  1. I am reading on news that the flight was at 200feet, there are also youtube videos of the incident but I cant make out the airplane tough you can hear the AAA firing and the people pointing almost horizontally (presuming they show the plane) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zofoEWJWeJE I hope the pilots are OK but what the hell were they doing flying such an aggressive route? showing off for themselves or showing off for Turkey?
  2. Now you do that on purpose, I would really love to see the 23 model. In my heart it wins hands down the raptor..... IRIS: YF-23 would be awesome!
  3. OK thank you for your time, much appreciated. I just hope that as a server I will not have to purchase vendors model so my clients will be able to fly them in my missions.
  4. So I can allow for Cool Cat's F15E and ban Hot Dog's F15E without having purchased either?
  5. OK so there is such a mechanism to "bann" certain models or to "allow" only certain models? excuse my ignorance but I haven't had the chance to install dcs world.
  6. this is something that should be included in the mission builder, to allow for model fluctuations (so you don't always fly with 100% plane). But the question still remains, what is the limit of allowing different models of the same airframe. Don't stick on the 20knott difference but think of the principle.
  7. lets say that producer A decides to do an X-wing and its accepted into DCS and then a producer B decides to do the X-wing again and is also accepted into the world. there will be some differences between the two, just for argument shake lets say they will have a 20knot difference in max speed or a slightly different turning rate. How will DCS handle this situation? a) you will allow both? b) you will only allow the more accurate? c) ...????
  8. there you have it written between the lines, multiplatform. I am going through my second decade as a developer having worked on both C++ and on Java almost equally. And its my personal expirience that just as an organization will ask you to develop in C++ because all their codebase is there, programmers will also boost the appeal of the language they are using just because they already have invested so much time and effort in mastering it and its a nightmare to pay the emotional cost to "re learn". Yes I know that you don't restart from scratch, but you do loose some years of experience when you go to a new language just because you can't use any more the tricks and libraries you got to know so well in the past. Just my 2 cents.
  9. no teflon grease will not stay, you would need to mod it in such a way that you build like a bathtub and fill it with grease so that the join is always submerged in it. What needs to be done is that you should cut the plastic parts and replace them with polished iron.
  10. Though this is a old thread, keep in mind how friction works. There are two kinds of friction applied to this scenarios. Static friction, when you try to move the stick but haven't managed to get it going yet, and kinetic friction when the stick is already moving. The problem is that for any given surfaces and lubricant, static friction is always higher than kinetic. To overcome this problem, where "infinite" smoothness is required, you need to use materials that have the same static and kinetic friction coefficients. A good such material though probably not the best is polished iron and perhaps the worst is scratched plastic. Teflon is I think our best possible material. http://ffden-2.phys.uaf.edu/211_fall2002.web.dir/ben_townsend/staticandkineticfriction.htm
  11. I had asked in some post long time ago, and ED had responded that the open beta method was a positive experience. So chances are they will repeat it.
  12. the biggest problem I can see is where anyone will find programming folk that know equally well DirX programming and openGL to reprogram everything. It will be a huge waste of resources. A linux server on the other hand that only supports the synchronization of the clients and the netcode and the mission / campaign might be doable.
  13. IFF systems and behavior should be implemented. IFF/enemy recognition is the main pivot point of tactics. Right now it feels that the entire airspace is a killbox.
  14. Hello, I am considering buying my very own TM Warthog HOTAS and I keep reading about interchangeability with COUGAR. What exactly does this mean? I can use cougars stick in place of Warthogs? I can connect cougars throttle with Warthog stick and have an F16 setup? Thank you for your time.
  15. What I would really like to see, is something I notice every time I look out the window of a real airplane, "random" reflections of the sun from building windows.
  16. without knowing the insides of ED including their/your financial status, I personally think that a better way to go would be to release DCS fighter which will include the "final" DCS netcode and then upgrade previous titles to compatibility with or without payment (this is your choice) at the same time. Then you can build on next modules on top of that untill you will reach a point where you will need to move to DCS2 or DCSnext. and then again "sell" upgrades for previous titles to DCS2. I just think that community fragmentation should be avoided at all cost.
  17. So the true question at this time is: Are BS2 and A10 compatible with the upcoming fixed wing US fighter title? My guess is that no they aren't cause radars and fast moving jets and and and will require ED to introduce new communication parameters in the netcode. Then again if/when (and I hope they will at some point) ED introduces ingame voip radio, again the netcode will need to change and thus all titles will need to be made compatible. So yes there is a trend that titles will be separated and in my opinion this will hurt the online's community momentum towards achieving critical mass. Online compatibility throughout DCS should be a given.
  18. Are there any screens of BS2 or any video? I cant find anything.
  19. The answer to all these is real war zone orders. Not quite sure but I suspect that the paradigm from real life is that if something doesn't respond to interrogation and refuses to comply on radio gets shot. But I really don't think ED has to do such a hardcore implementation. For me it would be good enough for AI to know if its friend of foe and AI that belongs to same flight as user can wait for player to make the assessment. That with the addition of a small possibility of false interrogation would model the real world paradigm close enough without requiring the amount of resources that hardcore full modeling requires. Anyways its a simulation at an arbitrary level, even with systems fully modeled one can argue that its not full simulation because ED models systems and not circuits that respond to environment.
  20. I really think ED needs to implement ingame voip radio system.
  21. I thought in the US pilots did have their own planes, so whats the point of putting your name on something thats not "yours"? I suspect pilots did have their own during WW2 and the tradition remained.
  22. there are enough ways to push mud right now and nothing for AA. So please not the 25 AGAIN! In my opinion DCS should release 2-3 aircrafts with multi-role capability from both sides.
  23. I would really like to know how ED feels about their experience with "public beta" A10. Was it a positive, negative or neutral experience for them?
