  1. I cannot get the slider on my X52 throttle to assume responsibility for zooming my "vision" in and out.

Before I moved to Windows 7 64bit it was easy.

In the game options I would select X52 as input device, Select axis, and change "zoom" by merely moving the slider. Simple...

I may be missing something obvious!

Anyone have a solution to this?

  2. It's the flight models and pretty much what everyone else wrote.

The negatives of this game and the games industry pressures are apparent. It still escapes me how microprose would release a game in 1993 costing 40$ and today games still cost 40$ (and no, modern coding and efficient dev programs do not make up for this.) Sounds like a loss for consumers to pay 100$ but if it would give us better games (which we need) I would pay it. At any rate I digress....

  3. No problem... let us know what you do.

Personally Im waiting to trade away my 8800gts 640mb for the ATI releases, hopefully next month.

I'm never one to tell people "wait for this!" because that waiting game usually sucks. But these cards may be high performers and you tend to hold onto your equipment for the longer term.

  4. HOw bout waiting 1 more month for you and Ironhand... ATI is SUPPOSED to come out with new cards in June.

I recall seeing that 1gig versions of the 8800gt and 9600gt realizing little gains. Something on the order of 3% over a sample of games. Lockon is of course not benchmarked anymore. Study study... lol

I have a 1GB 7950 GX2 I'm on the fence between the 1GB 8800GT and the 1GB 9600GT or waiting for the next series and upgrading the entire PC next year...
  5. Ironhand... Look for deals on a 8800gt 512mb (not 256mb)

The incremental cost over a 9600gt is worth it... especially nice if you can find one with a non standard cooler... overclocking a gpu is safe and yields noticeable gains.

You're a Canuck yes? post the online places or brick-n-mortar stores where you like to buy. That will help narrow the search.

    Let us know m8

EDIT ... Perfect example right here ... 8800gt with better cooling and a nice price after rebate >>> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125088

  6. I was browsing newegg.

    www.newegg.com

I'm picky about ordering things this expensive online. I ordered every single part on my new computer from them, no hicups, no hassle, no DOAs, so I'm pretty much going to stick with them.

Ah ha great choice... be careful of your dead pixel tolerance though, newegg has a very high dead pixel count policy. Shouldn't have to worry though, dead pixels are rare if frustrating.

So your budget is around 359$ ...?

Why not consider choosing with these search terms?

There are quite a few 24in monitors in there. If you have the video card to pump out 1920x1200 (not really an issue in LockOn) I would consider it... heck, even games at 1680x1050 on these monitors look really good. 2 more inches really is nice, and those who really have used both, know that 1920x1200 on a 24in is a really what "you" want.

If the newegg pixel policy bothers you, try other places and I would not buy without referencing this site at least once before you buy... outstanding deals creep up on this outstanding deal engine from time to time.

Above all RedTiger... I encourage you to buy a monitor that has a color gamut well above 72% ... pay no attention to contrast ratio specs, they are nefarious marketing terms.

  7. Think about it.... humans are sort of built to look forward of their heads but also... side to side. Like we were cavemen looking at the open plain for animals to hunt... or last week when you were at the club looking for tail to chase.

Thus the wide format seems much more natural...

Its awesome. I have a 27in Samsung widescreen and its my favorite thing about my system.

  8. Is this a MiG-29 or a Su-27? Also, if it is a MiG-29 does anyone know which type? The missile seems to come right off the wingtip - it would be reasonable for the angle to make it look that way if it's one of the 8-pyloned migs, but not a 6-pyloned one, I think.

This is a question which I was thinking of early GG...

At first I thought the pilot may have been giving a little bit of right rudder and trying to go more pure of an aspect on the UAV ... so the relative motion b/w the missile and plane look like the missile is starting out on the outside....but the opposite is the case. The jet is actually drifting to his own left (hence why he crosses the missile smoke trail.)

    at any rate... I digress...

There I think only three theories left...

    1) The resolution is not good enough to tell...

    2) It is a Mig-35 and is new to the area.. would fit an export designation to abkhazia...

    3) Wing vortices are immediately pushing the trail to the outer part of the wing...like this

    http://www.sikunews.com/img/siku/publish/2007/10/mig29-ovt2.jpg

Not the same aspect in the picture.... but in the video you can see the pilot is pulling the stick when firing

WHo knows... still very interesting video!
