  1. I just bought the Hornet on pre-sale offer. (LOL! I have most all of the others already... ) I might play with it awhile but will wait for Chuck's Guide for it when it most likely appears. Chuck is a lot quicker at learning the new stuff than I am. He has a real gift for creating tech manuals. As to the Harrier? The 3rd party stuff is never ready for prime-time at its release date and sometimes not even 2 years later. I will wait awhile and a good sale. I have sim flown both : VRS SuperBug and somebody made a Harrier a few years ago. I know of a retired Navy pilot that sim-flies the VRS SuperBug on P3D with his squadron guys; it is very realistic! And P3D ain't cheap! >>> https://www.prepar3d.com http://vcw-8.com https://www.vrsimulations.com/superbug.php -+- I welcome comments and critiques as the VRS SuperBug has been out quite awhile. Too bad DCS_World could not include total sim-war like Arma and incorporate the flyboys to support ground troops missions like in the real world. Historically the Navy supports the Marines in country.
  2. I'd be interested, too, depending on the group of guys and how it goes. I fly the Ka-50 almost always and usually solo. I did Navy Seabees once upon a time, but flying strictly military-like, I am not very interested... On Blue Flag server there are opportunities on occasion to fly with the other Red side copters. I tend to fly late hours and wee early AM New York area time zone (Zulu minus 4 or 5 hours).
  3. I have and use SRS but I do prefer TS3. I also have Discord. I don't like it and rarely use it except to read once in awhile. When I play on a guy's server I have to take it as it is and cooperate to play his way or just choose another server. I rarely do comms. I mostly just listen. With SRS and enough guys on together with adequate people, Red side has one GCI / AWACS guy in charge letting us know what is going on. He is in charge; we act accordingly.
  4. Me, too! But, that is why I finally bought a Amazon Kindle Fire 10 inch tablet for easy access to my various aircraft flight manuals and Chuck's guides. I actually use my tablet as a kneeboard.
  5. Hydrazine = rocket https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messerschmitt_Me_163_Komet -+- Me 163 Komet Me163efJM.jpg Me 163 B-1a at the National Museum of Flight in Scotland Role Interceptor National origin Germany Manufacturer Messerschmitt First flight Me 163A V4 on 1 September 1941 Introduction 1944 Primary user Luftwaffe Number built ~370[1] Developed into Messerschmitt Me 263 The Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet was a German rocket-powered fighter aircraft. Designed by Alexander Lippisch, it is the only rocket-powered fighter aircraft ever to have been operational and the first piloted aircraft of any type to exceed 1000 km/h (621 mph) in level flight. Its design was revolutionary and its performance unprecedented. German test pilot Heini Dittmar in early July 1944 reached 1,130 km/h (700 mph), an unofficial flight airspeed record unmatched by turbojet-powered aircraft for almost a decade. Over 300 aircraft were built, but the Komet proved ineffective in its dedicated role as an interceptor aircraft and was responsible for the destruction of only about nine to eighteen Allied aircraft against ten losses.[2][3] Aside from combat losses many pilots were killed during testing and training.[4] -+- Engine specifics : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_HWK_509
  6. That's why I quit playing on the 104th. All you guys strive for realism. You guys join up real military combat ops. Go get a taste of real life. No radar systems are that good!! Real combat is ever very well coordinated, mostly unorganized as hell! 104th 's Blue team requested copter pilots, then dumbed it down and use the copters for target practice. Me? No thanks. I switched over to Blue Flag couple months ago. Still trying to decide whether I'll be staying.
  7. I fly Red with the copters. SRS does work fairly well if tuned to Channel 126 for GCI. I am in NY State, most of the guys must be in Europe as their activity in numbers is best about 5 PM my time. Couple guys will work as forward control operators and will advise accordingly. But I agree, Red side needs attack coordination as a teamwork objective everybody working together; I rarely see that, too. I always have the text-chat up to read. Discord I am not impressed with. Communication I expect strictly military in-flight objectives talk and not the usual nonsense chatter that throws my concentration.
  8. _______Is (are) KUB_Launcher and Troops Being Dumbed-Down as to Lethality ?? =================================================== At Malot in Mi-8 I loaded up a couple sets of troops and the KUB Launcher and its radar to a little ways out and above the Malot FARP. All components deployed fine. I set down within eye-view a little ways away in the trees to observe. Eventually a lone Gazelle came in and with its multiple passes completely wiped out the SAM site. The Gazelle took some damage but he completed killing off the site and flew off relatively unscathed. He did not see my Mi-8 in the trees. I was fine. What gives? I fly by one pass passed troops in my Ka-50 and take fire that almost always kills my hydraulics immediately. You guys (mission developers) deliberately dumbing down Red side's defensive capabilities?? Sure enough looks that way to me...
  9. Hi, I'm not complaining or even seeking help. I do get the same metashader warning screen pop-up that the other thread concerning the x86 issue; so, there is that. I am just stating a fact of which I have experienced as I go about trial and error getting the update to work. Finally got the Blue Flag Caucasus map to work fairly well on my SSD ( a copy off my (C: ) drive) . Finally got the Blue Flag Nevada map to work in (C: ) . I had to run the Nevada map several times (in this case --- the Blue Flag Nevada server) so it can build the necessary components in my (C: ) drive architecture for it to work, at least I think that is what is going on. In a few days I will try and post a log file once I experience the negative issue again. Thanks.
  10. (Don't know what thread to put this. Please move if necessary.) ******************Attention : BIGNEWY********************* -----I don't use Steam or the x86 directory.----- In OpenBeta I can play the Caucasus map, now, but not any of the Nevada or Normandy maps. Lately, "play" means the Blue Flag server in Multiplayer on my SSD and not (C: ) . I play Blue Flag on my SSD , a copy of the OpenBeta ; and not (C: ) which is a slower spinning 2-disk hybrid in a raid0 setup. (Dell Alienware Aurora R3 purchased 2011 (i7-2600 / 16GB ram.) I suspect, initially, I have to get my (C: ) drive stable with the OpenBeta before copying it to my SSD. That is how I did the Caucasus map. I think ALL the (C: ) directory needs to be "fixed" by me on my end including the Saved Games sub-directory and any other trinkets. (I still have 1.5.8 stable and separately 2.5.0 stable on a separate SSD and not (C: ) to use. But nobody worthwhile as to real person competition is on in Multiplayer. And both directories still work fine.)
  11. Currently, at least with the OpenBeta, ED needs to address the negative Metadata shader issues as prority. I can play the Caucasus map, now, but not any of the Nevada or Normandy maps. I play Blue Flag on my SSD , a copy of the OpenBeta and not (C: ) which is a slower spinning disk hybrid in a raid 0 setup. I suspect, initially, I have to get my C: drive stable with the OpenBeta before copying it to my SSD. That is how I did the Caucasus map.
  12. re: Ka-50 ABRIS Ka-50 does not see all the units that appear with the blue dot(s). There is stuff to go find. I also use the http://gadget.buddyspike.net map and mouse swipe to verify if all targets are truly dead before flying back with the Mi-8 .
  13. With that logic, then, too, also remove any AWACs support and Forward Observers' abilitiy to see my Ka-50 in valleys and at treetop altitude. No radar is that good unless overhead stationary spotting from space. Leave the Ka-50 alone! Will definitely lose my Ka-50 participation if site manager(s) do.
  14. I follow this guy's blog for the monthly Windows Update updates https://www.askwoody.com He has been writing the "Windows for Dummies" books for years. Though I am more of an Ed Bott fan as to Windows Inside / Out series. I took Woody's advice for April for my Windows 7 machine (my DCS World machine) : https://www.askwoody.com/2018/ms-defcon-3-apply-april-patches-but-if-you-have-64-bit-win7-or-server-2008-r2-read-the-fine-print/ and https://www.askwoody.com/2018/win7-and-server-2008-r2-users-take-notice-its-only-a-matter-of-time-before-total-meltdown-comes-a-knockin/ -+- I could not play the Blue Flag server on Thursday May 3 at all , all day --- with the typical Metashaders crash screen! Well, long story short and a lot of trial and error on my part, yesterday installed the omitted KB4093113 and I ran the Blue Flag server all night last night no problems at all. Go figure. (I am curious what you guys do about Windows Update.? Do you just blindly let the machines auto-update or what?)
  15. re: Message #8 About the time you guys started this thread I decided to setup the Mirage controllers and learn this thing. Have had the Mirage awhile before the English translated cockpit. I put this module's learning curve on hold until recently. Yes, 1st training mission is a bear to learn without easy access to the tool tips. At least I have access to my tablet loaded with Chuck's guide and used as knee-board. Thank you very much for that .zip file. Boy, that sure saved me some time to modify Training Mission #1 . And this guy's English translated cockpit still is working in 2.5.1 OpenBeta https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1703066/ At age 66, learning new stuff is not as easy as it used to be. Any added helps are much appreciated by me. Cheers!!
  16. Watched the video concerning PCIe 3.0 x8 vs x16. Video said changes can be made to the motherboard using BIOS. I'm still pretty much a PC noob compared to most you guys, though I built a PC from scratch maybe 10 years ago. Current PC is an Alienware Aurora R3. How do I get into the BIOS to go take a look at what changes can be made? Or is this more a Dell Forums question?
  17. I see I am not alone with this negative issue. I don't use Steam. I cannot even load into Single Player for Cold Startup with Mirage. I freeze up with the above stated message less the Steam lingo. Ditto trying to get onto the Blue Flag server in Multiplayer. Tried a repair via this method >>> Prior to the OpenBeta update, I was doing fine! Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
  18. I know where the Multiplayer Tracks reside in Users\My Name\Saved Games\DCS\Tracks\Multiplayer in Windows 7. Where are the Single Player Track files located ? If they exist I would like to thin them out by deleting most of the tracks. -+- Does Single Player track files automatically save themselves like the Multiplayer tracks do? Or do I need to initiate the Save process to actually save the specific file to my choice of where I want to stash them as a deliberate manual save ? -+- Thanks in advance for any help.
