  1. ...and they still haven't implemented a way to set three separate buttons corresponding to the weapon burst-length in the Ka-50. ...or provided an enumerated list of the cockpit_device_id:s, the down:s and the corresponding value_down:s in order to let me tinker with the scripting myself in order to get the setup that suits me best. (I still can't use the Autopilot switch on the TM Warthog throttle to set the burst-length reliably :()
  2. I got the messages prompting me for activations, but I was like  and decided to do it later, exiting out of them all. In spite of this the simulator still launched and I was able to complete the A-10C landing training without using any activations. Needless to say this made me even more
  3. I use the velcro included with the pedals (very easy to remove from a wooden floor and left no stains, I might add) and a couple of chocks (doorstoppers) for my chair. Works perfectly.
  4. My best tip is to find a good, concise startup checklist, then use that for your startups. I started remembering bits and pieces after my fifth startup, and from there I slowly stopped looking at the checklists and started doing it from memory with no lesser success. (for both A-10C and Ka-50) I'm using: This one for A-10C... ...and this one for Black Shark. Also, if you have an iDevice, you can look up "iWarthog" on iTunes, which contains useful checklists for both startup and normal ops.
  5. Thanks. I've been wondering about that for a while.
  6. ...and altitude. IIRC the "K" (half-lead elevated by constant) guidance mode sets the missile on an intercept trajectory without letting the intercept point being below the target altitude. I think that goes a long way to prevent missiles diving into the ground. In addition to that, as previously mentioned... The big boys are there to watch the high altitudes, then force targets into the WEZ of its little bros.
  7. @BIGNEWY That's the good thing about A-10C, because it's no big deal if the switch is in the wrong position when you start the simulator. Glad you got it working, though  I think there's been complaints about the EAC lacking a "cycle" command, because as it stands, it requires two buttons to operate, if you don't have a toggle switch at the ready. I guess you could use some sort of script for it, where the pushbutton sends out alternating keypresses, but DCS does not appear to support this. I'll get back to you in case I find something, but you should search the forum because I seem to recall someone writing a tutorial on this before.
  8. I'm sorry, Bignewy... but I can't tell the difference, except for the line numbering...? 510 {combos = {{key = "JOY_BTN19"}, }, down = iCommandPlaneAHCPMasterArm, name = "Master switch ARM", category = "Armament HUD Control Panel"}, Do you mean this bit: [...] combos = {{key = "JOY_BTN19"}, } [...] ? If you do, then I was a bit unclear in the section for the A-10C. The combos section denotes (fairly clearly) which button is bound to the action in question, and the lack of that bit only indicates the button is unbound on the device you're looking at. Am I missing something now, or did I miss something when I wrote the tutorial? :P
  9. Incidentally, due to the stuff needed to use Black Shark 2, a person interested in some Black Shark action is most likely cheaper off getting Black Shark 3. ;) (I WANT IT)
  10. Sounds a bit like an axis conflict to me. Have you made sure you only have one axis bound to the pitch under Axis Assign?
  11. This happened to me when I got a new throttle quadrant. The pitch and roll axes were bound to the levers on this throttle causing a situation where the joystick and the throttles were democratically voting on which position the in-sim stick should be. A quick trip to the options menu later I had reinstated dictatorship in a bloody coup where an entire category was cleared out. It's probably something like this in your case, so it shouldn't be a problem to fix.
  12. Page 47; Item #1 Page 93; Described under the AN/APS-13 RWR section (still, a picture of the light would be nice for the next revision of the manual, pretty please? ;))
  13. Looks like that fellow in the Mercedes might have reason to be worried. :D
  14. I always interpreted the popped smoke as "Touché, good Sir"... but I do tend to drop LGBs on them... Is there any footage of a tank actually popping smoke out there? (the only one I saw on YT was pretty low quality :()
  15. A horrible way as opposed to this stuff? Just... Humans have interesting ways of killing each other, don't we? (OT: I'm also in favour of napalm in DCS)
  16. I get the following message when trying to launch Multiplayer: Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS.exe R6030 - CRT not initialized Followed by the application simply failing to launch. I'm able to launch Multiplayer via the regular DCS World executable just fine (Launcher.exe), but not via the shortcut. This is very reproducable and happens every time. Enclosing my DxDiag in the hopes that it may be of use. ;) DxDiag.txt
  17. Somehow that makes me picture a cartoon soldier with stars over his head while the chopper pilot is looking down with a very red face. :D (it's probably less funny when one takes into account what that must weigh)
  18. Thank you both for that  Going to do the swap to Windows 7 then, as it feels like the best upgrade for me right now. RAM can wait until it's time to build a new box. ;)
  19. For clarification, I'm not overly concerned about DCS World as a whole; I think that's a brilliant idea. Just the feature of being able to fly any plane from within one core program (and not having to install multiple versions of the terrain) is just splendid. My worries lie more with the brand itself, as I'm genuinely curious what the core values of DCS are. Most of it seems to be conjecture based on the previous titles released, but there has, to my knowledge not been an official statement saying "This is DCS: when you buy a product with this brand you can expect the following level of fidelity, etc." What's the acceptable lower limit for realism? For instance, how much guesswork is allowed in constructing the systems and flight model? How many systems in a plane are allowed to go unmodeled? Stuff like that has been on my mind lately. ;) I can't say I'm expecting it to happen, but I'd be a bit disappointed if, say DCS: JAS 39 Gripen was released, but only half the systems were modeled. Obviously I should do my due diligence in these cases, but out of curiosity... would that sort of thing be allowed in a DCS-branded product? The main reason I made this thread is because of that single question. It's not a huge issue, though. As it's been said, if something interests me I'll buy it, otherwise not. I'm going to blame curiosity on this one, though. :P
  20. Hi all, This may very well be a silly question, or answered somewhere else, but I've found myself asking "what is the definition of DCS?" In the past I have been able to have an absolute certainty that if the product is branded "DCS", it will be made to the highest standard with regards to flight models, avionics, etc. Due to this the DCS brand has allowed me to buy the simulator without a doubt, knowing that I would get something at A-10C-level fidelity. Now, with the birth of DCS World and the integration of third party titles capable of being DCS level products, I ask myself: What are the official requirements a simulator needs to fulfill in order to be allowed to use this brand, with regards to accuracy and fidelity? Another thing that cause me some concern is the rumoured integration of FC3 (a survey sim) into DCS World, a move that I feel would bring it under the DCS umbrella of products. Right now the SU-25T has been included in World (for free, I know, and that's nice), but it's not clearly separated from the Study Sim variety of aircraft. Right now every available module is listed in the menu of DCS World, and if one does not own the module in question, it's there with a dollar sign over it. I'm worried that this menu is going to be cluttered with survey-sim level aircraft at some point in the future, very far from the DCS icon I'm clicking in order to start it up. The main reason I made this thread is that I feel that I would like to know what, in the words of ED, makes DCS what it is today. In short, I'd like some reassurance that it's safe to buy the pig in the bag, assuming the bag is labeled DCS, as I've done before. So, pardon the ramblings of a (hopefully unduly) worried fellow. I'm hoping this does not offend anyone and in case it does, please let me know so I can clarify things. ;)
  21. ...or each other, when this technology becomes portable. :(
  22. Hi all, To start out, I have the following: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz 4 GB of RAM (type unknown) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 (2 GB) Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) (booo! Hiss!) I'm now considering an upgrade to Windows 7, 64-bit and to get 16 GB of RAM (Corsair Dominator GT Quad 16GB). Now, with the processor and the mobo, it's probably going to get pretty severely bottlenecked, but I think I can salvage the RAM when I inevitably decide to take the plunge and make a complete upgrade. The question is, would this be worth doing at all? I'm expecting a slight performance increase just from firing Vista, but would I be able to run a 64-bit OS on my current processor? Thanks in advance for any help you might give me. :)
  23. The AI uses a simpler flight model, which makes AI landings different from player landings. There was a thread about the A-10C where this came up and it led people to use the wrong procedure (as the AI has a shorter roll distance after landing, for instance). I can't say how it'll be in the Mustang's case, but the AI can trick you. :P I'd personally recommend the training mission on landings in the Mustang, I find the gates help with procedure, distances and similar things. :smartass:
  24. Haha, I caught myself going "Oh, E3" but... there's nothing on there except Firaxis' Xcom and a bunch of silly hype for things we're not going to be seeing any time soon. :P Well... that and the angry posts on RPS. It's funny, though... I have a friend who's really into strategy and when I proposed getting a flight sim for him to come fly with me he was more like "I want to be the commander that tells you what to shoot." Then bam, CA. I shall try to get a convert at that time. :D
  25. I saw Dmut's post after I made mine, sorry. :P (this forum is full of ninjas and snipers)
