  1. I loaded Windows 10 last week. I tried to use the Smart Technology profile editor yesterday and it would not start. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, ran compatibility mode. I came to the forum and asked people about it. Many said that they were not having problems, but I doubt they tried the profile editor because it doesn't work in Windows10. When I ran the Compatibility test for Windows, it simply said "Incompatible software". This was confirmed (finally) by the Mad Catz Support. When I chatted with them this was the conversation: There are currently 1 people ahead of you in the queue. Your Question: Loaded Windows 10, cannot open profile editor for X52 pro. Have uninstalled and re installed, no luck. Was running before I loaded Windows 10. Ran compatibility test, Windows says it's not compatible. Please wait and one of our operators will be with you shortly. You are now chatting with Mad Catz 12:45Mad Catz: Hello , thank you for contacting Madcatz . Currently there are no drives or software for windows 10 but our web team is working on them at the moment . I apologize for any inconvenience They did not hang out for me to ask when any of this would happen so I'm assuming they are probably in a pickle over Windows 10. So if anyone is able to use the profile editor in Windows 10, is there a work around or is it just working for you without you having to do anything? Thx! Mark
  2. Yeah...I know that it's a Madcatz issue. They aren't supporting Windows 10 as of yet. Just a frustrating pain in the Bhind. I have read a lot of reviews on Windows 10 and it seems that there are many people on both sides of the isle on it. I was no fan of 8. To me...it is a child's tablet toy. Charms screens, having to do two steps for one step operations, and the general layout is just not very user friendly. I'm having several issues with ten also. Will they get fixed? I'm sure that they will, but meanwhile its a royal pain. The layout is better than 8 though. It never ceases to amaze me how software works on one system flawlessly and not on another. It's kind of like the medical field. Every person is different, with their own genetic makeup and chemical composition. When a doctor does a diagnosis on a patient, they can never be 100 sure if its correct or how the treatment will affect the patient.
  3. I know that this subject has been discussed before but I cannot seem to find any threads on it at the moment. I just downloaded some really cool skins but forget how to get them into DCS. Could someone give me quick 411 on this. Thanks!!!!
  4. At the risk of getting in trouble. I just want to say that I have been kicked from the forum for much less offensive and personal comments that I've seen on this thread. Hence...all the red boxes. I am amazed that the wrist slapping hasn't commenced. As far as the F86......It has it's issues, that's for sure. But I have learned to accept that this is a simulator, not a real plane. There are going to be differences. There is no way on earth that these planes will ever be perfect and we should not expect them to be. It's just not realistic to think that they ever could be. Watch the "Revisiting the Dora" video. It's a living testament to this. As good as the Dora is in DCS, even real Dora pilots have to learn to fly the DCS version.
  5. I put Windows 10 on my computer several days ago. Wow.....I thought Windows 8 was bad. Black flashes on my screen (thought my vid card was going out on me), game runs a bit slow with it. windows 10 is a hog when it comes to resources. But the worst thing is that I cannot open my profile editor for my X52 pro. I was getting ready to set profiles for AC and I cannot get the profile editor to open. I have taken it and the drivers out and reloaded them, tried to open it from different places, and as administrator. It just won't open. When I went up to download the editor, there was no option for Windows10 so I am assuming that it'll be a while before I can do anything with it. So if you have Windows10 you may want to check into this. And if you have Windows10 and the profile editor works for you YAY for you!!! LOL, could you enlighten me as to anything I may be doing wrong........please. As far as windows 10 goes.......I see a 100% chance of a Mac in the near future for me. Microsoft really blew it....yet again Vista, Windows 8, and now this junk. Oh....and I am not ready to roll back to 8.1 just yet. I want to give Microsoft the opportunity to redeem this thing.
  6. Yeah....Windows 10 seem a little buggy at this point. It keeps making me activate my antivirus software every time my computer boots up. Also some other software too. As far as sound......I know that it took some time to update all the drivers for my hardware also. Had to go up a few times to update my video drivers. Maybe updating your sound card driver might help. My Nvidia card ran my rig just fine but would bomb on DCS until I finally got it updated.
  7. Wow...I am pretty shocked that the F4U isn't on any lists............
  8. In my opinion...it's most probably just about ready to go out of beta. The thing handles much better than in it's early release. All of the nagging details have been addressed, and it's just fun to fly. Worth the investment.
  9. This is what I thought. I really don't fly the Mi8 all that much because of this. I was very disappointed when they pulled it from both the Huey and Mi8.
  10. Anyone else not able to use Visual recon mode with the F86? I have it set for mouse button 2 (default), it doesn't seem to be able to be assigned to my HOTAS. But when I try to use it in a mission.....won't work. Works for other DCS modules, just not F86....I :helpsmilie: think it won't work with the Huey either. Though I'm not sure. I'll have to check.
  11. Hey wow!!!! I know this place.... I live here!!!
  12. FIXED FIXED FIXED Ah ha!!! Zaelu, you were right, but it's like the track IR deal. You have to uncheck it, and then re check it for it to actually work. Now my door gunner can concentrate on taking out his targets and not flying the AC. Thanks for the input guys!!
  13. Yeah....I have it checked already. But possibly (like the track IR aiming and the gunners working properly) maybe I have to uncheck it and then re check it. I'll give that a try. Thx for the idea.
  14. I knew I wasn't crazy!!! Until a week ago.....My Huey module did this. Now...it does not. If you watch the second video, it shows how the pilot is on "hold" while person is in the gunner position. Did this get removed in a patch or something? Or is there a problem with my module, or some setting that I have to correct? As it is now....I have to steer the AC from the rear gunner's position.
  15. Wait a sec........When I usually get into the gunner's seat or the co-pilot's seat and use the sights. I could completely let go if the stick and the helicopter would fly itself. I could be in a dead fall and switch to one of the gunner's seats and the plane would correct itself. How did that feature just go away?? When I went back to the pilot (1) I could feel the AC jar about as I took the controls back. I did all of this without using any key commands other than 1, 2, 3, 4......So this wasn't originally a feature in the Huey?
  16. Back when these planes were in early Beta, there was a quick start guide for the take off. Man did a lot of people go crazy trying to get it off the ground that way. I actually thought I would shelf the Dora at first. Even people I knew on the servers were avoiding that plane. After a long time of trying, I got to where I could get it off the ground OK and had a 50% success at landing it. After several months of not flying either plane, I saw that video and both are very very cool planes now. And yes...the slip idea is great. It'll slow you right down in a hurry. So far as I can actually feel, both planes kind of take off like the P-51 now. I have to lock the tail wheel of the Dora to take off but that's really the only difference other than using a ton of rudder when accelerating. So thanks Sith for posting that vid and completely restoring my faith in those 2 planes. I feel like I just bought 2 great new modules. And I know I seem like a sap about it but I'm not a full timer on the sim like a lot of you realism nerds (< term of respect). Maybe someday I will, but till then........
  17. I haven't flown in the Huey for a few months. So I decided to do a mission today and found this issue that did not exist before. When I enter a gunner position, I still have to steer the AC, but from the gunner's seat. Any one else ever have this happen? If so...is there a way to fix it? I went into the M.E. and created a mission and it did the same thing. Did this come in an update, or is something amiss in my setup? Maybe I'll do a DCS repair and see if that works.
  18. Yes...I don't have track IR and my co pilot does not zoom as far as pilot.
  19. I watched the video, The only thing I can really say is that I took what he said about both aircraft's behavior and put it to use in DCS. I did all of the things that he said to do for both and it worked very well. The whole thing about not using brakes for takeoff, and just full throttle with hard rudder. Worked like a charm. For all of the folks who have a hard time and have shelved these two planes, try this guy's advice. It was pretty easy to take off and land using his input. Everything....manifold pressure at .9 - 1.2. I never knew and it works great. The video in question instantaneously made my experience with both planes a whole lot more pleasant. So if you are one of those "Man I can't take off worth a darn in this plane" guys.....watch the video and listen to everything the man says. Thanks so much for this guys
  20. Wow...thx for the explanations guys. So the short of this is, I have to learn to function around this?
  21. I have been flying the P-51 from day one. I'm not a technical geek, nor do I spend 20 hours a week in a virtual cockpit. I just enjoy flying. And over the course of the years that I have been with DCS, I've picked up a lot of information and learned a lot about flying. Not nearly as much as I have seen others here but I get a little better every time I fly. My question is: I know that the P-51 has different performance standards at different altitudes. So when I am climbing, or even fighting between 15-18,000 feet. I have noticed that the plane itself does not perform all that well. My manifiold pressure can get a little hard to maintain and the plane does not react as it should to power settings. At some point, I'll hit a magic altitude and everything goes right back to normal and the plane acts great. What is the cause of this? And......how did pilots make up for this when fighting. The enemy must have known that this was a limitation of the P-51 and taken advantage of it. I try to avoid that space when I'm fighting. But I always inevitably end up there at some point during a fight. I'm not ace material by any means. But I manage to kill more often than not. But I do so by just barely managing, and flying by the seat of my pants at times. And I dread when I get dragged into that altitude bracket because it makes everything that much harder to manage.
  22. Nothing like a negative post to bring out the geeks who have nothing else to do with their lives. Anyway......Yeah...this thing is hardly worth the time. And 4 hours is planty of time on it. I have flown Xplane, FSX, and even Lockon, I have sat with pilots in planes and seen how the plane reacts. This P51 flies like a 172. As far as the controls....how do you even know your air speed??? The Horizen is waaay off. I have it all leveled out in the plane and I'm climbing when I do the outside view. You cannot see or identify (without scrolling all over the damn cockpit with multiple buttons) any of your controls. The view options are horrible. If there is a way to adjust the joystic...like everything else in this thing it either doesn't work or they've hid it to the point that you just don't want to mess with it. It's a shame because visually...this is a great game. It would have a lot of potential. But as usual, DCS saw fit to overcomplicate it to the point of utter uselessness.
  23. Yeah...I'm kind of feeling like I just wasted $40. This thing is pretty user unfriendly. You guys have no servers because this sim is not fun at all. Who want's to play against other people when you spend most of your time trying to deal with the terrible setup? DCS (as usual) has decided that the more garbage they try and pack into this thing....the more challenging it is, hence....fun I guess? And no....it's not like really flying a P51. Not at all. You stall or lose control of the craft almost instantly.....constantly. I had a friend come over who actually refurbishes WWII aircraft. And of course...he flys them. He though this thing was just wrong...all the way around....just wrong. Meanwhile...the drone flying against you is doing 45 and 90% climbs all over the place and doesn't even lose air speed. You'd think they'd equal that out. You cannot assign buttons in any usable fashion, the cockpit views and controls are just rediculous. People shelf this thing within a few flight hours...I'm sure of that......and, I'll be following their lead. Wow....... Oh...and the tutorials....really? I mean really? C'mon. $40 dollars and 4 hours I'll never get back.
