  1. Hi again Bignewy

Have enabled debug mode in the Nvidea control panel and still experiencing several crashes in MP today. Can also offer some new findings:

Crash occurs within seconds of selecting a different aircraft on a multiplayer server. For example, playing Pretense, I can fly the Apache for an hour, land, and then switch to a Hornet (within the same session), re-arm and once I select air to ground mode, DCS instant crash. I've replicated this many times today.

If I restart DCS, login to the MP server and start with the Hornet, then it's fine. If I start with the Mi24 Hind and then switch to the apache in the same session, crash.

Here is the latest crash file.

Any suggestions on what I might try next please?

  2. DCS MT has been randomly crashing to desktop at different times in different MP maps and missions. Current crash was in Pretense Caucasus, in FA18, but its also been happening in the Apache, Huey and Hind. Am using TrackIR, latest nvidea drivers 551.76. There are some non-official mods installed, but it was crashing before the mods were installed so I dont feel thats related. SRS is installed and in use during the session. Frames are fine, it's just unstable and Ive no idea why.

Kindly request someone look at the attached crash log and point me in the right direction of the culprit please.

    Thanks in advance.

First I'd figure if you have bottlenecks (RAM/CPU most likely) and if it's the case, get rid of them.

All (Intel/AMD) CPU controllers have limits that cause them to throttle down under load, I'm not so versed in Intel tech but I'm quite sure they can't manage more than 4 banks/ranks, so if you have 4 X 2 ranks/banks RAM kit, your CPU will throttle down under load anyway, the other thing with Intel is frequency, the higher, the better.

Your CPU is very powerful but it can't manage fast RAM, being limited to DDR4-2933, one possibility if you're planning to compromise to get a better headset is to get a B.die kit, Cl-14, you would be able to run your RAM at least to 3200MHz, they are more expensive but worth the investment plus good value for resell.

    Intel: How to Overclock RAM.

    G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C14Q-32GTZR

Make sure your motherboard supports the RAM if you chose to go for one, better buy them full kit (X 4), not mixing up two different kits even from the same batch.

If the GSkill isn't supported look for its Corsair equivalent.

B-Die Finder  Find Samsung B-Die DDR 4 memory kits on Amazon, Newegg and many more.

In my humble opinion you already have a fast system (3.80 GHz/5.10 GHz, GTX3080) you just need to optimize it for VR and RAM is one issue you can easily sort out, last opinion before I leave you alone, once the B.die kit is fitted, forget about O.Cing the rest of your system, itself it will run at 3200MHz without O.Cing it and all channels will stay fully opened under load.

VR Headset. Think Pico4 as an alternative.

Thank you for the detailed reply @Thinder

The RAM i have is Patriot Viper Steel Series DDR4 64GB (2x32GB) 3600MHz PC4-28800 Dual Memory Kit - PVS464G360C8K   CL18 :(  You've made a good suggestion about the CPU and RAM bottleneck that I hadnt considered. Very difficult to find CL14 ram though, and at the cost, would it not be better to invest in DDR5 and a new LGA1700 CPU? How much more performance could one squeeze from CL14 over CL16 RAM?

Again, I appreciate your time and advice mate.

  4. Hi friends

Could I please trouble you for some advice?

I've been toying with the idea of upgrading my Rift S to the Varjo Aero. However, I've recently tried the Rift S in DCS again and my VR performance is still dissatisfying (flying Apache gets me 40fps on some SP maps and as low as 20fps on MP servers). So that kind of implies that my system would struggle to get the best out of the aero, if it cant even handle the Rift S. I've tried to optimise DCS settings, but feel I've hit a wall. Id be happy with a consistent 40fps on a nice VR headset.

    PC Specs

    Asus Z490 Gaming

    i7-10700KF running at 4.9G

    64G RAM

    Asus GTX3080 (mild curve overclock)

nvme drives for OS and DCS

    Win10

Openvr tells me that my CPU is the usual culprit that runs out of headroom on MP servers. And in SP, i tend to get GPU headroom limits.

In an ideal world, Id go a faster LGA1700 CPU and a 4080, but that would be a substantially big upgrade cost on top of the aero.

So, I'm not sure what to do here. Either way, the Rift S has to go. If not the Aero, then perhaps the Reverb G2 as an interim?

Would appreciate any advice on the most sensible path forward.

    Cheers

Ok whoa there Nelly, do not make edits to Scarlet Dawn right now, I have been working on an update for it and a lot of fixes and improvements have been made. Originally I was only going to make a few fixes but somehow the fires of the great forge relit and well ... Wait for said update to come out and then go ahead and edit so you don't waste your time like I do 😛

Some things to look forward to:

    1. Forrestal Carrier Group added

    2. An AI CAP flight added to the Forrestal

    3. E-2D Hawkeye operating off the Forrestal to provide better early warning to the Southern half of the map

    4. Paladin SPH added to Helo Ops build menu

    5. AI Helo patrols for red and blue

    6. Tomahawk Missile Strike radio support request

    7. Handy Wind

    8. Seawise Giant

    9. A Whole lot more 'insurgents' *cough Apache fodder cough*

    10. Moving convoys

    11. Lots of script fixes and changes

    12. Syrian Foxbats!

    13. Other stuff I can't remember right now

In terms of your editing questions, you have to be careful with how and what you change as yes, loads of stuff is interconnected via script (everything I have done is done the way it has been done for a reason). You will probably not want to move the FARP once you see the update anyway. Adding another FARP requires adding a cargo and infantry loading zone in the ME, as well as adding it into the script tables in the helo ops script. It is important that the same naming conventions are used. Helo groups must be single helo flights only or the radio menu will not work properly for the group with more than one helo in it (can't change this, it's subject to the same kind of limitations as CTLD).

You completed Phase 4? Congratulations! I'll check the logic for Phase 4 completion .... I've never made it to Phase 2, let alone Phase 4 ... so I wouldn't have a clue what happens at that point 😛

Edit: I think I'll have Scarlet Dawn's update out by next weekend, since everything I have added appears to be working pretty well now

Sounds fantastic man, thanks for the detailed reply and your on-going efforts to make this even better.

  6. @Surrexen Mate, thank you for making this superb mission! It's occupied our small team for a couple of weeks now and it's invigorated several of our bored pilots. Is there any way I can send you a paypal donation or a virtual beer as a thank you?

I've been learning the mission editor and changing some things around for our squad too (mostly successfully). We have a bug with helo trigger zones where I can spawn cargo or troops, but cant pick them up. If I switch to another helo slot i can collect them straight away. This happened after i deleted some un-used aircraft slots from the farp and moved the other farp further north. Any ideas? I guess there is some dependency baked into one of the lua scripts. Not a big deal but thought id ask.

Can you provide any guidelines about editing your missions without breaking them? For eg, do helo trigger zones need to be within a certain distance from the farp or a certain distance apart? Can we add extra farps beside Paris and London and have the scripts still work at them? I was unable to get this working (tried adding a third farp with a different name).

Also, this evening, we completed Phase 4 by capturing all the required airfields, but when we check battle phase, it says "unable to determine phase". Have checked the mission docs and googled around but couldnt find any info.

Thanks again for making these - best missions I've played in 10 years. 👍

  7. no offense fang, but its required to know how to operate a plane to play campaigns

    to answer your question:

    1) enter HSI page

    2) unselect SEQ# if you have it selected

    3) press DATA on HSI page

    4) switch to, for example, waypoint 20

    5) press UFC on HSI page

    6) press POSN on UFC

    7) enter the coordinates given by the ground observer

    8) press HSI on HSI page

    9) press WPDSG on HSI page

your targeting pod is now looking at the target building

    10) destroy the building - if you use JDAM, you need to switch it to TOO mode

i wholeheartedly recommend chucks guide if you have trouble, it teaches everything step by step with pictures. great source for learning the avionics.

the coordinates are correct, its just that people enter it into the wrong field.

This is solid advice and exactly what I did, but it still failed. JDAM dropped on the correct location but it didnt trigger. I then asked #2 to drop, but he just maintained orbit.

  8. Superb campaign! Just wanted to leave my heartfelt thanks BD. You have a natural talent for this kind of work mate and I look forward to more from you. This really helped me to learn this jet and my only wish at the end was for more missions! 10/10

    Dziękuję! :D

  9. Hi SkateZilla

Thanks for making this fantastic app. I'm having issues managing two installs - OpenAlpha and OpenBeta.

    OpenBeta works.

OpenAlpha will not open and says I need to repair DCS.exe. I can manually open OpenAlpha from shortcut (ie, it does not need repair).

I've noted that when trying to select the Build to Manage, the Current Folder version stays with the OpenBeta directory. Have tried selecting Alpha and then saving Path Settings, no joy.

    Access to Installs is verified.

    OCVzZO1.png

Am running Version 12.18.2016 of the GUI.

The DCS Updater Utility is located in the working OpenBeta directory only.

    Hope you can help.

  10. I think he means the temporary updates in the first post :)

You'll find the original Campaign directory under this directory, just unzip the downloaded ones and replace the originals with their new version until the next DCS patch is up. Perhaps today, who knows.

    <DCS>\Mods\aircraft\M-2000C\Missions\

where <DCS> is your installation directory.

Thank you for posting this info mate.

  11. Wolle,

Thanks very much for fixing the missions, its very much appreciated. The changes you've made so far are a big improvement and I've managed to complete the Liquidator mission now. Many thanks... have repped you for being so proactive with your campaign :)

Is it difficult to design campaigns like these? Id like to give it a try myself but feel bewildered even making simple missions in that editor, lol.
