  1. Thanx much guys. I did find a config file for this stick, ( I think ), in the user files section. I'll add what I learn from that to what you all have said. But there's so many commands available that I don't even want to think about modifiers right now...just want to worry about those commands most necessary and useable from the stick.
  2. I'm running the above in Sim mode with only a few basic controls besides the axis on my Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X and am now ready for a few more detailed settings. If anyone is using this Stick or another that is like it could you provide me a list of those controls and/or commands you feel are important enough to set on your Hotas Stick. There are so many that I want to include only those that are really necessary to set on the Stick and why. The rest will of course be left for the keyboard to handle. Thanx in advance!
  3. I have no idea what a "foldable Warthog pit/stand" might be, but you can be sure I'll search for it! I've seen the TM Warthog but as I am unable to use pedals I went with the T.16000M instead, and then the Hotas. You're right of course, there's no "wrong" way to setup a stick. How one does this depends on what the user requires to be quickly available and how / how much he or she wants to make use of the keyboard. How one goes about such things can't be a state secret though so I like to see how others have dealt with them.
  4. Now that's what I consider a helpful and honest post Yurgon! I think I'm beyond bouncing myself off the ceiling of a hanger, and I doubt very much that I'll pull the gear up while still on the ground. <g> My experiances have led me to having little choice but to self-teach myself many things from manuals and textbooks, most recently in the field of programming, and before that in the photographic sciences, so I already know your advice about how to approach the manual is right on! But what worries me about setting up the Hotas BEFORE having enough experience to show me how best to set my controls up is that I may become adjusted to a particular setup now that I'll find lacking in practical use later on when it will be much harder to change. I've encountered problems like this in other sims already By starting out with a setup I may at first find a little off, but later right on the money, I'll have solved one technical problem BEFORE it actually becomes a problem But I can live with it if I must!
  5. To: Razor 18 I have a very good reason for asking or answering questions as soon as I'm notified of a thread continuation. I'm not lazy and did a search right after I read the post, but had I not replied I would not have been notified of any future comments in this thread. I'm much too busy to rely on myself for checking back on a thread so I may ask what appears to be a dumb or lazy question but will usually answer it in the thread later to make up for the truly lazy guy who gives only partial information to a question. Proper protocol when giving information to be found on the net is to give a complete address unless one doesn't know it him or her self...in which case I try to respond with the full necessary information needed to find it! I came here for real and valued information, not to put up with juvenile name calling. If YOUR time is so valuable so as to prevent you're giving the full information needed but that allows you to be insulting, perhaps you need to rethink your reason for answering at all! nuff said!
  6. I appreciate all the responses and will take them to heart. It looks like the A-10C is for me. Nothing that ugly can be all bad! And confidentially, I tried Hawk 2 and trashed it after a few start ups because I DO want to learn the right way! Now I must ask if I need anything other than the modules text book to learn? Someone mention a specific set of training missions including one called MapleFlag. What exactly is this and where is it? Finally, one of the more difficult challenges for me after using the TM T.16000M joystick for so long in space sims, is setting up my new stick, the TM T.Flight Hotas X properly. Have a good average setup to start with will allow me to get my mindset where it belongs as I begin. Later I can adjust it to suit my particular needs. So if anyone has a good setup for this Hotas Stick I would greatly appreciate a copy or setup list. Thanx in advance!
  7. Thanx for all the great responses! And based on what was said here and what I've already learned, I think I'll pick the A10c as my starting aircraft. I've gone thru the manual already but am sure its digital edges will be quite frayed before I'm done with it , but I haven't seen any training missions for this aircraft...where are they? Is there any reason I should NOT start flying under simple avionics until such time as I feel comfortable and ready to move on? Same questions for all settings from No Damage to Easy Weapon control and radar? Also, I have a choice of using the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X with the throttle and lots of other programmable buttons on a detachable section, OR the Thrustmaster T.16000M in which the throttle and rudder controls are added onto the single stick base. And finally, does anyone have a good setup file for either of these controls I can begin with? Thanx again!
  8. Many here may remember my getting ready to learn the basic ropes here a year or more ago. I had hoped to get started with DCS as I was retiring and would at last be able to give it the attention it deserved. Unfortunately things didn't work out quite the way I planned them...especially as regards my retirement and free time! But now I'm back again, fully retired and otherwise unencumbered. What I would like to do now is concentrate on just one of two planes I really like. The P-51D and the Warthog. So as I'm just starting, which of these two choices will be best? Which will provide me with a quicker and more fun level of experience at the fastest rate? Which offers the most as far as campaigns and multiplayer? Can anyone tell me and/or offer me the best way to go at this? I'm not looking for instruction except perhaps as might be had by flying alongside another more experienced pilot during friendly multiplayer flights Any help, consideration, flying experience and or evaluation will be greatly appreciated!
  9. Does anyone else here make use of the ThrustMaster T.Flight Hotas X for DCS? If so and you have worked out good settings for any or all the different aircraft, and are willing to share, I would greatly appreciate any info and/or copies you could make available! Thanx much in advance!
  10. Hi all. I used the update app found under the Bin directory and though it worked fine it did seem to me that it was only updating the open world portion. If this is true, what about updating / patching the individual planes and/or other parts of the base?
  11. Ironhand...Looks like everything is okay based upon your message. I was able to find all the other aircraft in missions, etc., but not on the main page or the Module page. It's rather confusing. The reason I decided to get FC was that I hadn't been involved in Slight Sims for a very long time even though I had made some purchases from DCS. I figured it might be a little easier starting from there. Unfortunatly there doesn't seem to be an organized method of getting into it. What would you and anyone else suggest as the best way to start and move through FC?
  12. On the installed page of the module manager it shows FC3 as well as a seperate F15C, while on the main page the F15C is now missing, which as you have said is no longer needed seperatly...so I'm okay there. But it still appears that I may be missing a plane or two, even though it doesn't allow me to add anything. I re-installed the game but still no luck. Can one of you who has an install file: FC3_1.2.10.32582.527-355.exe give a list of all planes that show in your module manager and that came with the FC3 install?
  13. Well now I'm even more confused! <g> Flaming Cliffs is installed as showen on the main screen of DCS, and there is some training and campaigns using a variey of aircraft but the training video tells you to hit Pause and practice basic flying, but Pause doesn't work. I'll try setting it to work under controls. But it is not offering me to get any of the planes no matter what I do! My A-10C, F-15C, P-51D, and SU-25T, were all installed before. Now the main screen shows in addition to them, the Flaming Cliffs module and the TF-51D, but has deleted the original F-15C! And under Modules it shows the same planes but doesn't allow me to add anything at all. So evidently I'm not only missimg at least two planes, the F-15C from FC3 has absorbed my original version which wories me because everyone I've talked to says the FC3 version is dumbed down in comparision to the original I had!
  14. Thanx for the responses. Looks like I bought a pig in a poke because when an add says what it is and later you find that it's not I get upset! I've always respected DCS for their good work and support, but I never expected this! I didn't buy it for the planes, especially if they're tuned down models, but for the campaign story line and ease of use so I can teach my grandson!
  15. I played an earlier version of this franchise more than a few years ago, and when I saw the add for a new version that integrates with DCS I just couldn't wait to try it out. Unfortunately I'm not finding it as easy as I remember and thought it would! It seems to be installed correctly, but only as an integrated F-15. There's no training, only one plane, no introductory missions, story line, etc. In fact it seems not to be a Flaming Cliffs game at all, with offering ONLY the single plane into DCS provided...the F-15 which I had purchased for DCS world some time ago! I can only imaging that I either screwed up the installation or it was not the Sim I thought it was! Please help me work these problems out if you can
  16. Thanx so much for your reply...very helpful! Over the last few months I've been flying the Iron Cross WW 1 sim and having a lot of fun learning navigation and map reading. Also these bi and tri-planes are like leaves blowing in the wind, making target holding extremely tough! I'm sure what I've learned will come in handy. In any case, and for my own enjoyment, the minute I'm feeling confident with the Mustang in takeoffs and landings, I plan on trying to pick a dogfight on MP to learn tactics by doing! I can learn equally well using written or video'd tutorials, but nothing beats hand-on experience with someone having more experience than yourself! If you would be interested in spending a little of your own air-time flying circles around a noob I'll look you up in about a month or so!
  17. Ok Blooze...got it, but it may be a while before I get to the Warthog! <g no offense intended!> I'm going to check these vids out first thing tomorrow. The hard part I'm having with the tutorials is that I can't read the small print on the controls or hash marks on trims, etc, and so am not sure I'm setting them correctly. Mustn't be though cause after trying to set the three trims the tutorial doesn't move on! I'm hoping between the manual and the tutorials I'll be able to figure it out, as well as which controls I really need to worry about! Should I get used to game mode before trying to fly the sims?
  18. Thanx much to Flagrum and Psyrixx for their helpful replies. I'm going to give it my best shot, but if anyone has any more helpful hits, tutorials, etc., please let me know. Also, what setups are flyers playing MP using? I mean are their standards I must learn to fly using in order to get into MP? I don't want to screw myself up using settings that I'll definitely have to alter later on to get into flying with others!
  19. Blooze...thanx for the invite but the Warthog has a real steep learning curve and I doubt it's the best place to start. Did you actually read my message?
  20. I had run a few of the old Jane's series some years ago but never had time with work to become proficient. Then last year I heard about DCS and now have the A-10C Warthog, the P51D Mustang, the TF51D Mustang, the SU25T, and now the F-15C beta. Up till this very day however I was still working and raising my family and just didn't have time to get into it. I was saving DCS for the future, and that future is now here! I just got the F-15C because I assumed with its game flight version I could move into the series a little easier, but there's no instruction or training with it! There's a menu item for training videos, but all I get is an unknown module error when I try to download them. And my Thrustmaster T-HotasX is not setup correctly evidently, but their are no instructions for doing so. A lot of buttons in the bindings options, but no info on their proper use, etc. Basically what I'm looking for are good setup instructions for this joystick/throttle for each plane or one common to all of them, and some help in starting out the "right" way with DCS so that I can slowly build up my abilities and knowledge with each plane. Which to begin with? Good training info? And anything else that might help me to get to the point where I can start going head to head in the MP side of the games/sims. Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated, and I promise to try and keep the number of dumb questions down as much as possible. Once I really get started I should be okay, but right now I feel overwhelmed! Thanx in advance!
  21. Ergonomics I'll be glad to. But remind me in about two weeks cause I'll be away for a bit!
  22. I'm not THAT senile! <g> I feel like I must have given the wrong impression due to you perception that I need to be told how to configure Joystick axis! <BG> True I'm a noob as far as military grade sims are concerned, but computers I've been using and programming since '72! I think I know a few things! <g> BTW, as per my earlier message in this thread I did exactly that, setting up a Fast mission I could practice in. I made it with one air and one ground target because I figure once I AM in the air, I should take out both targets before a CAP home, and THEN practice landing! As for hand and arm injuries, sorry to hear that...I've got a lifetime of personal stories along those lines myself and may be able to held you get around them. For example, my right elbow is fused at 90 degrees, and thus my hand is locked palm down cause my wrist no longer rotates due to the fusion in the elbow! All movement is restricted and must be compensated for by my right shoulder, thus it is now damaged and causes pain you wouldn't believe after just a few moment using a regular mouse. So I invented a solution that now makes it possible for me to use mouse, keyboard, and Jstick at the same time for hous on end without anymore pain! If interested, let me know and I'll send you a private message or e-mail and explain it to you.
  23. There's always MORE questions! I should have thought about the eject command needing to be made three times to make it work because I remember seeing exactl the same in some other flight sim for yesteryear...probably one of the old Jane's sims! I did watch the video above as well as quite a few more I've found on UTube, unfortunately they haven't been much help because those dam yellow arrows are always flashing over the controls making it nearly impossible for me to see exactly what is being clicked on and how they are supposed to be moved. But in combination with the DCS trainng videos and the manuels, I'm sure I'll fgure it all out eventually! In any event, I need a place to practice and make use of each step as I learn them...zt my own pace and, and hopefully with other pilots who will be willing to offer a little help and patience as well! <g> And so if things go as well as I expect them to, I should be ready to give MP a try by next month. but if until that time I can find a mission that allowes me to fly unfettered and without enemies so that I can take my time and really learn how to handle my plane in both modes, get take-off and landing down pat, and configure my stick, that'll go a long way toward making the process much smoother and more ebjoyable! BTW...there is a mission listed under downloads in the DCS site that as desccribed seems to be exactly what I'm looking for, but I wasn't able to find any instructions for loading and managing any of the files listed in that group of both single an multi-file mod packages! Well i guess I've expounded enough for the day...so "Keep your eyes on the prize! May your skies always be sunny, and always full of our enemies so we may send them back with all the other ground crawlers!"
  24. Couldn't sleep at all tonight...I guess I was too anxious to start flying the P51-D! I jotted down a few of the more important controls, put it in game mode until I get used to controlling a bit, read the manual and Quick Start Guides, then created a fast mission starting out on the runway. Well after 2 or 3 bent props and flaming wingtips, I did finally get it off the ground. And what I noticed right away was how important setting the trim correctly was and how responsive and easy to lose control this sim is compared to any other I'd ever played! Od course I never had one of this high quality and realistic grade and so had expected this anyway. So for the first few attempts, once I was actually flying I suddenly couldn't remember how to increase the throttle or manifold pressure in game mode and kept ending up crashing into the ground anyway! But once I got the hang of it, I ran a quick dogfight mission against a single plane, but I guess I'm not quite ready for that yet cause I couldn't get my altitude up where the Nazi was flying and so only got a few shots at him when he tried diving down at me. But I did hit him a few times before he took both my wings and tail off and left me falling from the sky in what looked like one of the old short fuselages I used to fly when ever I found them sitting in front of a grocery store as a kid! He killed me five times in a row within about 5 minutes each time. And though I did try to eject, I guess dead men can't cause it never worked for me! <g> Of course I also never tried rolling the canopy back either, so that might have had something to do with it as well! Did this plane have an ejection seat? Or did the pilots just have to climb out and jump? What is the correct procedure for ejecting, and is it different in Game mode? I'd like to practice starting from a parked position, then taxi-ing out, taking off, making a quick circuit around town, and then landing. What's the best way to do this without having to go thru the tutorial each time? I'd like to paint my plane a different color, add a simple version of my avatar to both sides of the tail and rudder, and scribe my handle on both sides of the fuselage. Is this possible for MP play? If so, can anyone provide me with a way to learn how to do this? I'm a programmer, but have never modded! Lastly, I'm using the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X Stick to fly. Does anyone have a good mapping for it? I'm not quite sure how and what to bind my throttle to, or the Z-rocker switch on the throttle handle. I'm using the Stick's twist for my rudder, but I was thinking maybe the rocker would be a good way of handle let and right trim? Any thoughts on the best way to set this stick up for the P-51D would be appreciated!
  25. Now that the problems are solved... If anyone who helped has any suggestions on how best to get up to speed and/or any good utilities or add-ons, groups, clubs, clans, women ( only kidding ), that can make my time with the Mustang more enjoyable and quicker to learn so I can start getting into some MP battles, I'd really like to hear about it all! I'm 58, an old hippie as I mentioned before, and though I've played a number of flight sims, I've never tried one of military grade like this. I had to run thru the startup video 5 times before I got it down...mainly cause I couldn't see the controls really well with those dam yellow arrows getting in the way...but I plan on spending this entire weekend with it so hopefully I might even get it off the ground by Sunday night! <g> I'm running a high-speed Xeon workstation processor with 8 gigs RAM, a 150 gig SSD boot drive and a 2 Tb hard disk, an Nvidia graphics card..a 5800 GTX w/250 ram, 800 watts, 8 cooling fans plus the liquid core over the power unit and processor base, Windows 7, 64, a 20 inch High Res HD flat screen running at 1680x1050 32bit at 60hz, Creative Platinum Sound blaster running thru my home 5.1 sound system, a Logitech wireless gaming rollerball mouse w/a homemade Velcro strap that allows me to use my arm and hand in any position without losing any control...even while using the keyboard, a Ttesports Challenger gaming board, and a Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X JoyStick. My headset is a Corsair and My Network runs at near 60mbps download and near 15mbps up on cable. I'm usually available almost anytime as I work on my programming at home. In particular, I'd love to hear about good macros to use and of course the best mapping for my Flight Stick. May your skies always be clear and full of enemies to shoot down!
