  1. You know NineLine, I'm not the only one that has noticed you have a tendency to constantly white knight for the devs at every turn and stifle any meaningful criticism that comes their way. Now, I wasn't trying to rag on Check Six Simulations or any other devs for that matter. Obviously, the more content and content creators, the better. What I'm trying to do is explain why I for one won't be purchasing yet another WW3/War Game scenario map, so that when decisions to make the next terrain come up, they can be better informed. And as I've mentioned, I've been playing this game since I had to load it on a floppy through DOS and I have spent enough money on ED products to buy a bloody super bike by now. And that's besides the fact I have created a massive amount of free content for this game at my own expense, so I would appreciate being allowed to put my two cents in without being reprimanded by the likes of you... Thanks!
  2. If a war actually broke out in Norway, it would be mayhem. And I highly doubt there are going to be small sale insurgencies happening there anytime soon...
  3. Yeah, Vietnam should wait for Vulcan as far as I'm concerned. As you rightfully mentioned, it was a high intensity conflict. Trying to accurately replicate it is just impossible as things stand. We need areas of low intensity conflict right now. Papua New Guinea would have been a far better option than Australia if you ask me. And Australians have done a lot more fighting there than on their own north coast. But if that's what they want to do, that's fine by me. But I will be voting with my wallet this time around. It genuinely annoys me having to fly over areas that are heavily defended in reality, but are dead in game out of necessity. You'd think we'd have at least one terrain by now that isn't in a highly militarized area. And then to hear the announcement of three new theatres that all follow the current trend is just disconcerting and I feel like we're not being heard... I mean it would be nice to actually be able to go do a sortie in one of our numerous light fighters without being immediately obliterated by an SA-10 or spamram. And aircraft like the F-5 and MiG-21 are still relevant front line fighters in Africa to this day. Mainly because Africa is not peppered with countless air defenses like the rest of the planet. But if the devs want to shoot themselves in the foot because they want to do what they want and not what is needed, then they can suffer with low sales... Because if we have to continue to play "pretend", then we have enough terrains to do that already. And that's besides the fact my install is already 500+ gigs and I don't have space to be squandering on more maps I can't even run a realistic scenario with...
  4. Three new maps, all of which as per usual are extremely heavily defended by complex SAM networks and dozens of air bases... Yet we still have nothing for the most war ravaged continent on Earth...? When tf are we going to get somewhere in sub-Saharan Africa!? You literally can't realistically populate any of our current map choices without destroying your frame rate. Are we ever going to get somewhere that's not bristling with air defenses and huge frame destroying cities? We need something that lends itself to small insurgencies and PMC deployments. Not another world war! ie: Somewhere like Sierra Leone, Angola, Kenya or the Congo. It just makes so much sense, especially considering the modules we now have. There is like a decades worth of threads calling for an African theatre, yet they have all gone unnoticed by ED and the rest of the dev community. Literally, not so much as a comment... (Yes, I've read them all) And if that is going to continue to be the case, I'm just going to boycott ever new map until we get something actually freezable for the current years hardware. And before you tell me its not about what I want, actually, yes it is. I'm the customer, and one of the most loyal ones at that. I've been handing over my hard earned dosh to ED since their first year in business (yes, I'm old af) and have bought virtually every product they have ever released. And not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I'm honestly I'm starting to get tired of being ignored...
  5. Amazing work! This looks better than some of the payware we have... This is gonna be great for Operation-Z!
  6. Sweet! I was hoping you were going to sort it out... SAAF Mod.zipAnd if anyone wants the new flag replaced with the old one, unzip this and drop it in JSGME...
  7. Yeah, I've been harping on about this for years... I'd be happy with anywhere in Sub-Saharan Africa, although I reckon Southern Angola would be the best bet. We should see the MiG-23 and the Mirage III sooner or later, and a Cheetah-C is also in the pipes and there will be no better playground for that. We already have North and South America, Europe, the Caucasus, the Pacific and half Med and Middle East. It's about time we get Africa! You know, the unstable war ravaged continent that has endless mission scenarios... It's such a no brainer, I can't understand why none of the developers have taken more of an interest in it...?
  8. I can get it to work, but it will only correct for pitch though. So you basically have to use your rudders to line up because if you adjust the roll axis with your stick, it disengages the ACLS.
  9. This is a great mod, but there is one thing missing... And they've seen so much action too. Seems a pity to leave them out.
  10. Yeah, that's what they said about the F-1... I'm still waiting. Tried to sort it out myself, but I think the encrypted .dll is preventing the game from starting... And in that case, I suppose we have no choice but to wait.
  11. Such a pity you can't use it for 2.7 now that the Falklands is out. I wonder if we can't get it to work as just AI for the time being, cause I doubt we're going to see the pay ware version any time soon...
  12. Just messing around with a terrain mesh for Lubango...
  13. Yeah, it was supposed to go into production, but you know... eish hibo! No munies.
  14. Yeah, I have thought about that. But the area I've marked is already 850 000 square kilometers. That's already a massive undertaking considering the vast majority of it is landmass and not ocean. tbh, I'd like to go as far north as Luanda, but that's a lot of extra area. Suppose we could just keep the coastal area detailed that far north though...
  15. Probably my old account. I got your handle off Nigel, so I'll send you an invite now...
  16. Anyways, why are we typing like a bunch of boomers? Can I send you a link to my Discord...?
  17. Yeah, I'd prefer the 326 to the 339. I'll take a pair of 30mil cannons over a back seat driver any day of the week... An SAAF F-1 would also be awesome. Ours had a HMD. But sure, I'm reckon the Israelis modified the throttles before they found their way to us. Suppose, unlike the Mirage the Cheetah had two MFDs, so they had to add some extra buttons. And you forgot the MiG-15, Mi-8, Mi-24, L-39 and Su-27, which Angola flew/fly. And the SAAF flew the Sabre, Mustang and Spitfire too. Executive Outcomes also operated Su-25's and Mi-24's. Not to mention we have all the Red ground assets already. It makes no sense to me why not one of the dev teams has ever mentioned the Border War. It spanned 3 decades... How has it already been forgotten...?
  18. Cool. Well hopefully that pans out. Would love a decent Cheetah! I'd honestly settle for a Cheetah with a Mirage 2000C cockpit. It's pretty close. You probably already know this, but the C already uses the M2000 stick and throttle. A Rooivalk skinned Apache would be pretty cool too... If we actually had a map for it anyway. As to a bit of interest, I've been harping on about Angola for what feels like the beginning of time. Just ask Stratos... And I've seen so many threads over the years about the border war. It's about time something is done about it. I was in contact with the guy that did the Armscor mod for Arma3. He did some really nice SADF vehicles that could be ported over. Only thing is, I lost contact with him when I deleted my facebook account after my millionth ban for literally nothing. He's in Australia now, but hopefully he can still be reached.
  19. Ahh, so I take it your involved with the Cheetah-C project then...? I've been trying to get the manual for that thing for years now. Been through every avenue I can think of, but it's so far proven to be more elusive than a sasquatch. Anyways, yeah. We would need to prove to ED we're capable. The Cheetah mod might be a good place to start, although that TurboSquid model is going to need a little work. OP obviously has some good experience, although who knows if he'd want to be involved...? I can't show much I'm afraid. I worked as an Illustrator for an infographics firm and I've done a few DCS mods, but not much else really...
  20. I assume you guys kept all your old research and satellite imagery? Because that would seriously speed up the development of an actual terrain module. And I think the only way Angola is coming to DCS in our lifetimes is if we actually just built it ourselves. But that would require a license from ED and their terrain tool... And a lot of our lives. I'm down for it though. I work my own hours and am quite quiet over the winter, so I could happily graft away for a significant portion of the year, if this was to move ahead. No way I could go it alone though. I'm pretty clued up with illustrator and know my way around photoshop, but I have little experience with programming and 3D modeling. I do a tiny bit of LUA scripting for DCS missions and make simple things for my 3D printer, but that's about as far as it goes. Don't ask me to build you a battleship or something... I honestly don't think I'd be good for much besides the more monotonous things like tracing out satellite images, placing objects and making textures etc. I do have a brother who is an experienced programmer and 3D modeler, who also occasionally plays DCS, but he's always "busy" and getting blood out of a stone is easier than getting him to lift a finger. Still, he could prove pretty useful should I get stuck along the way... So if anybody else is keen to bring this terrain to reality, and maybe make a little dosh once it's done, lets put a team together and propose it to ED. 'Cause I for one am done waiting!
  21. As cool as that would be, ED would never allow it. There whole ethos is realism. Now a modded map of say the Caucuses or Syria would be fine, but you'd still need their software to Africanize it. However, there's no way in hell they'd hand it over for a vanity mod project. I honestly think the only way we're going to see Africa become a reality in DCS anytime soon, is if we put together a competent team, propose it to ED and just get on with building it ourselves. And in that case, I'd definitely go for Angola/Namibia. The area I've boxed below is about the size of Hormuz and has some epic terrain. It's also where the vast majority of fighting took place and would be the perfect hunting ground for MiGs and Mirages. Drop a little dosh on some TurboSquid models for a bonus vehicle pack and I guarantee you it will be a great seller once people see what their missing...
