  1. It's a bit clearer than it was on my DK2. However, the head tracking is much better, allowing you to really stick your face up to everything. Often times in the DK2 the tracking would "skip", making the use of MFDs a particular pain. One problem I was having with the Vive is that the mouse cursor was slaved to head movement, so it was made grabbing smaller switches and knobs a bit more difficult. The cursor also seemed to render at a variable depth, sometimes causing it's image to split when it was too close to the viewpoint. I'm sure they'll be able to sort this stuff... especially once they get the Vive controllers to track correctly. They already have two gloved hand models attached to the controllers, but like I said they are not oriented correctly with the controllers making them almost impossible to use. Setting up the IR camera MFD on the A10 was extremely immersive other than the finicky mouse pointer. Also, with the Vive it is doing full room tracking, so you can actually stand up and walk outside and around the plane while it's flying. Which is both thrilling and ridiculous.
  2. I've got this running in the Pre. Very cool stuff so far. However, my "hands" seem to be aligned incorrectly with the controllers. Is there some kind of calibration I'm supposed to do to get the hands working correctly? Are they supposed to be able to interact with the cockpit? Pulling the trigger seemed to do nothing...
  3. How does what you just described possibly answer his question? You just throw some units into the mission editor, assign them roles, and JTAC will transmit you a data link that gives you a red triangle on their location to engage them while flying the mission and then, well Bobs your uncle winky smiley thumbs up?
  4. Targetting Mavs with the TGP is a better method, however- In the first campaign, with cloud cover at 1,000 feet, this is impossible. I actually have no idea how I'm supposed to deploy my mavs without getting my bird shot up with that low of a cloud cover.
  5. It's come to a point where I never receive a red triangle from data link in any single mission nor campaign mission. This aspect of the game is completely broken. However, as people have said before, you can enter the coordinates given by JTAC manually into the navigation computer as follows: (I believe the poster who wrote this up is WarriorX, and if not, please take credit). Warrior X: I will give it my best shot. JTAC will give you a UTM or Lat/Long coordinate during the 9 line, and if you have your SADL net settings correct, you will also get a data linked target identifier in your TAD (a red triangle). The following is based on JTAC giving you a UTM coordinate. Use a mission data card to get all the info on the UTM coordinate and the specific weapon, direction of attack, direction of egress and weapon requested. To make the UTM coordinate provided by JTAC into a waypoint do the following: Find a safe area to do a wide orbit. Set your autopilot to ALT and then make a left or right banking level turn and hold it. Then engage the autopilot and ensure it is holding the turn and you have no elevation conflicts around you. The UTM coordinates will be in the form of 2 letters and 6 numbers. Make sure your STEER PT switch on your AAP Panel is set to FLT PLAN. Set your right MFCD to the CDU repeater function. *NOTE: If your CDU is not on the WAYPOINT PAGE, then hit the WP key on the CDU, or FUNC 3 on the UFC. This will bring up the page where you can choose to select WAYPOINT by hitting OSB 7. You should now be on the WAYPOINT PAGE and ready to continue. Hit OSB 10 to switch from the default L/L (Lat/Long) to UTM. Hit OSB 9 to select the number presented next to the question mark as your new target waypoint. Using the CDU or the UFC, enter the 2 letters, and 6 numbers without spaces in the scratchpad. Hit OSB 16 to enter the UTM coordinate in to the computer. Verify the number entered is correct. Using the CDU or UFC keypad give your new waypoint a unique name eg: TGT A and hit OSB 7 to change the name. Now turn your STEER PT dial on the AAP from FLT PLAN to MISSION. Use the UFC STEER rocker or with the HUD as SOI, DMS UP to cycle thru the waypoints until you see the unique name you created for this target. Find your target waypoint symbol on the TAD and then use the steering cue's on the HUD to prosecute your attack. EDIT #1: I added the item in italics for anyone who has moved off the Waypoint Page in the CDU, and needs to know how to get back. This method has worked flawlessly through 8 campaign missions for me.
  6. Has there every been a solution for this? I was just playing Georgian Hammer, and even without using the mission editor to modify payload, the JTAC would never send me a red triangle from mission 2 onwards. It's extremely frustrating, as there is no way to actually complete the mission without it. I remember people saying to set group and own IDs to 1 in the NET section of TADS, but that still doesn't give it to me.
  7. Woops, I posted this in the "campaigns and missions" sub forum, but I just read that you're only supposed to post created missions in that forum... so here are my questions: After a week off and on learning the sim, I'm finally competent enough to take on the campaigns. I have a few questions, though- First of all, are the campaign missions set up so that if you fail a mission, you have to restart it? In the first campaign, I flew the first mission, got on station, and JTAC told me to go home. I flew home, landed, and started the next mission. The mission briefing looked almost exactly the same, and the weather was the same as well. Is it just a similar mission, or was I re-doing the first mission? If I crash and die in a campaign mission, do I have to re-do it, or does it just push me to the next one? For campaigns, is there any persistence? If I take out a tank column that wasn't assigned to me, will it be gone in the next mission? Finally, is anyone working on making an alternate first campaign where you start every mission on the runway? I noticed that you start every mission in the second campaign on the runway, but I'm always in the hangar for the first campaign. As much as I love taxiing out and admiring the airfield, I really don't want to do it every time. I could go into the mission editor and set that up myself, but I really don't want to spoil all the missions by doing so. Also, I have zero idea how to use the ME. Thanks!

  9. What is the reasoning behind not powering these up right after takeoff? Do they burnup/malfunction if left on too long?
  10. You definitely do not want to put your NET to 1-1 in all scenarios. For instance, even though I am considered 1-1 in the "Defend the base" (second non-campaign mission in the list), it defaults my NET to 2-1. If I set it to 1-1, I never get a data link. There seems to be no ryhme nor reason to what your NET is supposed to be set to in the game. In the first campaign mission, you should be 1-1 though, and there is a bug sometimes that sets you to something else after takeoff. I just wish there was a way to request another data link from them after the initial one if your NET wasn't set correctly.
  11. When I'm on a JTAC mission, my easy radio menu only gives me JTAC options. On the upper left corner of the screen I can see there are two frequencies, and the JTAC one has a box around it. How do I switch between the JTAC frequency and my usual frequency using the easy radio option? Thanks-
  12. There is a way to enter those coordinates into your waypoint computer. Not sure how, however- If you have your data link switch turned on (it's under the left MFD, not sure exactly what it's called. Check the tooltips for the switches down there... I think it's the bottom right one), after the 9-line they will send you a datalink. This will make a red triangle appear on your TAD map. You can then slew the TAD cursor to that triangle and make it a SPI through the appropriate HOTAS hat command.
  13. OK, you're the second person to tell me to use my poor wingman to draw up fire so I can locate SAMs and AAA. Poor guy, but that's his job for now on. Thanks!
  14. OK, for now on I'm designating an SPI in the target area and telling my wingie to go to it to draw up fire.
  15. Has anyone ever made an external shell dynamic campaign mod for any of the previous ED games, like the ones made for Rise of Flight and IL2? Has anyone said they were going to work on one for A-10?
