  1. Yes, although my previous "low altitudes" comment needs a revision I admit, with "low" being a relative term (especially when flying on Nevada map! ). On Caucasus one in a free flight mission, +4 @2300 suggested by Holbeach is possible only above 5500 ft, cause that's where throttle levers are forward enough.
  2. Playing Devil's advocate, some manufacturers clearly did just that for whatever reason. Spitfire is the most obvious example - check any picture of a any version of Spit flying, restored or historical - you'll see they all fly with elevator slightly down (about +1 div nose-heavy was standard cruise setting) - it's almost a visual trademark of this plane and I'm glad that DCS , unlike Il-2GB, portrays it accurately on both flight model and animation level. Same for all Bf-109 versions requiring more or less nose down trim to fly level. For me, as this thread starter, these flight properties seem somewhat strange I admit, but if original manufacturer's drawings or flight test data (especially trim curves) show that's the way they were, then who am I to argue. We can only test fly in ISA conditions, trying to match the loadout configs from these charts and see if DCS model matches test results closely enough.
  3. ^ Plenty of tearing and stuttering for me on my monitor when not V-synced (or when fast-synced), plus, I use TrackIR so 60 fps is a necessity to get rid of stutters. "Your mileage may vary", however, with so many configs out there...
  4. I get the nudging approach, I agree with it and I see Yo-Yo nudging him allright. Your "are you for real?"' tone on the other hand was nothing more than a condescending response to a valid question, not adding anything to the explanation of the issue. The "there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers" phrase comes to mind. Besides, if he bothered to investigate the graphs, calculate the indicator-to-tab angle ratio and search for the formula for a start, that in itself shows me he wasn't just interested in getting a straight answer on a silver plate, but at least made some effort to understand something - I don't know where your "carrying entitled person over a doorstep" came from then. One cannot argue with wartime measurements and charts either, though, especially when they provide more data about the plane configuration than the video. So I kind of understand why Yo-Yo implemented things the way he did, but why the restored KA114 controls seem to be rigged in a different way remains a mystery.
  5. ^ Or even easier for those of us who use 60Hz monitors and V-Sync, one can Alt-Enter between full screen and borderless windowed to switch between 60 fps and some higher value and see what happens with trim speed then.
  6. +7 @ 2650 is for "max continuous", but I've noticed that at least in cruise flight at low altitudes, one can get down to +4 PSI without triggering the sound just by using much lower RPM. About 2000 will do.

In both high school and at the uni, there were teachers who were feared yet widely respected (even by, let's say, difficult students), and these who seemed to be more interested in showing off their "ubermensch" ego to dirty peasants on the other side of the lecture hall, with teaching being a second priority. Brems, if you're so fond of puzzles, you can deduce which category you're closer to. Not everyone on this forum has an aviation or even engineering education/proffesional background. But I digress... Let's go back on topic. @HolbeachIf I understand correclty, those 4 ticks down are for aft limit of CoG - wherebaouts of 32% MAC? I guess we could try to figure outt how to simulate such a radical loadout config in DCS (if it's possible at all). We don't have bomb bay tank implemented, but maybe a mix of pair of 500-pounders and empty ammo containers in the nose will do? That should move CoG aft quite a bit.

  10. Does it happen in all missions? Some stock missions override special settings, the training ones for example, or multiplayer ones where host uses different settings than client.

Hello there In a couple of posts scattered all over the threads in this section, there have been doubts voiced about amount of elevator trim required to keep DCS Mossie flying level (mind you, a different topic to the "sensitivity" one). In some youtube videos which show restored KA-114 being flown, we can see a couple of times that trim settings of between 1/3 and a half division nose down were used for cruise (and sometimes for the takeoff as well). Examples can be found here: and here: That is very different to "our" Mossie, which on non-FFB joysticks requires about 2.2 divisions of nose down trim to fly level, or even more on FFB sticks as shown in the other thread. We don't know what loadouts were used in the real flights seen above and what power settings were applied (at least I didn't investigate these vids frame by frame to try to catch a glimpse of tachos and boost gauges). That being said, to cover wide range of comparison possibilities, I performed two test flights in DCS, with two very different loadouts and three chosen power settings. The same weather conditions and the average altitudes were chosen. 1) Case 1 "light" - 25% fuel only, no ammo for guns, three power settings: 7 PSI @ 2650 RPM, 9 PSI @ 2850 RPM, 18 PSI @ 3000 RPM. Trimming for level flight after every power change, Indicated speeds reached with radiators open were about 240, 270 and 320 mph respectively. First screenshot shows pitch trim required. 2) Case 2 "heavy" - 100% fuel plus drop tanks plus bombs plus full ammo, three power settings as previously, triming for level flight as previously, speeds reached were about 230, 250 and 310 mph respectively. Second screenshot shows pitch trim required. Even though there surely were some minor trim differences between all these phases, not clearly detectable on a rather simple and coarse trim indicator, they were all around 2.2 div. nose down. @Yo-Yo, could you please investigate the issue, or explain what the reason for this discrepancy compared to KA-114 might be, or post trim curves data the flight model was based on to cut the speculation why we see what we see?   12. Once you buy any DCS product, fire up DCS and click on module manager icon on top of the main menu. A window will pop up asking if you want to install the newly acquired module. Just click yes and proceed further as prompted. Mind you, Spit is a rather difficult plane to handle if you're new to DCS (especially on the ground), so I'd rather practice with Mustang first, which is infinitely easier to operate. Edit: as an alternative, you can try every single product available in ED web shop for free for two weeks - that's the safest way of figuring out if this or that plane is fun for you.
  13. FM is consistent, but the weather and elevations are not. The difference in wind speed is not huge, but you've got right crosswind a bit towards the nose on the Caucasus mission and tailwind slightly from the right on Normandy one, so the plane will react noticeably different. Creating your own no-wind missions for practice purposes is the best option then and it's quite easy to do it in full mission editor, give it a try.

Even though I don't use stock skins really, these look awesome on previews and If they're made by the venerable Master-Mustang-Nitpicker himself ;), It would be a shame not to have them in one's DCS install. Downloading now! Thanks a lot. EDIT: after a quick test flight, I do have an improvement suggestion, however. You textures seem to be lacking the fake ambient occlusion layer in the wheel wells (haven't looked into radiator ducts yet). That does cause an effect where they appear lit flat all around with no depth or shading present. Originals were better in this regard - comparison shots below (yours on top, stock ones below).
  15. You mean when still in the air, or after ditching the aircraft? You'll always die when bailing out over water. Swimming, dinghys and whatnot are generally just not modelled in DCS for the time being. As for the bailout in the air procedure, jettison the side hatch by pulling the emergency jettison handle and press the bailout command for the first crew member, then switch to the second position and do the same.
  16. They used to work allright but got broken (with a couple of other functions) when 2.7 was released. Waiting for an official fix since April then, but in the meantime, you can use Dawger's unofficial one, linked to at the bottom of this thread: While you're at it, search for his fix for broken air filter lever bug as well, otherwise you'll be flying around with filter stuck ON all the time, reducing your power output up high.
  17. Reinstalling is rather a last resort solution, usually not necessary. Runnig a repair command (linked to in start menu shorcuts for DCS) helps in most cases. Neither of above works, however, if source of the problem lies somewhere in your personal settings folder, because this one's not affected (ergo "fixed") by reinstall or repair. I suspect that's what happens here. The location is C:\Users\[your user name]\Saved Games\DCS (or DCS.OpenBeta - you should have both I presume if you installed stable and Open Beta DCS side by side?). If the view in your stable version is OK and it's messed up in OB, then I'd compare their respective \Config\View sub-folders and make sure the latter is the same as the former. If that still doesn't help, you can temporarily rename/remove other sub-folders and see what happens (...or just copy all content from Saved Games\DCS to \DCS.Openbeta if you don't care about separate logbooks, campaign progress or whatnot). Experiment at your will, just make backups first.
  18. Starting up manually can be quite a bit faster than using auto anyway, so that's the only way around I'm afraid ;). That oil dilution issue is more PITA, however... I'm going to fire up the sim today to double check if maybe, just maybe it was fixed in some recent patch.
  19. About 2,2 divisions nose down, but that's with non-FFB stick (Thrustmaster Warthog) at usual power settings (between +7 lbs and +9 lbs of boost and ~2600 to 2800 RPM).
  20. ^ It will matter IF autostart script runs on-time rather than on-condition, ie. keeps the starter engaged only for so and so seconds no matter what actually happens with the engine (that's my speculation, though, I've never investigated how this thing's scripted). Just like in other DCS warbirds, in cold temps it takes longer for the engine to crank, so that might be the culprit. I tried auto-start only twice or so in the P-47 and it worked fine, but that was in summer missions. On a side note, do you really need to have the mission set to freezing temps? Keep in mind oil dilution is probably still not implemented in the -47 (last time I checked it still wasn't) and thus it takes a loooooong time to get the oil to minimum safe pressure, which is absolutely critical in this module before takeoff.
  21. ^ Well, good for you if you feel this way, but you and NineLine seem to be the only ones claiming that it's OK. "It works" - yes, it kind of does, for how long, though, before VVI goes up or down again? Half a minute if you're lucky? Also, If you actually read carefully all the posts related to the subject in various threads, you would notice people have been writing more than once about tapping the switches / buttons / keys indeed. We know how to do it thank you very much because we've been doing it since 2017 (Spit release, followed by Thunderbolt, both with very responsive elevators). If ED themselves implemented slower rotation on pitch trim wheel in the Spitfire for the very purpose of providing more precise trim control, there's no logical reason why they can't do it in the Mossie.

  23. ^ No, DB is correct. The plane was restored by Meier Motors back in 2016, from Merlin-powered Buchon which was damaged in an accident. A DB605 was used during reconstruction and it flew like that until two or so years (?) ago when it was converted back to Merlin for operational cost reasons (it's been used as a trainer for Messerschmitt Foundation pilots and any pilots who need to be cleared for flying the 109).
  24. Tried that on Nevada map, plenty of high buildings in Vegas ;). Guns work in active pause indeed. Wasn't precise about the measurement I admit (more interested in ballpark figure), but impact points and pipper seemed to converge around 900-1000'ish yards (give or take 200). Seems awfully far, but plausible actually when we see tracers always flying quite a bit above the pipper, way higher than in any other DCS warbird. Guns set for ground strafing rather than air to air engagements maybe? The only way to confirm is by making a mission with a straight flying target drone, icons on and do some shooting at long distances.
  25. I don't understand it either. I use controls sync and have the same issue, but with full right rudder, while ailerons seems to be OK.
