  1. What I am going to say here are generalizations and some of it has been covered in this thread before.

The Mirage F1 is a 3rd Gen fighter and like have been said was an incremental progression from the Mirage III. Fighters like the F14, F15, F16, F18, Mirage 2000, MiG29, etc are 4th Gen fighters and were also referred to as super fighters.

4th Gen fighters were a technological leap forward compared to the previous generation and it covered all aspects of fighters. Like engines, avionics, radars, aerodynamics, etc.

For instance the fighters like the F14, F15, MiG29, etc make use of lifting body technology where the fuselage also provide lift like a wing. The Mirage F1 does not have this.

F16, F/A18 and Mirage 2000 have the centre of gravity moved back (Relaxed stability) past the centre of the aircraft making them  unflyable without an flight control computer. But this has advantages like it improve the sustained turn rate (My information is based on reading  a coffee table book decades ago). Apparently this makes a huge difference between Mirage 2000 and Mirage 3.

Leading wing root extensions (F16, F/A18, MiG29, Su27, etc) help with increasing the the angle of attack that these aircraft can reach before stalling. Bare in mind that the Mirage also have things like the slats, combat flaps, sharp dogtooth extensions on the front of the wings, all of which help with airflow over the wing at higher angle of attack.

The point is the F1 came in right at the end of 3rd Gen fighters and started to compete almost immediately with 4th Gen fighters.

On a completely even more off topic note, it seems that nearly all operators of the Mirage F1 used it in combat!

  2. Good day.

I bought this DLC a couple of days ago and got an install link immediately. When I clicked on it nothing happened. I am currently not getting a link to install the DLC. My Steam App is up to date. Please can somebody  tell me the steps how to install the DLC

  3. Good day all.

Just want to ask; what is the most popular multiplayer map?

New to DCS world and just want to know if I should get Nevada, Persian Gulf or Syria (Not going to fly WWII for now)?

Hope everybody are going to have a DCS weekend.

  4. Good day all.

I have searched for my query on google but can not find an answer.

I am interested in getting the DCS F-14 module but I also want to get the DCS FC3 module.

I would rather buy directly from Heatblur Simulations and Eagle Dynamics than Steam (And thus use DCS World from Eagle Dynamics and not Steam). Will there be any compatibility issues? If so is it then better to get everything from Steam?

    Regards.

  5. Sorry. I have not read through the complete post, so does not know if it has been discussed.

I have a question. If the ufo is moving at 10000mph, why is there no disturbed air or a sonic boom?

  6. @USMC_Trev and MiG21bisFishbedL

Sorry. My remark was more of a knee-jerk reaction to the fact that the media (Of different countries), negatively report on certain matters and use erroneous data to support their statements.

Watched video. And after they bashed the F/A 18 closer to the end they highlight the good parts of it as well.

With F-35 it is just a total basing of the F-35. And using half-truths and completely wrong information to do so. It shows me to what level the media has devolved.

All I need to know about F-35 is what Russian fighter experts say about it.

One stated that he foresee that it will be success just as the F-16 it is replacing.

  7. 42 Years old.

Can't remember exactly started either in 1989 or 1990 on a 286 CPU, 30MB, DOS, etc.

Flew missions over the North Cape and Central Europe listening to Def Leppard's Hysteria on a cassette deck Hi-Fi (Had a turn table to). One mission each night before bed.

    Those were great times.

My first proper simulator was Chuck Yeager's Air Combat. Learned there to dogfight.

  8. Just my two cents. Years ago a Microsoft flightsim enthusiast told me how much mil sims suck and how great Microsoft Flight Sim is.

Well i could fly the aircraft and land that he gave me to fly. But when I gave him DID F22 to fly he could do jack squat. And I am not talking about the avionics.

I like civil sims. But mil sims give you a reason to fly from point A to point B. It is not just like driving a buss.

  9. Welcome to IL2 Modern Battles!

To me IL2 and FC/Lockon/DCS have the same feel. And they are all great.

IL2 is more about engine management and FC2 more about system management, because of difference in era (1940s vs 1980ish).

But that is an oversimplification. Your IL2 skills will come in handy.

Fixed wing aircraft will be easier to fly in most respects. But combat is more lethal and it is harder to run from a fight. But now there is missile tactics also.

You can run yourself out of fuel more easily as well.

But I am rambling. Hope you have a great time.

  10. It is my understanding that the GAU-8 (As with canon on any missile or bomb laden fighter/bomber.), have always been a secondary weapon.

This is only to be used when other weapons have been exhausted.

Yes the A-10 is designed around the Avenger. No it is not likely to be the first weapon used during close air support.

Also it have a max effective range of 1200m (I think.). It is not going to be easy to fire a machine gun from your unbuttoned tank at that range at a A-10 traveling at a couple of hundred knots. Also the A-10 is also armoured. So your Dishka or Browning might not deal enough damage to save your hide.

The report also said that important tank stuff got fubared even if the tanks didn't get knocked out.

So Imagine sitting in your latest MBT while your reactive armour, laser detection sensors, standoff missile defense system, CITV, etc. take 30mm DU and HE rounds.

It is going to make things less fun when you are facing enemy ground forces.

I think USAF doctrine should be studied before one say that the GAU-8 is ineffective against any MBT.

It can take the tank out of the battle, even if it does not get knocked out.

Also, I read that six penetrations from GAU-8 will knock out a tank.

Lastly, the GAU-8 have already knocked out many tanks in battle.

  11. It isn't real difficult to figure out if you pick a hard deck of 10,000 feet and you take off from ground level and say you are 30 MILES away from the mountains at takeoff, it is conceivable that once you reach the mountains, your hard deck is no longer valid... The real mistake here was allowing them to fly that close to the mountains in the first place...

I think it is a movie error.

As far as I understand it the "hard deck" is there for dog-fighting specifically, that you don't follow the target down into small arms and AAA range.

So it should always be 10 000ft AGL.

    I think...

  12. Jumping in a little late and didn't have time to read all the posts.

Personally i think that the above posted artwork looks just like 7rooper said: Awesome!

With CAS specifically there seems to be many ways to skin the cat. Attack Helicopters, Drones, Fighter Bombers, Dedicated Fixed Wing Jets (Like A10), Prop Driven Fixed Wing and converted Transport Aircraft. Did I leave anything out?

Unfortunately it will probably mean that the future will not bring us another A10. Because of budgetary constraints most countries will settle for a jack of all trades king of none job. This is already old news ; but just my two cents.

  13. All news reports that I have encountered over the years that I had personal information on have been incorrect. To different degrees of course. I use the news media as a source of information because I have no better one. But they do suck.

As for the F35 project. I am a project engineer. There is allot of crisis management and problems that arise in my job. One of the projects that I am working on is so important that the country involved thought that it could influence voting results. I know the F35 will be a much harder project to run and things will go wrong. Journalists should realize engineering is not like baking a cake.

  14. They make this plane and I will be a happy camper, my country used to be so great once, now we just another african success story.

Thanks OP I appreciate the thread, even if its a little old.

Moenie so negatief wees nie. Alles is bevok hier in FUNSA.

Hoop jy het n generator gekoop om DCS te speel.

  15. My two cents.

    Self Defence = Right

To say killing is wrong is an oversimplification.

Stealing under any circumstance is wrong. But in the law (Of probably all countries.) there is such things as mitigating circumstances.

Going to war because there are not enough resources is wrong. Maybe the tribes should move apart. Maybe they shouldn't keep growing their populations to levels that are unsustainable.

But alas, the struggle over scarce resources are probably the reason for most strife (War, revolution, riots, crime, etc.) on the planet...

To say there are no moral absolutes are, in my opinion, utter bs. If you believe that, you should not complain if somebody do you wrong.
