  1. Well, that's way more than I was expecting. I can afford it, but I don't think I can justify it, not at that price.
  2. I've been wanting an F-35 HOTAS for years ... I'm assuming the RS PRO range of products vs Non-Pro range is that the PRO range is not available for public consumption? https://realsimulator.com/rs-35-pro/
  3. Who knows. It all depends on how they actually implement the rendering engine for VR. But I am looking forward to see what they will do with Vulkan.
  4. About time! https://www.aspistrategist.org.au/australia-chooses-apache-as-tiger-helicopter-replacement/
  5. Yeah I had it off just to see where I would hit 90fps during testing, I've turned it on and it's fairly smooth. I'll just work towards getting DCS running as smoothly as possible, and live with the limitations of the game engine.
  6. Yeah I see that now, but not having flown - much - for the past 2 years I wasn't up to speed with the nuances of DCS' current state. So after getting my G2, I was trying understand why I wasn't matching Bignewys results even though I had almost identical specs (prior to getting a RTX3090) to him. Turns out, going by his videos, he's in a 1v1 engagement up high - a pretty light scenario for any PC. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, just that when providing settings and stats we need to also know the details of the test environment the stats came from. This goes back to my point earlier about ED needing to provide a standardised benchmark tool for DCS so we call all make like for like comparisons, it would not only help us with hardware configs / purchase decisions etc., but would also help the developers for optimisations etc. I primarily like flying SP or COOP ground pounding missions so I'll often find myself around "busy" spots on a map, even if I build the missions myself. So I figured I'd just look at a demanding situation for the simulation, like a busy airfield, and work on getting the best results I could from that, because flying out side of that would almost guarantee a smooth flight. Anyway ... it is what it is. Lets just hope the implementation of Vulcan brings some welcomed increases in performance
  7. Yeah once I read the thread you have linked in your sig I saw they were separate - all good I've installed both. Re: Cockpit vs External shadows ... ah I see. I'll have to get a deeper understanding of DCS settings then. Re: Motion Smoothing ... gotcha ... I'm not too fussed about hitting 90fps consistently. I'm happy with lower fps as long as DCS is smooth. However again, when pointed in the direction of Las Vegas, looking around in the cockpit is stutter city. Prior to going through this I did have motion smoothing enabled and when flying on Caucuses it was great, but I thought I had nailed the setting until such point I started looking at Nevada
  8. Same test after installing Shadow and Shader mods ... slight improvement.
  9. Haven't installed any shader mods, but will do so now and re-run the test. There's no track file, it's simply loading into the Cold and Dark "Instant Action" mission on the Nevada map. I don't actually fly around, just look around in the pit, and follow the lead AI F-15E taking off for a while. Re: motion smoothing - Yes, because it caps at half frame rates as you mentioned earlier, I wanted to be able to hit 90fps if I was able to for the purpose of testing. What I'm trying to work on fixing / improving is every time Las Vegas comes into view, my frame rate tanks and my CPU frame times go through the roof.
  10. @speed-of-heat Here is a video of what I'm seeing on Nevada. (Excuse the audio ... I don't know why the audio has these micro-dropouts) Disabled Windows Game Mode Disabled Windows Full Screen Optimisations NVIDIA Control Panel settings are the same as Bignewy. WMRP Reprojection set to Per Application SteamVR General resolution = 100% SteamVR DCS App resolution = 100% / Motion Smoothing = DISABLED (for full fps range in VR) DCS Settings are shown in the video ... note shadows set to low
  11. Already done the reinstall last night. But I wasn't looking to get a performance boost from that alone, I done it so I could eliminate the "unknown" factors in my PC while trying to tweak everything.
  12. "Window Capture" in the "Sources" section, one for DCS and another for fpsVR?
  13. @BIGNEWY How did you capture DCS and fpsVR in your videos? Do you use OBS?
  14. Thanks guys. I've just finished a complete wipe and reinstall of Windows, a completely clean system feels so much more responsive. I'm about 1/3 of the way through downloading all the DCS modules I own (I love this sim too much), it's still going be ages until it's all finished and I've still got all the drivers and tools to install again. Thanks for pointing out the AA conflict - I missed that. I've seen in a YT video by "Lukas S. / Wolta" that NVIDIA's implementation of AA is better than than DCS so that's something I want to look into further. I think it's possible to record data from fpsVR so I'll do some testing tomorrow.
  15. NVIDIA Control Panel for DCS.exe: DCS: SteamVR General: SteamVR App - DCS:
  16. I'm getting below 35 fps sitting on the ramp a Nellis ... I'm wondereing if my CPU just isnt up to the task or, there's something with my OS / installed software. As I type I'm preparing for a fresh wipe / reinstall of everything.
  17. This is one thing everybody needs to take into account when trying to compare frame rates and frame times - you need to have a standardised approach when benchmarking performance in DCS. Ideally ED would create a benchmark tool so the whole community has a standard test to run so accurate comparisons can be made. I've seen it suggested to use a standardised track file but, from what I understand, that has problems in itself when DCS World is updated. What I've been doing to test settings is hop into an F-16 in Cold and Dark instant action missions on Caucuses, Nevada and Syria. I stay on the ramp, and just look around in the cockpit and I also F2-View around on other aircraft flying on the map and then take note of the stats in fpsVR at certain points. For me this provides an all-round impression of the performance. To date Nevada is the worst performer, it hammers my CPU hard and DCS stutters when looking around in the cockpit, I suspect it's because Las Vegas is being drawn in the background.
  18. Was already using it. I find the debug tool useful as it would highligt the moment a bottleneck would occur without having to constantly look down to see fpsVR in VR. For example it was interesting to see that wing vortex affects frame times on the GPU.
  19. Spot on - It was an option in WMR The biggest problem I couldn't solve, while I had the 2080Ti and now my new 3090, was when looking down on to the terrain below, I would get stutters or double vision(? if that makes sense) it was like the left and right eyes were out of sync. It was so bad it would give me a nauseous sensation. After digging a little I came across @imacken post here, and reading through the MS doc I noted I didn't have Motion Reprojection enabled. (Note: The green square is a debug option under "Developer" -> "Enable motion reprojection status indicator". Its helped me see where motion reprojection was kicking in during flight, and to know if the CPU or GPU was hitting any "walls", thus help me decide which settings in DCS to set / change. ) Setting Motion Reprojection to Auto has changed everything for me and I'm now getting buttery smooth frame rates / frame times. If people are intersted I can post my settings in a new thread.
  20. @plane_crazy242. lol ... I hear ya bud. I've been at this thing for days now. It even drove me to go out and get a RTX3090!! and I still can't find that sweat spot. Even with a 3090, DCS runs like crap in certain sections for me with ALL settings set to "potatoe" It's now 5am New Year's Day and haven't slept because I've been reading up on this and I'm hoping to get some tweaking done before I have to nurse my wife's hangover when she wakes up I'm hoping the future updates to the DCS rendering engine will provide a better VR experience.
  21. That won't work on its own, not without hacking away at the nose rest and making room for the cable connector. And it still wouldn't address the narrow width of the faceplate, at least for me anyway.
  22. Please do, my son is also getting a G2 and he tried mine and had the same issue with the face plate being too tight - fat heads run in the family ...
  23. I suspect it's all down to the CPU. Compared to BN stated system specs - I have a slightly higher clocked GPU (MSI Gaming Trio X 2080ti), higher clocked RAM @3200, but I'm on an AMD system (AMD 3900X on X570), my CPU boost clock is lower than the i7 10900X and I think that's where the meat is. I can only manage 90fps in open terrrain but if I fly over a town or base my fps tanks to 45. The important thing is the frame times I think, if I can maintain between 10 to 20ms I get a smooth ride no matter the fps.
  24. Figured it out ... I must have cleared my "Room Boundry" settings in the Mixed Reality Portal. Reconfiguring it has fixed the issue.
