  1. Hi,

the principle of how the helicopter works is clear to me, but the explanation from Raptor9 is general for all helicopters.

But this does not correspond to our Apache, what is in the DCS, if I remove the weight of the helicopter, without ammunition, fuel and without FSR,

it is still too slow and the comfortable control speed is at a low 125-135knots.

Moreover, after exceeding such a speed, the helicopter becomes quite uncontrollable.

At the same time, all well-known military encyclopedias mention significantly higher speeds of the loaded machine!

Please ED Apache needs flight model revision thank you.

Wasn't sure which resolution you wanted me to use, so I used my native 3440x1440 resolution with the High Preset. I also didn't really know what to do, so I flew around for a bit. Hope it helps with your comparison.

    High Preset

You'll have to setup Benchmark key binds, and then press Begin Recording to have them show up.

I understand the purpose of benchmarks, but I notice that most (all?) are testing with FC3 aircraft (Su-27, A-10A, etc), which have much lower detail in Cockpit 3D and far lower res textures. Same thing for the map, Caucasus is simpler and much better in performance than pretty much any other DLC map.

I'd say to try that with higher-detail modules, such as an F-14A/B Tomcat, F-16C Viper, AH-64 Apache (among others) and in, say, Syria or The Channel maps, to get a better representation of the real capability of the GPU in test.

I currently find the Apache cockpit the most demanding, and it doesn't even have a functional radar, but it also depends on the number of ground units on the map.

For the benchmark, I would choose the free module route in combination with a challenging mission.

Thanks to @xoxen for providing his run.

Raw data of Plasma Torture Map on RTX 4090.

    4x MSAA + x1,5 SSAA:

    Average framerate : 97.2 FPS

    Minimum framerate : 66.9 FPS

    Maximum framerate : 122.3 FPS

    1% low framerate : 53.3 FPS

    0.1% low framerate : 44.4 FPS

    Edit:
details settings as recommended by video and resolution 2560x1440.
My hw build now matches the signature.

Hi All.  So I did a little benchmarking on the 4080 this weekend.  Below are my results.  All my settings were set at high (mostly). Settings are posted below.  I ran with different SSAA and MSAA settings   This test was ran at 1440p and out of Batumi (Georgia Map) early morning with some clouds.  I tried to recreate the test each time using the F-16 by over flying the sea at 20 feet, then over some defensive units firing at me at the old cross-landing strip north of Batumi, then low level flight in the trees.  The biggest FPS impact in all cases was in the trees at low level.  Highest FPS was observed at high altitude in the 170 to 180 range.  I recorded all the test runs and debating whether or not to post on YouTube as its not a great video lol.  Below are my results.

I think I'll be using the MSAA at 4 - good balance with graphics and performance.  1% and 0.1% lows were better than the MSAA at 2.

    System:

    Ryzen 9 5900x

    64MB RAM - 3200Mhz

    GTX 4080 16GB

    Hi,

some of the most useful data I've seen so far, great job.
It's just a shame that it's not on the same trk file as the previous tests.

So I've gone and taken your second run with the updated driver, and ran another test with the track file I sent you to allow for a frame by frame comparison. Considering that our system are slightly different in terms of motherboard, ram, storage, and the fact that the track will have slight variation between runs, it's important to try and average the results and not take the values at face value.

Looking at them side by side, I'd say they perform on par with one another. I believe the slightly higher FPS on the RX 7900 XTX is due to my ram/storage configuration being slightly faster than yours, especially since both our system's aren't maxing out the GPU's to 100%. There's a couple of frames where we are at the same FPS and both cards are showing the same GPU percentage. We might have to run another test where the GPU's are being maxed out, instead of being limited to our CPU's. It might also be worthwhile to come back to this test after ED's implementation of multithreading.

On the RX 7900 XTX side of things, there's glitchy smoke as seen in the clips. I'm not sure if it's a driver, game setting or issue with the game that may be causing it, but I've only noticed the effect in the benchmark. I also think the RX 7900 XTX uses quite a lot more power compared to the RTX 4080. My card will pull up to 400W on 100% usage in other games, and I don't think the RTX 4080 will pull that high, so may be something to consider if you're in a region with expensive electricity. My card is also pulling a consistent 126W while writing this post, but I believe it'll be fixed with a driver update in the future.

Also for VR, it's been mentioned before that the RX 7900 XTX will lose to the RTX 4080 at the moment, due to driver issues. I don't have a VR headset to test with, so I can't say at the moment how the card will perform and it'll be up to someone else to test that scenario.

For my conclusion, I'd say if you're not a VR gamer then both cards perform the same and you'd be happy with either but the deciding factor on which to get will depend on price, which card are in stock and if you're willing to deal with the AMD driver problems until they're sorted.

    Hi,

can you please increase the AA value to 4x and add SSAA at least x1.5 to rerun the benchmark, thank you very much.

I've been using a MS Sidewinder FFB 2 for years now. I do own Virpil HOTAS also.

Recently, I bought the Gladiator NXT EVO with the F-14 grip because, (a) I wanted a portable all-in-one solution and (b) because I've been spending more time in the Tomcat recently. My Tomcat experience has improved considerably with the new controller.

Rather than get my sidewinder back out for using the Apache I've been trying to use the non-FFB Gladiator and all I can say is, it's not working for me anymore. I've tried the different trimmer options and I'm just not happy flying a helicopter without the FFB. The central position trimmer option, you get no response from time to time when don't fully recenter. And you lose track of where your stick and pedals are trimmed to. And the no springs, no FFB option, you literally cannot take your hand off the stick without pitching up.

ED have given us the software. Now someone (VKB or Virpil?) needs to offer suitable hardware. And we don't all want a big industrial unit only suitable for home cockpit builds.

    Hi,

from my own experience, I recommend the native VKB trim solution.

I tried 2.7 and was getting 75 to 85 degrees on 4K mode. Once it hit 90 degrees. I went back to 2.7 and cpu temperarure at 4K high only 62 degrees with hotspot about 68. All settings were in 4k on High or Ultra

Switched back to 2.7 for now, are the devs going to optimise this?

Which RTX4090 model do you have?
