systems\R_NAV_data_Syria.lua

At line 76, the problem is an unescaped ' character

    Change this

             airbase = 'Tha'lah',    -- 8

    to this

            airbase = 'Tha\'lah',    -- 8

    Does this break integrity, though?

  5. Dependong if you're willing to part with realism you could set the Ka50 into game mode. I think that will allow you 3rd person view and without losing the necessary functionaloty to fly the Ka50.

Otherwise I'd highly recommend you keep to the cockpit, where all of the instruments needed to fly and fire weapons are. Also sound cues. You know it's posible to clip the rotors into each other at high speeds and during turns in certain regimes right? You wont gwt sound cues out of cockpit.

One more thing that adds to confusion, as far as I know in the real aircraft there is no single button to change between nav, return and land everything is physical switch same goes for radar modes etc...

We will have to wait for that full fidelity MiG-29 goodness 😄 but then again we will lose some other stuff with it that are currently oversimplified, for example RWR (SPO-15) shuts off when you get someone in STT lock, so you always have to keep in mind that missiles may already be launched at you

That's odd. Why would it do that? Not like your radar is flooding your own RWR.

  7. Hello everyone,

I want to edit the back ASP texture of the MiG-21 cockpit. I've spent the evening getting GIMP to work with DCS DDS files and then opening the cockpit DDS files in Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\MIG-21bis\Textures\MiG-21_Cockpit folder. And I can't for the life of me find the file that has the black ASP texture. I have a feeling that it's the MiG21Bis_CP_006.dds file, but when I load it up with GIMP I can only seE the "BAZA" texture and a few other cyrilic letters, the rest is transparent. If I look at MiG21Bis_CP_006_RoughMet.dds, I get this orange-scale picture that looks like it has the texture in it, which is what gives me the idea that MiG21Bis_CP_006.dds could be the right texture and that maybe GIMP isn't reading it properly.

Would anyone be so kind as to ether confirm that MiG21Bis_CP_006.dds is the right file and that GIMP isn't working right or point me in the right direction?

    Thank you.

Yeah I totally agree, I'm the guy who wants the crappy nav system, and the primitive (By todays standards) radar etc. I'm mainly just pointing out that without a cohesive bluefor planeset for it fight its gonna suck a fair bit online, even on "nerfed" 80's servers where folks think just because you take away the ammram the 2005 era viper is anything like the '83 version. But then again, I've been using the 29A as "trainer" for the upcoming mig23.

Yeah, my fav is people not understanding a climb-out profile, or just using burner 100% of the time. And then always asking how is it possible that I have fuel and hour into a sortie.

Fuel managwment in MiG is possibly the most importan skill to have. Especally for MiG-29. Knowing how to manage fuel even in a dogfigt can mean the difference between 1h endurance or falling ourlt of the sky in 15 min.

  9. I will make a double post since I ran out of time during my break.

To the people who are saying that full fidelity MiG-29A would not bring anything to the table: From my point of view I think you are completely missing the point of playing aircraft sims. To me, flying aircraft in sims is more than just a combat experience. It's as much about flying the aircraft with all its quirks and oddities as it is about manouvering in BVR or VFR combat. And this is where FC3 is sorely lacking. It's good enough for combat (spefically A2A combat), but when it comes to everything else, including ground attack to some degree, but also navigation, control of secondary systems, setup and planning, it falls short by milesand it really makes for a much less interesting experience.

  11. I have 3 additional pieces of information:

    1) Setting the L-39 to either player or client in editor doesn't matter.

    2) This issue also happens with hot-startsd L-39

    3) THIS ISSUE IS RELATED TO CONTROL PRIPRITY BEING SET TO INSTRUCTOR!

To elaborate: This issue can be reproduced by setting the control priority to instructor. In this case instructor will not see any movement pilot does (though control surface deflection, switches and damage will still sync). Even if aircraft is being flown by the instructir, as soon as pilot takes iver, the aircraft will slowly stop in mid air for the instructor while the pilot keeps flying. If the instructor then takes control the pilot will again be teleported to instructirs location and the aircraft will stall and fall from thy sky due to having no speed (and therefore no lift).

WORKAROUND: Make sure that aircraft control priority is set to equal control by both pilot and instructor. In this case the server will correctly sync both players and L-39 multicrew will work as intended.

  12. Me and a friend of mine just tried to have a multcrew pilot-in-training/instructor flight across the Caucasus. The L-39C we set up as instructor priority with the gunsight removed. After starting up and getting taxi clearance it quickly became obvious that we are desynced. It looks like aircraft remains synced to the instructor server side and instructor will not see any movement on his end. The damage however remains synced and any failure caused by one of the pilots is felt by both (note felt, not seen, visually damage does not transfer). If instructor takes control after the pilot is instantly moved to instructors location. On pilots side te game begins vibrating hard to the point that it shakes itself apart form continuous bashing into the ground. Instructor only sees his annunciator light light up until aircraft becomes inoperable. We have noticed that instructor jumping out of the aircraft does not resync the pilot. Instructor rejoining the aircraft does not resync the pilot. In both cases Server-side aircraft remains on the parking.

Currently we have managed to reproduce this bug 100% times using the following steps:

    1) Place L-39C, make sure instructor has priority, remove gunsight, make sure 3D NS430 is ticked.

    2) Have instructor launch a multiplayer server. Make sure pilot joins aircraft, then instructor joins.

    3) Perform startup according to L-39C manual/quick start guide.

    4) Have pilot begin to taxi. Confirm with pilot that aircraft is taxying. Observe instructor and F-10 map to confirm aircraft is standing still.

    5) Have instructor take control. Confirm with pilot, that pilot has teleported to instructors location.

We have reproduced this 3/3 times.

I am unable to attach a track file.

    Hi.

As said, check your throttle control is full aft/closed. If not sure do some full/iddle mouvements. If not still, try tweaking the axel setup so there is a slight dead zone around the zero position.

    Saludos.

    Saca111

From what UI can see it happens if you jump into instructors seat before you start the engine up.

  14. As the title suggests: L-39C thottle cannot be set to idle. It is locked to STOP position.

I have tired switching manually and using the autostart procedure. I have also tried to bind the keybind to other buttons. Nothing has worked.

    EDIT:

I have noticed that there is a specific way to cause this bug. When taking new aircraft thrittle works but then some combination of settings and switches breakes this. I've been able to reproduce this twice out of 3 times, but I'm not sure what exact actions cause this. At the time I was following the startup proceedure from the quick start manual.

Yes I'll have to make an effort to learn scripting and stuff because the major downside of DCS for me at the moment is the fact that my created missions play the same boring predictable way every time with no surprises.

If I knew how to assign random starting locations to units and random appearance chances, every mission would be refreshingly different every time i play it.

Some guys tried to help me with it a few weeks ago but the problem is I hate computers with a passion and trying to learn gives me a headache.

By contrast, some other wargames/ sims are dead easy to randomise, but lack DCS's sensational graphics..:)

Random starting/spawning locations do require some Lua skills. However semi-random events are easy to do with ingame GUI triggers:

Let's say you want an intercept to activate 40 min into the mission.

    Place 3 groups down.

Tick late activated on all of them.

Go to triggers and create one. Set the condition to time is more and set 2400 as the nimver. This is 2400 second aka 40 min.

Set action as Set Flag 1 to random value between 1 and 3.

Create a new trigger. Set condition to flag 1 equals 1.

Set action as Group Activate and select o e of the three groups.

Clone this trigger 2x and change the conditon to Flag 1 equal 2 or Flag 1 equals 3.

Change the action to activate group 2 or group 3.

There you go. You now have a rudimentary semi-random spawn that happens 40 minafter mission start.

  16.

Thanks, I tried deleting them as an experiment but it apparently never made a blind bit of difference, the mission proceeded as normal without a hitch.

So I'm assuming they're only really meant for hardcore simmers/ wargamers/ mission creators to fine-tune things and not for mere mortals like me, so as a compromise I won't delete them or mess with them, I might as well just leave them alone..:)

Not really. Hardcore simmers and/or mission deigners can use lua scripts to dynamically influence these and augument the AI behaviour to be more realistic.

But theese are pretty basic and any mission designer should learn how to use them. The reason you might not have seen a difference is because you arent usin tacan or datalink fot EPLRS or you either gave the AI a different taks that supperseeded CAS or it simply didn't have any fround targets to kill (or weapons to kill with).
