  1. Out-fricking-standing work. Given how much time is spent doing carrier landings, the implementation of hook physics and burble is sure to make this an even more satisfying experience. Quick question - have you guys figured out what was causing the DCS crash when choosing Tomcat slots? I use Bankler's Case 1 mission to practice carrier landings (you guys should totally include it as a tutorial mission!), but DCS crashes every time I try to choose a new slot within the mission.
  2. May as well post my issue here, as I'm getting full DCS crash when joining a Tomcat slot in Bankler's training mission. It sadly now causes my DCS to crash 100% of the time whenever I choose another slot for the Tomcat to respawn in the air. It's done it 5 times in a row now. Note that I have been away from DCS for a few months, so am running a clean install, latest beta, with Voice Attack, SimShaker and DCS UFC script plug ins. I've never had this problem before, and have logged many, many hours using this mission. I haven't tried any multiplayer yet, but other DCS missions seem to run fine - but they don't require me to change slot. It's only when I use the slot-change feature that it's causing my DCS to just hang. So badly in fact, that I have to hard reboot my PC. dcs.20210428-112320.crash
  3. It's a full crash - sometimes I can't even shut down DCS, and have to do a full reboot. I've attached my crash log - halp! dcs.20210428-112320.crash
  4. Firstly, let me say I LOVE this mission. Huge help for Tomcat drivers like me. Thank you for creating it. DCS doesn't seem to be generating a new crash log when this happens either - the date on it is several days ago. Any ideas, as I really need this baby to get me back into shape so I can fly with my squadron - right now my landings are a red-hot wave-off mess!
  5. Thanks mate - he is recognising Next channel, and Previous Channel, but that's it. I didn't do the keyboard.lua stuff though. I'll go through the readme again to check what I've missed.

  7. Hey bud, just reinstalled after being AWOL for a few months and getting a new PC build. Jester no longer recognises "Push button X" or "Jester Channel X", which was the main reason I use your profile. Did the ability to command Jester to change radio channel get removed?
  8. Have you installed AIRIO or VAICOM? Both are known to cause this.
  9. This. Would be great if there was a dedicated, detailed tutorial - anywhere - on how to maximise Jester's potential. Sure, there's the occasional forum or reddit post, but after two years, there still isn't detailed information on how to best use him, which would be so useful for front-seaters who don't want to learn the back seat too.
  10. The 11900K is currently the best CPU on the market for DCS thanks to its 5.3GHz single core boost speed and IPC improvements. It's also got better "lowest fps" performance compared to AMD, meaning games hit higher minimum fps on Intel compared to the 5900/5950. Obviously AMD destroys Intel at multithreaded software, but the vast majority of games don't use more than four cores, let alone eight. So I'd be happy with what you've got, as currently there isn't anything better, for DCS at least
  11. I'm glad I'm not the only one confused by the indicator! I'm guessing we're reading it incorrectly though, as such an obvious issue would have been picked up long ago. Having said that, so how the hell is the ball meant to be read?
  12. Do you have any thoughts yet on whether the reprojection algorithm used by the HTC Vive Pro 2 is better than the WMR for SteamVR one? I'm particularly sensitive to reprojection artefacts, such as heavy ghosting of moving objects such as other aircraft, as well as stuttering of the terrain - I'm very keen to hear how these compare to my G2.
  13. Apologies for not replying sooner to your message - thanks for taking the time to benchmark the impact SSLR has on your system. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the DCS community-think tank is full of absolutely contradictory information when it comes to performance tweaking... don't even get me started on the VR guides Your results are really interesting - it would appear that SSLR and SSAA are either/or - enabling both incurs a severe performance hit. I'll see how it impacts my setup... once my new RTX 3090 arrives, as my first one died on me last week. I also wonder if the Tomcat cockpit in particular is severely taxing for SSLR due to the high detail PBR textures?
  14. I recently read that wake turbulence is actually very CPU intensive, and should be disabled in missions where there are a lot of aircraft. So applying the same algorithm to clouds might cause a huge performance impact. Besides, flying through clouds IRL often has no impact on the outside airflow whatsoever - I often feel no bumps or movement when passing through a cloud layer in a light aircraft when flying in the real world. On the other hand, I do think there should definitely be turbulence in cloud types that are associated with it IRL. The fact that clouds don't impact the handling at all, ever, is a bit of a bummer. Imagine how cool it would be to have to avoid storm cells due to severe updraughts, or actually have to worry more about icing when passing through clouds?
  15. Ahh, that makes perfect sense. Thanks for explaining. Looking forward to more reports too - the fact it can run at 120Hz might make 60fps with reprojection a relatively smooth experience.
  16. I'm a little confused by this - doesn't the Vive Pro 2 have even better resolution than the Reverb G2 at its highest (Extreme) setting? Therefore it should offer a clearer image?
  17. Jeebus, 1000 lines of code for such a simple task is, well, mind-blowing. I am atrocious with the mission editor, so leave it to more talented folk like you to create them. After hearing the amount of coding you had to do for that kind of mission, I'm even less tempted to try it out. So, from us non-mission building folks, thanks for giving us so much more to do in DCS!
  18. To be honest, I reckon I'll easily get a solid 50 hours of enjoyment just out of doing standard flight procedures - start-up, taxiing, nav, IFR, etc. To me that justifies the cost of the module already. However, to use it as a combat platform in the way it was intended, I think flying with a squadron with custom-built missions will be the only way to go. Which is basically the same as every other DCS module.
  19. As an RTX 3090/11900K/G2 owner, what's the suggested setting I should use for this now? Enabled or Disabled?
  20. Yep, a guide to using Jester would be amazing. I'm surprised nobody has created one yet.
  21. Hey speed, I've got some thoughts about your benchmarking, but I can't send you a PM as it looks like you've disabled private messaging on these forums. Are you able to message me so that I may send you my thoughts? I worked as a PC benchmarker for almost 20 years, so have a bit of experience that I think could help with your incredible guide. No worries if you'd rather not though.
  22. And that's exactly why I stopped using VR in DCS. I spent more time flying the options screen than in the cockpit. Every six months I buy the latest and greatest PC hardware to see if I can get good VR performance in DCS (currently running a Silicon Lottery 11900K @ 5.2GHz, along with an RTX 3090 overclocked by 10%, and a Reverb G2), and it's still not good enough for *me*. I also try it out every few months if there's a major update to WMR, or DCS, to see if the software has solved the issue. But until I can get 60fps minimum with graphics quality settings that I like, I won't use VR. However, as we've seen different people have different preferences. Many are already happy with VR, and can't go back to 2D. Personally, I find my TrackIR + 55" LG C9 a much better experience, but I do look forward to the day when the DCS VR experience is perfect. I think it's within five years.
  23. Given the way DLSS basically upsamples a low-res image, I don't think it's compatible with games that have a long draw distance, such as DCS, Read Dead Redemption, etc. It's very obvious even in titles like Cyberpunk 2077, which has a relatively middling draw distance, that far-off details are for the worse overall. I'd love to be proven wrong, as I have an RTX 3090 that gets a huge performance boost with DLSS in compatible titles, but sadly I don't think DCS is going to get such an easy performance increase for minimal coding effort.
