  1. I'm sure it won't either. That was a bit "tongue-n-cheek" on my part. I mostly wanted to report the auto regeneration seen from less lethal hits from the AI. V
  2. New update acted weird from the start. First time starting, I received the note that there was a new update, but did not get the prompt to accept the new update. I exited the game and restarted, this time with the prompt to update, and did so. It seemed to be downloading normally so I stepped away while it downloaded. When I came back it didn't download/install properly with a failure notice of some kind. Now when I start the sim, I get no prompt to install the latest update and am stuck in 1.2.6.17746. How do I update manually, and/or is there a tool within DCS World to force an update. I don't have it on my desk top. \/
  3. Well said! I agree with this post. V
  4. Discovered something interesting on the damage model with the FW AI. I completely shot away a tail surface and watched it fly by my canopy. Looked back at the bogie and it still had a tail and was fully maneuverable. The only time the AI is rendered dead is if you separate it from a wing. However, the nav lights do come on when it quits. I don't mind it so much off-line because it gets me more time on target, but I hope this doesn't translate into the flyable version! ;-) \/
  5. Will try to be there now that 1.2.6 is back on. I have a squadron that gathers Friday and Saturday nights, so I may log in on your TS, then go back to mine. It'll be the best way to get my guys interested if I tell them how things are going. \/
  6. If you're getting a flick out during tighter turns, i.e., one wing is departing, you're not using enough rudder. Practice some maneuvers and step on the ball (the inclinometer) to keep it centered. Practice this and it will become second nature when you take it to a fight. \/
  7. Right! MPH LOL That bounce he got was because I had no idea you had AI FW's on it... I DO NOW! LOL I thought I was in there all by myself. Went on again today and got a nice solid kill raking 50s down both wing roots. Indy, great videos! Will show your second one to the Blacksheep still disheartened by the P-51 and the AI Dora. I still don't know how to make my own track and put it on YouTube. \/
  8. I haven't had any issues with the AI shooting - until I got on your server last night. I RARELY get shot down off line. However, while I was on your server alone last night, I got bounced once and never saw him. I have no problem out maneuvering him when I do have a tally. I defeat his shooting with no problem; which is evident because every time I defeat his shot, he immediately goes to the vertical. What is uncanny is having 300kts indicated while he climbs up from below me and still leaves me in the dust unable to follow him into the vertical. With that said, I never try to follow him through. Before bleeding off all my E, I go into a shadowing tactic on either of his aft quarters and wait for his next move. \/
  9. Just flew several sorties tonight. Won 4 out of 5 but the energy battle is definitely in the Dora's favor. I in no way can match the climb, even going max RPM and manifold pressure with WEP for a few moments. One F2 screen shot shows it holding 87kts in the climb to get away from me. It twists, rolls, and turns in the climb while still pulling away. One win I had tonight, the Dora gave up and just climbed and pulled away. When I stopped the session, I took a screen shot of the Dora's icon. While still smoking and leaking gas, it was 5.2miles climbing and extending while I was following the whole time. It IS frustrating, but at the same time I find the challenge exhilarating. \/
  10. I'm betting that's where all the fighting will be on-line. The Dora's won't go higher, so the Pony drivers will be forced to come down just to enjoy an engagement. There are no bombers to protect at 30K, so the fight will be low. \/
  11. As a retired Naval Aviator and current Airline pilot, I can say with absolute certainty... starts are not visible at FL370. Above 80,000ft the sky gets dark enough to see a few of the higher magnitude stars. Most are still washed out by the sun in the thin atmosphere. IL2 had stars showing at 15,000ft, which always made my laugh a little. \/
  12. They can't get a flyable Dora released soon enough!!! Very frustrating trying to fly on line with/against someone. It really hinders my Pony flying time. I'm betting servers will pop up once the Dora is flyable. \/
  13. It's a chore for sure, and it tends to still out perform an unhit/undamaged Pony which makes me suspect. I have a screen shot of the 190 badly hit, smoking from the manifolds and spewing fuel all while climbing away and leaving my undamaged Pony in the dust during an extended climb out. When the AI is beat down, it quits the fight. I get several of those... but it will out perform the Pony till you blow its wing off. VERY Frustrating. With that said, engine management is huge, but the Pony's Merlin will not match the AI's pure flight characteristics in regards to the 190's energy tactics. You have to fool it a little by being unpredictable. It knows where you are, your exact airspeed, alpha, energy state, and where your pipper is pointing at all times. Show it a little something to draw it in, then change something, i.e., attitude, angle of bank, engine RPM. It's like a chess move where you want to try to think ahead of the AI and manipulate it into a bad situation. You can do this without blowing the Merlin. V
  14. Kewel, it's a fight! I'll bring a fellow Blacksheep as a wingman. Fights On, Fights On!!!! :pilotfly: S! ;) V
  15. Love the new update! Haven't tried it on-line yet to see if on-line play has smoothed out. My first couple of fights with the Dora... I smacked it down fairly easily, blowin' wings off and such, but then... it seemed to know who it was fighting after that. It adjusted to my tactics and became a REAL challenge. At first I was flying without icon/tags and it started to extend beyond visual range graphically. (my res settings are 1900 x 1200) It got the upper hand quickly due to my loss of SA. Knowing the AI knows exactly where I am at all times, I decided I wasn't getting any training this way so I turned the tags on so I could stay in the fight. Getting an 8:1 kill ratio including the "I quite" mode the AI takes when hit enough. It pitches up and hangs on the prop at 97kts and climbs away with no hope of the Pony following. I did find it frustrating that the Dora spewing black smoke a fuel vapes could still out-perform an undamaged Pony and climb away. I have a screen shot with the engine cowling riddled with hits hanging on the prop and I just can't catch'em. Looking forward to taking on some FW-190 fanboys when it becomes flyable. ;-) V
  16. I've had DCS A-10C for over a year and the P-51D. Not been motivated to dive in to the A-10C as of yet, but love the P-51 flying off-line. Flying on-line in Rise of Flight has been an incredible experience for the Blacksheep, so we don't think we have issues with our member's connections. A few of my squadron mates and I recently tried to fly the Pony on-line and experienced some terrible lag by all involved on several servers via the DCS World Multplayer option. Aircraft slewing miles at a time, disappearing in the ground with a dust cloud effect just to have the guy I was flying against reappear behind me after thinkin' he just augured into the ground. Formation flying gets a little hairy as well seeing the wingman jump around and slew into you. BOOOM! Is this the typical performance we'll expect flying on-line in DCS World, or is there some issues taking place with connections via the multi-player function? Thnx, V
  17. That did it! Thnx! Now... gotta go back and remember what functions I had assigned on my CH fighterstick, Pro throttle, and throttle quad. ;-) Appreciate the help! \/
  18. In the "game" version it shows up at the bottom of the list under Flight Control, but still not there in "sim" version. Same results when I display ALL keyboard functions. WEP is not listed in the sim version. How do I get it added back in? I know it's suppose to be there in both because a squadron member has it listed in both. \/
  19. Oh yeah... they use flaps. See it all the time. I can't see how going to the virticle leaving me standing still as they do from a low energy state without WEP. I stated in another thread tha wep is not listed in the sim version but it listed in the game version. One of my squadron mates has it listed in both. V
  20. I have the function listed in P-51D Game, but it is missing under P-51D Sim. Any idea how to fix this? \/
  21. Don't get me wrong! I am a 12 year vet with combat flight sims. CFS2, IL2, RoF, LOMAC, DCS A-10 and now the P-51. The AI in this sim is simply the best so far. As far as War Emergency Power in the sim, that I was not aware of, nor can I find how to activate it. It explains a lot too! Is it listed under another nomenclature? Or is there something clickable in the 'pit? Now knowing there is a WEP function, I'm Purdy happy with the results I'm having after all. Now I know why the AI can run me down in a flat run too! ;-) \/
  22. I'm fully aware of the parameters to manage the engine, and trimming. The times I do loose the engine is to purposely evaluate what it takes to maintain and exceed the energy state of the AI. It's not realistic, but as I said makes it more of a challenge to overcome. I can stay away from the bogey all day long staying within those parameters. As far as flying against someone on line.. I don't see a problem winning most of the fights. In regards to knowing where your bogey's piper is, I'm talking about the tiniest of deflection that the AI is fully aware of and can defeat with a slight wing dip, not in general to the bogey's aspect like a human flyer. I too am aware of my bogeys aspect - but exactly where his piper is? You'd have to be in his cockpit to know that! \/
  23. I've been flying against the highest level AI settings with some success. 7 out of 10 sorties, I bag the AI, but only after about 20 or more minutes of intense maneuvering to fool the AI's energy fighting strategy. The other 30% is from loosing my engine by trying to match energy states - which I have NEVER been able to attain. I've even tried not to engage to see if I could match energy status with the AI. My engine gives out doing so almost every time. The AI is fun and challenging, but at the same time damned frustrating and completely unrealistic. Being a computer I'm flying against, it knows my exact energy state, alpha, where my gun sight is pointing in space at all times, no matter what his aspect to me is. I've seen it make just the most minute bank, or pitch maneuver to completely ruin a gun solution... when a live pilot would have no idea where my piper is to make such decisions. In some testing to see what happens, I have gotten the AI to bleed down with me in a canopy to canopy rolling scissor. At what is perceived to be matching energy states in a neutral stand-off, a little cross control and slight reduction in power by me to get him to overshoot is initiated. Once the AI realizes it can not make the turn with me, it immediately breaks off and extends to the vertical with the most impressive display of instant energy obtaining in excess of 500ft or more of altitude above me just to resume its energy fighting program. Where does this energy state come from? All-in-all however, I enjoy the challenge and have really learned to fly the Pony to the very edge of its performance envelope. If were too easy, I guess I would get board with it. ;-) Vidar BSS214.com
  24. Hi guys, One of our members is loosing all game sound while Teamspeak is on. He's found a work-around where he can start Teamspeak up again once he has taxied the P-51 onto a runway. If he lands, he losses the game sound again once he leaves the runway environment or lands all together. So far, no one else in the Blacksheep has had this problem. Anyone have any idea what's causing this and/or how to fix it? Thnx! \/
