1. Well, even though you can't go faster than M 0,96 it will for sure be a surprise when coming at an altitude of 10 meters or less in a co-ordinated mass attack from several directions in full radio silence :music_whistling:
2. Spoiler :) BIG UPDATE-8/18/2016: We are very pleased to announce Leatherneck Simulations has officially joined our growing list of Sponsors & Partners, and is generously providing a free copy of the upcoming DCS: AJS-37 Viggen to EACH MEMBER of the winning team in Round 2, along with an additional copy to be awarded to the match MVP! You read correctly- the winners of Round 2 will be proud owners of the much anticipated DCS: Viggen by Leatherneck Simulations! Thank you Leatherneck Simulations! We are honored to have you on-board! (Important note: This is is no way a promise of a release date for the DCS: AJS-37 Viggen, only that the appropriate contestants will be provided with the product once it becomes available!)
3. This is also interesting. It says about releasing bombs that the mode switch can be at SERIE or IMPULS as desired. Is it then a confirmation that single bombs can be dropped? Perhaps that is a single bomb per pylon, but still that is less than all 16 at once? Or should it be interpreted as that the switch position doesn't matter?
4. There is so much to read, and a lot for us Swedes to translate :) One funny little note I found: "If you start with full afterburner (Zone 3) the aircraft accelerates very fast, so there is a risk that you are going faster than the maximum allowed speed for extended gears before they are fully retracted" :)
5. It will work. My plan is to use any of the three alternatives listed here: * use the power from the simulator PC (then everyting will power up and down automatically) * use an external old PC PSU (cheap solution since I have a bunch of them) * Use an arcade PSU (small, lots of amps and no harness of wires that I will not use anyway)
6. Don't forget about VDV. One of the main targets for the Swedish ranger battalions was to meet the airborne assaults. I have some figures somewhere about how many IL-76's that where available, the time to fly from Soviet to mid Sweden, how many troops that could be lifted per pass and so on. As a AJ(S) Viggen pilot I wouldn't mind attacking an IL-76 or two ;)
7. I'll try to dig out old slides from my fathers archives that might give us some details regarding this. I kept some presentations he had, but I haven't got the time to go through it all yet. He served at K3, then Milostab V and later UNDS, so there are some gold to be found among all the papers, slides and films :)
8. I wouldn't bet on that ;) It will for sure be derailed at least as many times as there are weeks until release of the module. And there are plenty of more facts to share. There is a Viggen Facebook group (mostly in Swedish) with some real life pilots discussing and sharing a lot of good information. Tonight there has been a discussion about firing RB 05 missiles. Perhaps we can sum up that eventually and share here.
9. The F7 planes in the picture, did they ever get a repaint (camo) or did they stay like this during their service? I believed all AJ had the camo paint from delivery...
10. I can't see that content. It says it isnt availbable or that I have to be a member of a group or something... Anyone got a snapshot?
11. As stated already it is really hard to compare our aircrafts with NATO and WP, since they were really specialized for a very narrow usage (doctrine). So from that perspective they where the best in the world, meeting the exact demands of the time for the Swedish armed forces. That is the luxuary you get designing and building your own stuff rather than buy something (even though it might be altered in some extent for each buyer). The true result we will never get, since there wasn't any full scale conflict during that era, so the full advantages with specialised aircrafts etc was never tested. I'm pretty sure that the datalink would be a huge advantage if ever proven in battle, even though the specifications for the opponent aircraft might have been better on paper and so on. Others might laugh at our desings and concepts afterwards, when extracted from the right context. Another excellent example is the MBT STRV 103, that might seem very odd, but yet again designed exactly for a specific purpose and strategy for the time. http://i57.fastpic.ru/big/2013/1029/0b/b9543b0a700087c7d7b788cbbbca580b.jpg
12. Yes, you are probably right. We have that other example being discussed here before with the Viggen burning some spectators at the end of the runway. So from that perspective I do agree that it was stupid. My point was more that during the cold war era there was perhaps a better understanding for a risky business. By the way, that particular field is where I made my first jump. It was cloudy so the first minute or so I didn't see shit, so just lucky I didn't land in the forest nearby :music_whistling:
13. There is one incident when a Viggen came back to base with a couple of hundred meter phone wires hanging from the belly tank, after flying in the archipelago. The investigation showed that this specific wire was between two islands at 8 meters height over the water. So the pilot head was probably at around 10 meters... After that incident the new regulations was raised to 20 meters over water and 30 meters over land as the minimum altitude. By the way, the C-130 guys wanted to join the club as well ;) [ame] [/ame] That particular pilot got suspended though. 20 years earlier he would probably have been promoted...
14. Am I the only one focusing on the "JA-37Di" part? Wouldn't it be awesome if we would get that one also :music_whistling: Just flaming a thread that has been derailed countless times already ;)
15. The MAX487 chips are the only external components you need. And 2 wires. Many here have used RJ45 cables/connectors, since it is convenient, but any cables can be used. A twisted pair is probably best. I have chosen to also use some of the pairs for +5 and +12V power suply to the slave boards in the same cable. The information about how to connect and what pins to use is in the threads I linked to above.
16. There are some scattered information but to make a long story short you need some additional MAX487 circuits that takes care of the RS-485 communication. DCS-BIOS: Overview and Announcements http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=141096 DCS-BIOS Discussion Thread http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=141095 DCS-BIOS, RS-485 and hardware related http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160526 There are probably more, like one of my own threads about MIG-panels that also discuss this concept and some ideas: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=158088
17. I suppose this is where it all started... And yes, this thread is now officially derailed (again)
18. Great that you got it working, however the credits should go to McMicha that helped me with the code in the first place. Just realised that I haven't connected the landing/taxi light switch on my panel, so that behavior I haven't noticed. The landing gear is working as it should though. I'll see if I can replicate that problem.
19. Pretty sure Cobra has the same grin on his face sometimes reading all crazy shit in this thread ;)
20. Reminds me of my basic military training when we asked how far we had to walk and the answer always was "just 5 km". Two or three hours later the answer still was "just 5 km" :music_whistling:
21. Yes, I can share the Gerber files. But I just want to hook everything up and verify that they are OK first. It still happens that I do small mistakes in the design so sometimes I need to order the same pcb twice ;)
22. Finally got some time for this hobby again - having a second child had a serious impact on spare time I have learned ;) Designed and ordered the output boards that arrived today. I'm off for vacation next week, so hopefully I can stay up some late nights and get this running.
23. Thats an old bug in the export (that no one seems to bother getting fixed). http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=159671
24. I assume the original plan was to shock the community with a total surprise, since all radars where locked on the F-14 at that time. Obviously the moment of surprise is long gone by now, so who knows what they are up to now? I still believe we will be surprised in one way or another. Not just by an awesome module, but perhaps bundled with an as awesome map/scenario/mission pack. Or perhaps a new Russian fighter to meet up with? Or a complete invading navy fleet with armored and infantry units to put on the shores of Sweden? Anyway, just a Viggen would do my day any day
25. VEAO is doing as Vampire that could be put in this map as well against the MIG-15. Hopefully with an official Swedish version (J 28 ), else I'm pretty sure there would be a skin made by this community pretty soon :)
