  1. Because there was some messy business back in 2018/early 2019 involving a US based forum member, a Russian ED employee, and some alleged ITAR violations. If you have halfway decent google abilities you can read all about it, including court filings and the like. It was big enough to make international news. To cut out all the dancing around, obfuscation and corporate speak, that incident is literally the reason 1.16 became what it is.
  2. I’ve found a couple of options out there without having to join wings or squadrons. I’ve been successful in joining popular MP servers like Growling Sidewinder’s or the Dogfight server without any of the “bullshit”. No SRS, TeamSpeak, Discord, etc., etc., etc., required (last I checked). Just select a seat and off you go. I’d suggest that you’re up to speed on your IFF, team kills are obviously frowned upon and will sometimes get you booted from the server. But yeah, the vast majority of MP is hidden behind passwords and requirements for other scripts or installs to be running. I don’t know how most of that works either. I personally don’t have the large amount of free time required to invest in the squadron approach. And I’ve never gotten SRS to work. If it requires editing scripts, working with .lua’s, host/client knowledge or whatever, it pretty much guarantees that I can’t participate. You shouldn’t have to be a goddamn programmer or IT professional to get this stuff to work, but that’s DCS a lot of times. In summary, there’s a reason the vast majority of people stick with single player.
  3. THANK YOU for fixing the trees! Amazing!
  4. They can say whatever they want, and have for years now. It’s all just words anymore. I’ll “be happy” if we ever actually see any results, and based off ED statements on other sites any substantive improvements to core DCS (ATC, weather, ME, Combined Arms) are still a very long way off.
  5. Thanks for the info. My search-fu failed me. Oh give me a break.
  6. Sorry I don’t really know what you’re saying. I haven’t seen a performance difference, good or bad. Just much uglier trees. Is it fixable, or is this the new normal?
  7. It’d been a couple months since I updated, been out of the country for work. I updated last week and noticed while re-orienting with the F-18 that you could see wide area tree patterns more easily, like their repeating nature is more obvious. Then I got in the Huey last night. Low and slow the trees look really bad, super janky and angular. It’s like a child’s impression of cubism, especially the deciduous, non-conifer trees. I ran a clean up and repair with no improvement. Did something happen to the trees while I was gone? Is there a fix, or maybe a way to mod back in the trees from a couple months ago? It really looks bad while helicopter flying (and not great from altitude either). Edit: My screenshots aren't uploading, I’ll try again later. Thanks!
  8. I was really disappointed with the Rift S announcement. I’d been holding out hope for a true Oculus 2nd gen headset with at least a substantial FOV increase, or something to differentiate it. Instead they’re releasing a WMR clone. That’s fine if people like the Oculus ecosystem and want to stay with it, and Oculus is smart not to ignore the middle, more budget oriented market. But specs are a higher priority for me with VR and the Rift S falls really far short of an upgrade justification. (I’d actually consider it a downgrade if I purchased the S.) In my opinion the S doesn’t dispel the growing concern that Oculus doesn’t care about the hardcore PC gaming market anymore. I also agree that the existence of this sticky is just a Facebook quid pro quo to push a HMD that’s bordering on obsolete before it’s even released. One just has to look at all the non-sticky’d threads directly below this one to get really excited about new hardware.
  9. But in Notepad++ there isn’t a .cfg option in the “Save as Type” dropdown. File -> Save As File Name: “autoexec.cfg” Save as Type: ???
  10. Excuse my ignorance but is the autoexec file supposed to be saved as a .lua in Notepad ++? Do I manually add the .cfg suffix so that it looks like “autoexec.cfg”? Sorry, I don’t know how this “inside baseball” coder stuff works.
  11. Is the launch bug going to be addressed? With the deck sliding and inconsistent ability to launch carrier operations are currently still not worth the trouble. :(
  12. I mean this with respect, but that’s exactly what you’ve done with the interior sounds. You may have recorded every dial and switch in a real F-14, but the mix is so intentionally skewed it bares little resemblance to what flying a Tomcat actually sounds like. I personally hope the “final” state of the sounds is reconsidered.
  13. Never played multiplayer. It happens on self built missions and the lessons.
  14. I always reassign my EJECT key to the spacebar. In all the other modules the reassignment keeps the press-3-times requirement. In the F-14 it is only requiring one press. Since I’m in VR there have been more than a few accidental punch-outs while feeling for a different key. Can this get fixed please?
  15. Definitely a bug. I’ve also only been able to get launched correctly if I start on the catapult. In any other circumstance I have to connect-then run my engines up-then IDLE my engines-then salute-then I get launched with my engines at IDLE. Won’t work any other way.
  16. You’re making a lot of assumptions about Chuck’s motives and trying to sell them as fact, and for good reason people here aren’t buying it. Oh wait, it’s only ok when you do it: Chuck’s done a lot of good work in this community over the years and is a genuinely friendly and helpful person, so I take him at his word. You on the other hand just shitpost and troll in threads for modules you don’t even own. Even with your little involuntary leave-of-absence you came straight back to petty shitposting in every thread you visit. So I’ll ask the same question as another poster: What are you even doing here? EDIT: Oh, and it’d be an honor if you’ll add me to your sad little list too.
  17. I’m pretty good at keeping up with the Hornet systems and updates, but I honestly don’t know what the hell 90% of Wag’s post even means. What are “C2 aircraft” and “C2 contacts”? So, upper antenna for A/A TACAN, lower antenna for A/G TACAN? How do we choose the antenna? That is pretty much the only clear info I gleaned from the post...I think. I assume any of the freqs outside the A/A 37-63, but yeah, I have no idea either.
  18. I haven’t “piped up” because I see there’s multiple threads and hundreds of posts on this issue so I assumed it was being taken seriously. My bad for assuming I guess, I’m piping up now. I’ve also been experiencing the random black square blinking since the moment I updated the OB in December. It can be extremely disorienting in VR. No other changes have been made to my system and none of my other games experience this. It is 100% a DCS issue.
  19. Yeah their annual announcements have a tendency to repeat themselves don’t they. Except I noticed that they didn’t even say “coming this year!” this time. It’s all just ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ at this point smh.
  20. This has always been a concern in the back of my mind. What happens if DCS gets too successful, starts attracting the attention of the big houses. One of them decides to buy ED... Year 0-1: nothing much changes, behind the scenes transitions. 1-2: increased content output, but new subscription model with micro transactions introduced. 2-3: quantity is favored over quality. High talent turnover, not much of the old guard left. 3+: ED is slowly bled dry, eventually becomes Ace Combat competitor. Passionate old guard forms new studio, starts from scratch again to carry the study sim torch. Wash, rinse, repeat. (I think this is all extremely unlikely...except for the subscription model. Mark my words, it’ll happen. (And I wouldn’t necessarily consider it a bad thing.))
  21. They're not going to address it soon and they don’t respond anymore to questions/comments/concerns about tracks, if they ever did. It’s one of the biggest and longest running and most posted about issues with the core sim that has spanned every single version, and ED pretends like it doesn’t exist. All I know is that in the ten friggin years that tracks have been borked there has never been the slightest indication that they plan to fix them.
  22. I don’t know if anyone is necessarily stopping them. ED seems to have a good enough relationship with Boeing already. Warning: Speculation Ensues!! My guess is the roadblock they hit (if they were even attempting to upgrade it in the first place) was the rudimentary state of the radar and the amount of investment at the time that it would require to bring it up to ED’s full module standard. Radar and its integration with other systems has been, continues to be, and will be for the foreseeable future, a massive aspect of F-18 development. They’ve also repeatedly said that it’s one of the very foundational techs for future modules. Presumably the advancements ED’s made with the F-18 are what’s allowing them to be so optimistic about a 2019 F-16 release (color me skeptical though). But if they have, or have ever had, plans for an Eagle upgrade, I think the chances for it increase significantly once ED is comfortable with the state of their current radar development. /speculation
  23. I was creating a refinery attack mission on sirri island, trying to recreate some Iran/Iraq war stuff, and couldn't figure out why the hell none of the refineries or platforms I placed were visible from distance. Looks like I found my answer. Is this being addressed? Because it sure makes for sucky infrastructure attack missions when you can't see the infrastructure you're supposed to attack.
  24. You know, you have some interesting observations and theories about the various flight models in DCS and I suspect you might be right about some of them. You may even have some valuable knowledge that could help improve DCS. But you have no credibility here for two reasons. You don’t have actual proof, just ranting speculation, no matter how informed that may be. And conspiracy theory shit like this: And And this is how you respond to people that “dare” asking questions with I’m not going to reply to any lunatic nonsense you have to say, though I doubt you’ll be able to help yourself. But seriously, cut that shit right out or go find another sim to harass.
