  1. Hi all, Just finished my first skin, I tried to make an accurate representation of the VFA-113 CAG bird as it was in 2004 as part of CVW-14 on board of the USS John C. Stennis. - It has the correct BuNo both outisde and in the cockpit - Stingers patch for the pilot - Textures added to fuel tanks - BORT nr is fixed - Has CAG and DCAG callsings I tried my best to find all the details via OS, if anyone has any remarks, please let me know. Thanks to Flanker for providing me some details. Download: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3308961/
  2. Having some spare time at the moment, I started on my first skin fort he F/A-18C. Having no previous knowledge about skinning, GIMP, layers etc, it was a dive in the deep, but I enjoyed the learning curve, and a lot of posts here were very usefull. However, I couldn’t for the life of me find out how to alter the BuNo inside the cockpit, nor could I find anything in the threads. After a lot of trial and error I managed to change it to my liking, and thought I’d share it to save others all the frustrations I had. I'm by no way an expert on this matter, so if anyone has other usefull tips/tricks, please share. I used GIMP as it is free to use, don’t know how PS works out fort his. First locate the file “f18c_cpt-tex01” located in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Cockpit\Textures\FA-18C-CPT-TEXTURES.zip 1. Copy it to a destination of your liking as to not mess up the original file. When you open it with GIMP, you first see a transparant layer with white tekst, and on the right side BUNO with the number below it. 2. If you go tot he channels tab in GIMP, you’ll see there is an alpha layer, the eye icon indicating it is active. If you disable the alpha channel, you’ll now see the cockpit textures. 3. Now select all by Ctrl+A, then use Ctrl+Shift+C to copy all that is visible. If you use Ctrl+C you’ll only copy the white tekst. 4. Open up a new file 4096x4096, and paste the selection here. Anker the selection into the layer. You can now edit the image and cover up the original BuNo by selecting a small layer of the background surrounding the nr, and copy-paste it over the number 5. Use the tekst editor to enter a new BuNo. I found that Gilroy light is a font that matches fairly good with the original font. 6. Add an alpha channel to your layer buy right clicking it and selecting add alpha channel. 7. Using the free select tool, select the whole image, but cut around the BuNo that you made. I found it easier to zoom out, and select over the border to be sure not to miss a bit. 8. When done, select colours to alpha from the colours menu, set transparency and opacity thresholds to full, making everything fully transparent. Make sure alpha layer is active whilst doing this. 9. Now draw a box around the still visible part, select colour to alpha again, set colour to black, and move the transaprency slide just to where the white numbers begin to fade. To far will fade them out, not far enough will make them very coarse on the base layer. 10. Now go back to the first file you openend. Make sure alpha channel is on, select the BuNo and cut it out of the file. Now select all, and copy paste it to your altered file. Move it till it matches the tekst of the cockpit textures, then anker it into the layer. When alpha channel is active, you should now see all the white tekst/marks of the original file, and your altered buno. Make sure to anker all layers into one. Use export as to export it as a .dds file, from hearsay BC3 / DXT5 is a decent compression to use. Make sure to select "generate mipmaps" Finnaly, add the line {"f18c_cpt01-console-arg466", 0, "yournewfilename", false}; into your description.lua file. The white tekst/marks visible on the alpha channel will light up in your cockpit with interior lighting, and this line tells it to use the file from your livery map for this instead of the standard in-game file. Hope this helps others who struggle with this, if anyone else has a better way, feel free to comment.
  3. Hi, I'm working on my first skin of the VFA-113 CAG 2004, and I'm looking for a high res texture or info about a wreath on the right front landing gear bay. I have a scale model myself, but it is too small too see the text on it, as are other sources I found so far. Hoping someone can help me out, thanks in advance!
  4. fixed hotas I had my throttle broke down this weekend too, when i plugged it in, it said incorrect steering program, and the sound you normally hear when plugging in an usb device (the "ding-dong" sound) was replaced by three short "dong" sounds, all lights were dead and it wouldn't show in TARGET. Following the instructions from sofie_59 on page 10 from this thread fixed my problem. Just ran the http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index...&pid=311&cid=1 file, and proceeded with Firmware Update. Lights went on and everything showed in target again. Happy as can be! Hope this works for others who still suffer problems with TM hotas!
