Hey guys! I bought Lock-On Gold last month, but my old joystick made trying to aim at anything just way too frustrating (plus it’s really hard to aim, while constantly trying to find the right key on the keyboard).
Plus this sim is HARD! You need some sort of degree in rocket science just to get through a mission. It’s really no fun getting creamed all the time just because you can’t fly (or aim) well enough . . . so I went back to MSFX (with its horrid FPS studders).
But I was really good this year, so Santa put one of those sexy Saitek flight control systems under my tree. And it works sooo much better than my old Sidewinder that I decided to try flying the A-10 again.
But since plugging in this gismo, I’ve been spending most of my free time just trying to program the darn thing. At first I tried using the profile that came with it, but could never figure out what button to push.
So I decided to make my own profile. I really had no clue what I was getting into, nor did I know at all what I was doing at first (no blonde jokes please). I just kept trying different key combinations, and then ran the sim, only to find that it usually didn’t work like I wanted it to. But eventually I finally got things set up so that I can now control the A-10 pretty well and was actually able to hit some of the stuff that I aim at.
Anyhoo, I’m still having issues with some of the twisty knobs (rotators?) and can't seem to get the zoom to work without being all jumpy and it only zooms from in the cockpit.
I tried assigning zoom (NUM* and NUM/) to the throttle hat, but when I try to zoom out, I get beamed miles away from my plane, and zooming back in just slams me right into the paint.
