  1. Are you referring to the i5-10600k or the i7-10700K? Either way, i would be hard pressed to find those components (including video card) and stay within $800, I can see it if not buying a video card (I just bought these components for a i7-10700K system) and without video card it cost me $830, buying a decent 2070 super would bring it up to wards $1200. These numbers are from $USD, i know it varies in other countries but stil...
  2. I bought from Newegg as it has usually been cheaper, they are the closest store to me (in CA). For instance the 10700k cpu from Amazon using your link cost $50 more than what i paid, the other prices were the same. I did have to buy the cooler from amazon as the shipping from the newegg third party seller cost more than the cooler This is the cooler i bought, i got an air cooler as i have seen the liquid coolers fail due to the altitude and dry air in my area https://www.amazon.com/NOCTUA-NH-U12A-Ventilateurs-NF-A12x25-performants/dp/B07PN4RDW3/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=noctua-nh-u12a&qid=1595689339&sr=8-3
  3. This is what i bought hopefully i didnt make bad choices: Motherboard - https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813144303?item=N82E16813144303 Processor - i got the 10700k cause deals brought cost to only $10 more than 10600k: https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i7-10700k-core-i7-10th-gen/p/N82E16819118123?item=N82E16819118123 Memory - https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232218?item=N82E16820232218
  4. Is it very important to check memory compatibility to motherboard by only buying memory listed on the motherboard's qualified vendor list (QVL)?
  5. So ive priced out both a ryzen 3700x build ($970) and an intel 10700k build ($830), so the intel is actually cheaper due to sales that end today so I am going with that
  6. Ive been having trouble finding CL16 memory on the motherboard's QVL. I hope to get a second nvme at some point but i dont see a reason to right now. The list stuff to be bought above is around $990. I found this memory but not sure its on the QVL: https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232907?item=N82E16820232907

  8. I just read that the nvidia 3000 series cards are likely going to be pcie 4.0...this makes me wonder. Will I need instead to get a pcie 4.0 compatible CPU to get full performance out of the 3070?
  9. I haven't priced things out yet, but im leaning towards the intel i7 10700 (simply for future proofing with its 8 cores, trying to use my old nvidia 1080 (which i dont know if its good still) until the 30x series releases, im not sure what ram speed to get but i want 32Gb. Am i on a good track?
  10. obviously im not one to constantly upgrade things. Im not into multi tasking while playing games. Waiting is hard when i dont have a working computer now. You are telling me to wait 3-4 months with nothing but my phone for internet access. That's not going to be easy.
  11. Try turning off SSLR, on my computer having this off massively increased performance (like 2X)
  12. His low fps are most likely due to using sslr, having that on cut my fps in half
  13. The seasonic that i bought has a 10 year warranty, 750 watts, glod plus certification. Seems to meet what you say to me. Will the 10600k, with its 6 cores, work for games optimized for 8 cores? I dont know if hyperthreading will make up for the less cores. Is it likely that games will be optimized for 8 cores since the major consoles will use 8? Or are flight sims and other games very far from becoming optimized on more than 6 cores?
  14. With consoles coming out with 8 cores, will the upcoming games move to 8 cores? Shouldn't i pick a 8 core processor for future?
  15. My old PSU is an EVGA 750 watt certified plus gold, the new one i bought is a seasonic 750 watt certified plus gold as well. Are these high enough quality?
  16. I just bought a new power supply to see if my PSU had died, it came with a special adapter to check that the PSU is working, using that adapter both PSU turned on. My plan is to use the PSU i just bought, although i did hook it up in the computer, when i pressed power buttons nothing happened. So my hope was that the new PSU could be used
  17. Yes that is why I want to reuse the graphics card if I can, that and I won't be buying a version set until next year, I only have so much $. Is overclocking a must? I have to admit that although I intended to overclock my computer, I never got around to it as everything ran good enough.
  18. On my system SSLR caused a huge drop, like half, in the fps. If he runs with sslr off I think he will be around 120 avg as my system gives that
  19. So my 6+ yr old computer doesn't turn on. I tried switching out power supply, memory, and disconnecting all drives etc, computer doesn't turn on any more. Last week end when I turned it on it promptly shut itself off. It was a intel 4690k, an asus 97a MOBO, with a nvidia 1080. I am thinking the MOBO has died. So I would like to replace MOBO, CPU, Memory with current tech. I would like to try to use my nvidia 1080 as it's only a year and a half old, is that a bad idea? I want to play DCS and IL2 in VR with this new computer, can you guys point me to a CPU/MOBO combo as well as give advise on whether it's okay or not to try to reuse hard drives, case, and video card? Would like to not spend more than $1k but could spend up to $2k if necessary
  20. I will say that the CTD seem related to using MSAA at 2x with AA off on my computer with large numbers of units birth/airstart/spawn part-way through a mission. I have played more with air droplets on and haven't had any other crashes. When MSAA was on I was getting CTD on almost every mission
  21. After further testing, MSAA still off but with Rain Droplets check-on I saw something interesting. Playing the point du hoc mission , I think its mission 9, of the blue nosed campaign for the p51d, I could see the rain drops in the air outside but no drops or streaks on the canopy. Flew the hole mission, landed back at the airfield and upon stopping all of a sudden water streaks appeared on the canopy glass, I ended the mission shortly after. I selected end mission on the next screen and then tried to exit DCS. Upon exiting DCS crashed with a solid black screen. In all my flights before with air droplets checked (on), even flying through clouds, I never saw the water streaks on the canopy before. With the water droplets checked (on) in the P51 are other people seeing water streaks on canopy during flight in rain and/or clouds? For me I had a perfectly clean canopy, no streaks, and it appears that sometimes I get CTD with air droplets checked. So far I have not had any CTD with air droplets unchecked (off). dcscrash_AirDropsChecked.zip
  22. So after more testing I have discovered that it seems related to MSAA being turned on AND the birth of a lot of units (air units in testing) at once. All the times it was crashing I had MSAA set to 2X. I have MSAA off now, and have been able to succussfully fly mission 7 and 8 from the blue nosed ba$Tards campaign at least 3 times each without crashing. The attached picture shows first the settings I was using that caused CTD. And second the settings that so far have not had any crashes in about (6-7 full 1.5hr missions). The main two differences are MSAA and rain drops being turned on in the first. But since I never saw any rain drops in those missions I figured it was MSAA when the units popped in. I want to turn rain drops on and try that next. Should my machine be able to run MSAA at 2X with these settings or am I just asking too much of it?
  23. I looked around for a crash zip file, I don't know where to look, didn't find one. So I played mission again, it crashed again. This time it produced log files, I have attached everything in the logs folder in the attached file. It contains logs of two crashes one on the 6/6 and another from today on 6/13. Please let me know where to look for a crash zip file dcs_crash_logs.zip
