  1. Moving maps look pretty crappy in most headsets. New 4k panel HMDs will probably be ok though. For now, I disable maps like those in the F18. In ka50 I don't know if you can do that. The mouse cursor problem sucks. If you go fullscreen it can happen. For me, ALT-ENTER to switch between window/fullscreen sometimes fixes it. Mostly I fly windowed to avoid the problem. Many people are hoping ED fix this soon.
  2. You can create a virtual device with vjoy and set up how it behaves with joystick gremlin. That way when you flick a ON/OFF switch to OFF, it can fire a button for you anyway. Don't need to find a ON/ON switch. I did this for my button panel, which has a mix of switch types. You don't have to do any LUA this way, and it just works whatever game you want to use it for.
  3. You should be able to get way higher than 4.3ghz. Also turn off hyperthreading, that alone can give you about 10% more single threaded performance.
  4. Hi all. I want to make you aware of someone elses 3D printed design, which looks far more elegant than mine: https://forums.mudspike.com/t/throttle-finger-lifts/9954 I might try his also, as it has idle and afterburner detents.
  5. OVRDrop. Put a second monitor into your game as a moveable window. Hotkey enable/disable.
  6. Hollywood, I have had VAICOMPRO for a long time. Couple years or more? I was never able to get windows voice recognition to work. Turns out it was my shitful Asus sound software that I installed as part of the mobo setup. At wits end, I removed this, and voice recognition worked instantly! I couldn't believe it, but there you go. Installed VAICOMPRO and now it's working really well. Didn't even need to voice train. Just wanted to say thanks for keeping up the support on this, I can finally enjoy this great app! A hands off "ready pre contact" is worth its weight in gold lol.
  7. I agree with Euan. I also bought my 5k+ about a year ago, but via Amazon. I've been very happy with it. I will get an 8kX, perhaps through amazon again. I've seen that they can make nice headsets, but still think they have a long way to go before convincing everyone their sales/marketing/support is mature.

  9. Yeah I was able to download and re-install PiTool 197 elsewhere. But I'm not sure how to flash the firmware it used? In the PiTool folder is an app called "Dfu.exe" which asks for a .dfu file. In \dfudriver is a file called p2.dfu - but that is a terrible generic name. Would that be the firmware file for 244 that I'm looking for? Nevermind, I just flashed it to see, and it is indeed the 244 firmware. So all good and back to where I was with prior performance. So there you go, each pitool deploys with a p2.dfu file in\dfudriver that seems to be the firmware for that version. Easy enough once you know, but a better file name wouldn't kill them surely.
  10. Thanks for the info. Do you know how to roll back the HMD firmware to an older version? I'm looking for whatever firmware came with 1.0.1.197 myself.
  11. Hey, thanks for the link... but that is not what I asked for. I don't want a new firmware with high refresh rate, I want standard refresh rate and my performance back!
  12. Lol your soldering pain threshold is definitely higher than mine! Looks good though. :)
  13. Thanks. I bought these, nice and cheap and do the job pretty well. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/173707586001 You can spend a LOT on buttons if you want to. The rest of the 2 and 3 position switches were relatively expensive, mostly good ones from Akihabara.
  14. So I did a stupid thing - I tried the newest PiTool (258) for my 5K+, despite 197 working pretty well. First thing it did was update the firmware, and now I've lost 15fps! I uninstalled PiTool and went back to 197, which got me 5fps back. But what I really want is to know: how do you install old versions of firmware?!? I want my full fps back. I want whatever the latest firmware was, as of PiTool 197. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks.
  15. I wanted a control panel for DCS that wouldn't be a pain in the butt to setup and remove. So after some work I ended up with this. The key part is cheap extendable rails from a local hardware shop. https://www.bunnings.com.au/goliath-standard-drawer-slide-pair-300mm_p4020967 I found some cupboard hinges that slot in perfectly, bolted them on the end, and there you have it. Sorry, can't embed the link? Comes up as error. https://flic.kr/s/aHsmKzwgg5 The buttons and switches fit into 3D printed parts, which made it MUCH easier to install. Just hack out large squares from the face plate and slot them in. Had to paint the buttons white so I could see them in VR at night. Black on black is hard to see, who would have thought it? Printed some labels onto transparencies for the UFC. 2 Leo Bodnar 64 for everything. Joystick gremlin combines them into a vjoy device for output, and lets on/off and on/off/on switches, which don't fire a signal when going to 'off' to fire a virtual button. This makes it easy to bind in anything without having to script further. It works well, and might give someone some ideas. Lord knows I've gotten enough ideas from this section! Fly straight.
  16. You should do 2 things: First, buy fpsVR and install that. It will give you detailed info on cpu and gpu performance. You can tweak from there and then decide if a new cpu is needed. I think your cpu is fine tbh. Second, run as many system tweaks as you can, if you haven't already. Search "2.5.6 vr optimizations" on youtube. This will likely give you more of a boost than a system upgrade.
  17. Lots of us have lost fps with 2.5.6. Recompiling shaders helps of course, but it doesn't restore our prior performance. It was about 15fps higher in 2.5.5 for me. We can only hope that ED gets those frames back for us in future patches.
  18. I'm getting weird night time lighting glitches. Don't know if this mod is responsible or not. Just as a fyi, so you know in future. If I use default zoom (no zoom, normal view), I get a grid of lines, like strobe lights, across my view. Close one eye, and half the lines go away. Close the other, the perpendicular lines go away. If I zoom in at all, the glitches go away and the view renders perfectly! Pimax 5k+, shaders mod for 2.5.6 (duh), PP is off. Daytime flight is fine, no glitches. Any ideas?
  19. You might not have removed the old shaders mod properly? Uninstall it, repair dcs, clear your fxo and metashaders folders, reinstall, try again.
  20. I also used the shaders mod that was released recently, using a subset of kegetys changes to keep mp IC. It was really good. Is it much work to make 2 versions? One with IC, one without? In any case, thanks for your great work. This is a fantastic mod.
  21. Thanks Tygaris! I updated DCS and the shader mod no longer worked. I tried your shader update and it's all good again. Not quite getting the fps I was before, but that could be due to the new DCS or shader options you had to remove. Appreciate your work. :)
  22. It's not PP. I see the same thing as OP in my 5k+. Something changed with NVG in the last update or so.
  23. Loving my 5k+ with DAS, and will get an 8kX. Wide FoV is just too good for immersion! I don't think I can go back to the ski mask view of other headsets. I was worried a 1080Ti wouldn't be fast enough for 5k+ in DCS, but I'm getting 50-65fps in most situations. (Shaders mod, tweaks, etc). I'll get 3080Ti when available and run 8kX in upscale until then. The upgrade store page for existing owners looks interesting. 200USD cheaper. But then I have to pay for shipping to Australia, and then get hit with 10% GST. So might as well just wait for amazon and get hopefully better warranty support if I should ever need it.
  24. Shack, did you get to try it in upscaling mode, or just native mode? Or did you get to compare it to the 8K+ in DCS? I'm interested in what difference you get when upscaling versus native rendering.
