  1. The ball moves, so it is present. Problem is that there is no effect by abusing sideslip (ie: w/ fast roll), except blackout :noexpression:

Yes the ball moves hyper, but I start getting a wing slide so I have to stop it hence never blacked out. Will try it tonight.

  2. The kind of inertia that almost killed the ex-MIG-21bis pilot I had the chance to talk to 2 days ago. He also happened to be the commander of a country's air force that mainly operated 21s at the time. He specifically told me this: lightly loaded wings + roll rate > 90 degree/sec = likely departure from controlled flight due to inertia coupling.

He once experienced it, and almost had to eject. His plane was spinning under fluctuating negative g, and the axis of the spin was a big horizontal spiral spreading from 2000 to 4000 meters of altitude. He was in a cloud and felt like he would be thrown out of the plane. Then he remembered his instructor's words, came out of burner, centered the ball with the pedals and let go (!) of the stick. The inertia spin eventually stopped. He said he knows it mustn't have lasted longer than 15 seconds, because the engine didn't quit, and the negative g reserve fuel tank carried enough fuel for exactly 15 seconds.

That I think I had encountered that on the previous FM's or was it simply a spin don't remember it was quite long back and it probably just happened a couple of times.

Just give Magnitude to update this weekend hopefully.

  3. We all were used to the old FM where there weight being calculated hence we might be feeling the new FM behavior of the roll aracadish.

Dolphin is the real mig21 active pilot so I would say the aircraft will get close to the real one over updates.

Yes I still feel the weight not being there because when one of the gears is out she still flys the same no drag nothing. This was the case when I first flew the F-15 and noticed that one of the gears was out and the Eagle was flying without any issues, but I was told the Eagle has CAS which takes care of it and the engines are very powerful.

I doubt that would be the case in the fishbed but I am no one to judge as I have zero flight experience nor have I flown the mig21 except watched them every morning during there exercises near the Indian Air Force station in Pune.

Now only if I can get this bird to land properly without braking the gears :(

  4. I had the chance to meet a MIG-21 pilot yesterday. He told me about "inertia coupling":

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inertia_coupling

"Inertia coupling is a potentially lethal phenomenon of high-speed flight in which the inertia of the heavier fuselage overpowers the aerodynamic stabilizing forces of the wing and empennage. The problem became apparent as single-engine jet fighter aircraft were developed with narrow wingspans, that had relatively low roll inertia relative to the pitch and yaw inertia dominated by the long slender high-density fuselage"

With empty racks the 21 was prone to this if the pilot initiated a roll with a rate higher than 90 degrees per sec, because the rolling inertia of the heavy fuselage couldn't be overcome with the light wings - as far as I understood. This was also the case with the F-104 with empty wingtip-tanks.

Do you mean the yaw happening with the roll ? I have that issue

Sometimes it feels like a yaw departure

  5. Honestly I am liking the new FM , earlier I thought it was messed up. Though I still feels there is no weight being calculated.

The best is the straight landing (not that I can land the mig without braking the gears) unlike before where the nose used to pitch a lot

  6. I had a few real life MiG-21 pilots actually fly the bird in DCS with the Rift, and the only thing they complained about was low roll rate...

Guess the thing is much better now...

We flew FOB Vetka with only MiGs and Tigers last night and it was a joy to fly...

Wow great to hear it's close.

But I am getting this yawing on roll and I watch the rudder they are centered

  7. There are a few quirks for me.

Low speed roll felt good like there was inertia. But at higher speed she feels like paper.

There is no drag / weight issues when one of the gears is out.

when flaps are deployed no ballooning effect, she has small wings but i don't expect some ballooning

I can't land this baby anymore :( always bounce back up :( i used to land her but not anymore but this could be related to my Logitech attack 3 not sure though.

  8. No drag / weight noticed when the LG is damaged, before it was if one of the gears was still out the aircraft used to tilt in that position, i literally had to fight her and the loss of airspeed.

I am not sure if the real mig has any ballooning effect when the flaps are extended , I never notice that effect ? is it due to the smaller wing area ? the wing loading ?

  9. Yes, and I think this is causing the broken landing gear some people have experienced.

On one landing I had a blowout, watched the replay to see what happened and just as I touched down the side slip indicator went all the way to the left.

Adjusted rudder curve and all is well again.

What curve settings have to got now ?
